The download links have been restored on the Resources page with the exception of the link for the WinCustomize Browser. We need to do a code update to fix that link. Should be able to get the update put in place tomorrow. But if you need a download link you can visit https://www.stardock.com/support.asp , enter your email address and one will be sent to you if you have a WinCustomize subscription.
T-Man
Yet another example of how Stardock lets their people put their "lives" ahead of us. My only hope is when the Drengin overlords come they take T-Man first I know them personally and trust me, I won't be the first. But I know who will be.
Looks a couple things were not happy over the weeked. I wasn't here on the weekend to see this first hand so I'm not sure what the cause was. Will have to investigate and see if we can figure it out.
Well it seems most people are definitely seeing a performance increase so that is definitely good news to celebrate. But we still see those occasionaly pauses as well. We are not sure if thats database or code related. We will continue to look into that as well.
We had one of our servers die off last week. That server had WinCustomize and our Image server on it. We moved it to a new server and in doing so the IP address changed for www.wincustomize.com and images.stardock.com. To me it sounds like you DNS has not updated to use the new ip address. One thing to try is open a command prompt and enter the following command. ipconfig /flushdns This may flush the DNS of the old
The database server upgrade is now completed. The process was pretty smooth and painless so that was a big sigh of relief. And so far it appears that site is definitely running better with the new DB Server in place. There is still always room for improvement but this was definitely a big step in the right direction. :D Let us know how things are running for you. Does the site feel faster, slower, the same? We are interested in hearing from you how every
THe IRC and News server will not be affected so they will still be up and running if you need your fix
On Wednesday June 7th, 2006 3:00am EST we will be taking most webservers off line wile we upgrade our primary database system. The outage is planned to last a minimum of 3 hours and it is possible that it could last longer. Sites and services that will be affected are: desktopgadgets.com forums.stardock.com (all forum servers) galciv1.com galciv2.com joeuser.com politicalmachine.com poweruser.tv societygame.com totalgaming.net wincustomize.com
Ok I have made a couple of adjustments with the new server configuration that has fixed some of the Skin/Discussion Browser scripts. I don't know for sure if it solved any of these particular issues but its worth a retry. Let me know if anyone is still having any problems (with SDC or WC Browser, I don't want to hear about your personal problems ) <img src="
You may have a rogue WinCustomize cookie that is causing the problem. Try this link to delete your WC Cookies: https://www.wincustomize.com/killcookies.aspx
Ok, downloads for the WC/SDC Browser are working again. Sorry for the delay (was on a field trip yesterday with my daughter).
Earlier today we put WC up on a test server as a temporary solution. I have spent the better part of tonight getting WC up and running on a more reliable web server. So we should be pretty close to full power. I do know that the jobs for calculating daily stats are not currently configured so please give us a day or two to get those jobs configured properly. If there is anything out of the ordinary that is not working properly please post the issue(s) here
Well, we have knocked down some of the database issues with the personal pages. So I'm going to leave the personal pages on all night and see how things go. The personal pages them selves still need some tweaking to make them faster but we believe we made a good dent in the problems that were causing some of our databse bottle necks. So cross your fingers and lets hope everything runs well.
In the 1 hour I was here ( between 5 am - 6 am although hard to tell because the time posting seems to be CST time as opposed to the usual EST) the site took forever to load before I even signed in. Once signed in...I was logged out of WC at least twice...maybe more ..i lost count. Usually after posting in forum I recieved the odd looking page with the enlarged font wit
Status Update: We are still continuing to isolate all the issues with the personal pages. We have made progress but there is still more to do. The plan for tomorrow (Thursday) is that we are going to run the personal pages most the working day, starting from about 9:00am EST. However, we will not be turning all the pages on at once. Initially we will have the home page tab turned on, after some time we will turn the gallery tab on and so forth. We want
In just a couple minutes we will be turning the personal pages on again for a about an hour while we do some more tests.
We have identified some problematic areas in our code and we are working on them to refine them. I suspect that we will do another test later today to test the changes we make. This may be displaying my ignorance in these matters, but why not put the personal pages on a different server? THe problem is not with th
Well, it appears that our database servers performed much better while the personal pages were off. Not only was the database happier but we saw a significant increase in traffic to WinCustomize because there were less problems. So its good that we have seen our traffic increase. But its bad because it means there is a problem with the personal pages that is causing significant database congestion. So here is the plan. Later today (around 3:00) we plan on
Interesting. How would you compare it to microsofts Live.com? I'm finding that Pageflakes is just as good as live.com. They both have some pros and cons and both are in development and have some bugs here and there. live.com seems to run faster but Pageflakes feels easier to use. Page flakes offers tabbed pages which is re
If you are interested in desktop customization, which I suspect you are, then you will want to check out Pageflakes.com . Pageflakes is a personalized start page with email checking, movie finder, RSS feeds and various other features. In other words, think of it as a webpage where users can easily add gadgets (or flakes as they call them) to a page making new

We are working standardizing WinCustomize's forums. What I mean by that is that with all the Stardock websites we are working on one code base that will run all our forums. Several of our sites (forums.galciv2.com, forums.stardock.com, forums.societygame.com, etc) already use the same forum code. But current WinCustomize has it's own custom flavor. So we are getting close to completing this transormation over at https://forums
Well the last week or two has been tough. Our systems have been just unhappy. Both from a DB point of view and a coding point of view. We've spend the last few days trying to find the problems but really haven't pinpointed anything specfically. But we did clean up quite of few things which seems to have helped. So far today things seem to be running more smoothly. <im
Roman probably uploaded his images to WinCustomize.
In regards to the account information invalid error we are looking at a couple possible isues. We are currently experiencing some database issues which is causing intermittent connection problems to the database. So when Stardock Central is trying to validate your account information it is unable to do so and thus returns this error. Trying again a minute later may work. You are attempting to download the Beta of GalCiv2. However, there is n
