Xara is a very cool program, I have thought about using it, but I miss the Mesh Fill to much to use it exclusively. If you would like to do a Xara Totorial, that would be very cool. E-mail me if you have any questions, about what we are trying to do with this.
I think we can just let it be with, Now use IconWorkshop, IconDeveloper, or whatever to conver to a Icon. Of course it would be nice if any hints as to how to make sure the Final Icon is nice and clean, would be nice.
Any 3D program would be cool aswell
OK looks like we got Treetog to do Photoshop, Would still love to get. Illustrator PSP Freehand Gimp Or any others
How about you Moshi? You could do one in InkScape?
On IRC today the Idea was brought up of making a nifty tutorial For making Icons. A lot of people use different Programs to make Icons, I would like to put together a Group of Tutorial showing how to make a Icon, with certain Criteria, in each of these programs. I am Volunteering to do the CorelDraw Tutorial. So here is the Criteria. 1) Must Be a folder 2) Must Show Transparency 3) Must show Gloss 4) Must Show Shadow</P
You get slightly better quality with Icons. because they have the lower resolutions included, and OD dose not have to resample them. However they are bigger in size and, Im not sure about this part, I would assume use a bit more memory. I perfer to use Icons, but Im a Icon Author. And the nice thing about Icons is you can use them in anything that takes ICO. Have fun with that.
I work at Stardock, and I did not even know about this, It is very cool. Good Job Niel.
I have thought about doing this myself, I have a Computer setup running Snapstream's BeyondTV, which has its own interface for all the Video portion, so I have not been rushed, You might try using one of the more minamulistic skins, or better yet Makeing a whole new interface with DX, that would probobly work best.
Very cool, one of those things you would never think of but Turns out to be A must have.
Orion update is in the works....
You can change the Default Directory in Iconpackager, at the moment I dont think you can with WB, I have brought up the Idea of a My Skins folder, A Central folder for storage of all your skins, at least for stardock apps. Perferably the location of the folder would be customizeable. looks like we might be able to impliment it. However there is no eta on it since we just finished a major release.
As the local TechTV addict, this morning I noticed that tonight on the Screensavers they are going to be featureing Lightstep as the download of the day. If you get TechTV you just might want to check it out. http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/shownotes/story/0,24330,3608079,00.html [Message Edited]
I’m running short on time tonight, I need to get home and Pack, I’m off to California Tomorrow night, and have of course left everything to the last moment. This is a quickie but every little bet is helping me get the hand eye coordination with the Tablet working.
While I have owned a Wacom Graphire Tablet for years, I have not been one to use it very often. Now, working at Stardock, I am going to need to do a lot more concept drawings, Luckily I am actually getting paid to do these things, and I have a nice big Wacom Tablet sitting on my desk. So I am using this as a nice excuse to Learn to use the tablet, and set aside the pencils. I have decided to set aside 15 or 20 minute a day to do a little sketch, I’m thinking 600x600. Curr
Thats what I pulled.
Thsee Icons were not a Iconpack... Just a bunch of ripped Icons in a zip file. Without permission also. They have been pulled. Sorry that dose not help your question. But if you have the Icons you can make a pack for yourself. However 99% of those Icons are already on your system in Shell32.dll if you have Windows XP.
It says they require Iconpackager 2.5 is this not correct? mormegil runs off to check.... [Message Edited]
Also, make sure it is a file, not a shoutcut, or Folder. They have there one Change Icon Button and dont need The Iconpackager tab.
Make sure you have it resampleing with a good methed, I like Lanczos3 If it still looks bad it might be becuse the image is to complicated. That is one thing people like about OD is they can have very complex images, that dose not always work when you get down to 48x48 and below. Also make sure you are using xp style Icons. (Assuming you are running XP)
HA, This is about the same as I felt when I got my first Mac, then I stoped useing it and that fealing went away.
OD can start to slow down if you are using alot of 256 Png's becuse it has to do more thinking. Your better off sticking to 1 Icon file that has 128x128 in it. This is just my expiriance with it however.
Xp is not a huge upgrade if you have 2000, but for 9x I cant imagan any reason, other then Hardware not to upgrade to XP.
You can take the Desktop Icon out of just about any Icon pack and use it, as well.
