Right-I'm talking about the choices that require an intelligence minimum of 5, maximum of 10, in addition to a charisma minimum of 5, maximum of 10. Take an average candidate with 5 or 6 charisma, give him a speech writer, now he's at 15/16 charisma and is no longer in the valid range for those "balanced" choices, regardless of his intelligence. Unless it's base charisma, but it wouldn't appear to be done that way. At any rate, getting said issues to appear, not to menti

Why is there a maximum charisma (or intelligence, but charisma is more relevant) for some responses? I can see why there's a minimum, but by hiring a speech writer, you increase your charisma (which is non-zero for most candidates) by 10, which brings it to more than the maximum of 10 that dictates the availability of a specific response. I mean, it's not like your candidate is suddenly -too- charismatic to be able to think of the response in question, are they?

If you cram 30 engines in your ships, it won't make much difference, but if you run low or no-engine designs, particularly with tiny/small hulls where you don't have -room-

I understand it's random, but there is no sense in a spy stealing laser I if you already have laser II (for example). There should be a built in check that prevents a spy from stealing an "obsolete" tech. My two cents[/quote] Tech score hel

@p22 1) The AI should (presumably) not drop as many spies on your planets anymore, as they don't have to simply to gain intelligence on you (that'd be in the civ spying screen). 2) Play a race that gets CE tech and build them, ffs. THEN nullify the spy. And the 20% morale bonus isn't -bad-, either.

I've been using speed +2 for ages. I always get morale +10, as it's only one point. If I have extra points, I'm likely to get it +15 or +20. Typically I'll get luck +25 for another one point. The rest is dependent on what race I'm playing, and how many customization points

The difference in all-x builds from DA to TA is about the difference from DL to DA...maybe a bit more. Focus still consumes 25% of what's funded, but only gives 20% of what's funded (or 80% of what focused production used to be) to the focused type. Although that's the primary difference, it's also worth noting that 1) factories and labs in general provide less production and 2) more to the point the maintenance is somewhat drastically increased-which is essentially what happe

I have autoupdates set to notify & ask, and it hasn't had any activity in at least ten days. Went to softwarepatch and got WInstaller 4.5 (just in case I didn't have it already; last one I remember was 3.xx). Only entries in \Drengin.net are GCII and TPM. And, yeah...still doesn't work. Tried safe mode, just because. Installer complains that the installer service can't be accessed, and says this might happen in safe mode. Tried manua

Ah, the joys of 768kbit internet. Though I suppose I'm fortunate it's not 56k. Installer downloaded from Filefront does the same exact thing. Once, I'm willing to accept a corrupt file. Twice, I'm willing to accept a corrupt source. Three times... I guess it's support time, then.

I don't recall having the ships actually disappear-but something funky is supposed to happen because it sets all your abilities to zero (including logistics-so you can't have fleets until you fix it). You might try saving, exiting, and reloading (try saving it as a -different- game, though).

That's the Plague. Go into your tech tree and research Plague Cure (it'll be at the bottom), then sell it to the AIs that aren't murdering you for gazillions of cash. Or was it Disease?

My kingdom for a working edit button. I may be wrong on the SDC comment-it doesn't appear to work -now-...but I remember it working in the past.

1) You can play the DL campaign from DA and you will have access to improvement-level spies (as opposed to DL's civ-level spying). So, yes. 2) I don't recall seeing any asteroid belts in the DL campaign, even when run from DA-and it would very much surprise me to see them, as the terrain for each mission is essentially predetermined (with the possible exception of bonus tiles on a per-planet basis). So, no.

"well over twice" You ARE aware that you need a 4:1 ratio of your influence to theirs for it to flip, correct? Also, are you positive that the planet(s) in question do not have a re-education center on them? I remember an influence bug regarding save/load, but I'm not sure if that applies in this case, nor have I played DL in long enough that I wouldn't trust my memory on it either.

I'm not going to argue with you, Willy. *gives you a rowboat instead* The AoE isn't meaningless, but you are correct that I neglected to mention that the influence is much, much less at the edge of the AoE than it is at or near the center. Unfortunately, I have no one to blame that oversight on.
