Well, from your description about one part of the disc looked shallow, that happens when that part of the disk is empty of data. CD and DVD burners start from the inside ring and go outward. After you uninstalled DVDFab, did you reburn the DVD or stick it back in. If not, reinstall Nero, uninstall DVDFab, and reburn it. Try it. If not, I would just recommend using Alcohol 120% or something of the equivalent such as PowerISO. Cheers. -Alex

Yes, I don't think that they are all that great but there were only 611 downloads and it appears that only 2-4 people rated. That's just their opinion, if you like it, you may consider it good but I don't recommend running around saying that it's superior to others.
