I wasn't objecting either-but even the Terrans have drastically different graphics for the buildings, in TA. While the Research Lab (no longer called Basic) is IIRC moderately taller than the Xeno Lab, the Xeno Lab is, IMHO, much more impressive-as it should be. It would be nice if that could be fixed for DA and DL, though. Seems simple enough.
While we are on the subject of old non bugs:- I think the image for basic lab and xeno lab should be swapped around. The basic lab looks like an upgraded xeno lab clearly these are the wrong way around?
I've always thought that was a little odd. As for TA, that's a different issue entirely. Most if not all improvements have redone graphics for TA. To be perfectly honest, the labs look nothing like their DA coun

The registry does not exist like normal files do. Start-->Run: Type "regedit" (without quotes). Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar. Modify Version to 1.7. Then run SDC and update DA. Rebooting is actually not necessary, but can be done if you'd like. Alternatively, http://files.filefront.com/Keyreg/;9530968;/fileinfo.html will do the job for you on any Windows version 98 or newer. While I haven't verified that it works w

How do you not have a colony rush in your sandbox games? Sorry, can't help but be curious. Seems you'd need at least a couple.
I would actually support the Fortification tree starting AFTER Starbase Conquest Strategy (or the appropriate EOL tech for starbase modules I support dropping the Fortification techs entirely and move the modules to the Weapon/Defense techs. EDIT: Note: This is almost entirely with regard to DA, as I have not yet become fully enamored with TA, as well as the fact that many DA strategies will have their place in TA. - I've been playing the Thalans almost exclusively in DA (haven't settled on a favorite yet in TA, but it's looking more and more like everyone's favorite will probably be the Terrans, though that's a topic for another discussion), and while I can remember what colonizing was like without Super Hive from

1) AFAIK, they're still working on having the AI treat the Terror Stars with the appropriate response. It is, after all, still in beta. 2) Silverbeacher is incorrect; planet hopping does indeed work to "extend" your movement points in DA (1.80g for the curious). I've always wondered why exactly this is, but then again it's nice to be able to relaunch a ship in the appropriate direction without using up a move point. My guess is it's probably a pain in the ass to fix that, code-wise.

Agreed. In DA (and DL), it was easy enough to "rush" Starbase Fort III relatively early so you could have 30/30/30 5/5/5 or 30/30/30 15/15/15 starbases (since the defensive modules that Fort III provides require the preceding one, but the weapons ones do not) for only 7 or 10 constructors. Early game, when everyone's running around with 3-5 attack fighters with no defense, that's just obscene. Even Starbase Fort II would give you 10/10/10 5/5/5 or 10/10/10 15/15/15 under the same circumstance
Lol. I've seen that bug too. For example the Yor were pursuing a cultural victory by researching 'Doom rays'.
Well if they want to call it that, I'm not going to argue with them. ...at least until I get better weapons/defense!

@Wyndstar Pertaining to the Thalans not building over previous buildings, that's a problem common to the AI of all races, as you well know. I (we?) can only hope it gets fixed at some point, but I'm not sure how much coding that would take. Incidentally, that would (or at least should) also fix the loophole of setting a build queue and giving the planet to the AI so they do the building.

This is why we can't have nice things. Only those who have pre-ordered will have access to the editor. Barring a Stardock leak (which I find highly unlikely), the only way for pirates to get a hold of it is for A) one of the pre-orderers to give it to them, or B) for them to get it off of a pre-orderer's computer. The latter can be done one of two ways-either you know someone who uses your computer and ganks it off of there, or someone drops a trojan on you and goes from there. <b

How about this? http://files.filefront.com/Keyreg/;9530968;/fileinfo.html You can open it with Notepad/Wordpad by dragging and dropping it or by right clicking and selecting open with/edit (whichever one you have there), to verify it's clean-which it is. Feel free to run it through however many virus scanners you feel is necessary. It's basically plaintext. When you double click it, it will apply the registry change for you, so you don't have to worry about mucking t

Also shows up in TA 0.96b. There are plenty of values it works fine for, but it appears that when it has a resultant value of X.00, it considers it to be the same as (X-1).99, and therefore rounds it down. Though, obviously, I haven't tested every conceivable value.

I. Really like that idea. I can see why the current system doesn't have that capability (or, at least, I don't -think- it does), but I can also see how it could be expanded as such. That said, I'm not saying it would be easy, either-just worthwhile.

Being able to change the super ability seems exploitable; try the Yor (with their +20 miniaturization, mostly-not that their ability is bad) with Super Breeder, for instance. I have to admit I'm toying with the idea of testing the Thalans with a different homestar...they may have a nice homeworld, but there are times I wish I had a (virtually) guaranteed second world only a couple of moves away. Not that I've played in the MV yet, though. Changing alignment is all fine

30 industry & 40% racial bonus = 30 x 1.4 = 42 (which, as we all know, is the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything). I think I figured out why they could never find the question to that... I'm getting 41. First off, the extreme colonization technologies do not influence the amount of research that is done on a planet; if you colonize a planet with only one level of the appropriate colonization technology or invade one without any such tech, your research will be at its full value. Secondly, the values in the Summary screen from the Colony Management viewer will not change; this is base production only. Thirdly, this may be obvious, but researching barren colonization technologie

Well, I find it interesting that the premade races start out with certain techs, but not the prerequisite tech (most obvious case is space militarization without galactic warfare, but there are others), whereas a custom race cannot do the same; if you want a tech, you have to have all of the prereq techs first. Actually, most obvious case would be stellar cartography without xeno research. While there are certainly some races that you can't do better with by making a custom, I'
Once knowledge exists it seems to have a way of propagating itself .
If I'm playing the Yor
You're playing the Yor. Don't try to tell me Loyalty is still bugged-seems to work well enough in the latest DA, though I haven't tested it extensively in TA. Again, it's not the end-all, be-all, but it's still significant. How about a check box for preserving backstory a la victory conditions? Your points on the AI are valid, though I personally don't see much of a problem with it, relating to this is

@Zenicetus Then maybe you should get some espionage on that AI, hmm? ;) Valid point, though. I DO like the idea of upgrading my chips for cheaper, however...even if I have to take them back to a planet to do so.
How are other people feeling about the money issue? Lowering costs 1% doesn't seem like much. A lot of complaining about the economic issues in the game. How is it now? I am not going to start playing the beta if I spend all my time worrying about money. Regardless I will start playing when it comes out of beta.
I'm not positive, but I believe ship maintenance was in the realm of 10% of original cost.

AI won't give me crap for Enhanced Miniaturization, even with all diplo techs+diplo translators vs. a diplo penaltied-race. It won't even give me 1bc for it. Neither will any of the minors. AI doesn't value warp bubble tech highly enough. I've managed to buy it off of the Terrans for ~80-90bc per level, AFTER trading them all of my diplo techs (actually, it doesn't seem to make much of a difference when all they want for it is <100bc). It also doesn't pay much for it, either, but I'

@Wyndstar My parade is not rained on. :) It was, after all, a bug that got me into that mess...and a bug that got me out. Keep in mind, this was a no tech trading game, I had very little tech researched when the production bug that caused all the problems cropped up, and could not build ships. So I couldn't trade for tech, and I just about couldn't invade for it, either. I don't even think I had planetary invasion yet-this was back when I played slow-but I could be wrong
