If you are receiving an I/O error when trying to install from the Retail CD you should contact support from our publisher, Strategy First, at http://www.strategyfirst.com/en/support/. But as a temporary work around to this problem you can use Stardock Central to download GalCiv.

LordZero, "Stardock Central", is used both for Subscription services like Drengin.net and ObejctDesktop.net as well as stand alone products like Galactic Civilizations. If you are registering Galactic Civilizations you should be using the Serial Number from the CD and your email address (which most likely should be the same email address as your Stardock.net account). If you are having difficulties registering send me an email to [email protected] with the information you are

I think I starting to talk to myself now but I think I may know what was going on. If you had done a download and archive using a slightly older build of SDC, its likely that when you restored the archive that the xml files were not properly copied into the installed directory. At least thats my theory at the moment. This problem should be fixed now but only with new archives. ~SDC~

So, the gc1.xml did not exist but SDC was showing that a previoius version of GalCiv was installed? Is that correct? Or did SDC show that GalCiv was not installed? Also, from the best you can remember, what were the previous steps you had done to install/update GalCiv? ~SDC~

If anyone else sees the problem where SDC wants to re-install the entire 85MB for an Update can you please first look in your sdcentral\installed folder and see if the file gc1.xml exists. Thanks. ~SDC~

Ok, we have isolated a problem in the GalCiv code where it sends some invalid data which is causing your scores to not show up. I should be able to touch up the database to fix the invalid data which will make your scores show up. And the next build of GalCiv will have the the fix for future submissions. I don't know when the next build will be but I suspect it will be very soon. ~SDC~

No. I didn't say we cut off support. You just do not get updates to our software or new software. Beside, how many companies out there provide support for games after a year anyway? So if your account expires on 3/26/2004 and we come out with a new update for GalCiv on 3/27/2004 then you will not be able to download that update unless you renew your subscription. We will have a process for renewing your subscription but I do not know what the price break will be for that yet. <B

David, rbloom, Mark, No I am not seeing any of your scores in the database. We are using http to send the data. We don't think its a network issue but we are not ruling anything out yet since we are not sure where the problem is occuring yet. Anyone have a packet sniffer? If you do, turn it out before you submit your score and see if anything tries to get through. ~SDC~

Lobos, I have a temp table in my database where I am storing the submission data before its parsed into the highscore table. This piece does not care about what the data is. It just saves it. Your submission is not getting there. But to answer your question, no, it does not reference your email. It goes by playername and serial number. I received your saved game and I was able to submit it successfully. So we are really not sure why the submission is not getting to us.<br

Actually, that link was not available for Drengin.net subscribers. So I have just added it. So if you use the lookup serial number feature in SDC or go to http://www.stardock.com/support.asp and enter your email address the link will be sent to you. ~SDC~
