If fighters and flak simply can't kill the bombers efficiently, then it doesn't matter if Scramble Bombers is nerfed slightly. A carrier with all fighters or an equal cost in flak should beat a unsupported carrier with all bombers. If the fighters/flak are losing, the counter system is broken and something needs to be looked at.
I think you are on to something here. I think the crux of the problem is that fighters can be effectively countered by flak, and also b

Tested Dunov with magnetize vs. Skirantra. My idea was to close with the Skirantra and magnetize it when the bombers were coming in for a pass to hit me. The problem was, the Skirantra kited me to death - I could never really get in range to get a good magnetize off. For my tests - Skirantra 5, all others 0.
thus in my opinion just as star bases made sins more mindless and less strategic...
I hear this from people quite a bit (you, Krath, etc). I have a serious bone of contention with this, because it is incorrect. You guys are confusing strategy with tactics. Starbases absolutely provide for more strategy. I rather enjoy this, because I am more of a strategy player, and when I bought this game I was led to believe that it was a strategy gam
I believe he means the planets populate his nav map as if he had visited them--not just the one targeted by the mission but all the planets owned by the player taking the mission. That is a handy advantage--especially with the cannons in play--a Vasari could hit any planet at will with his gun them phase in...whether scouted or not.
Now I see what you are talking about - thanks.

lbgsloan, I guess I'm not really sure what you are talking about. The mission screen itself will not "show" a planet, i.e. I cannot bring up a planet and look at the grav well and see all the ships moving around and the defenses. Now, if you are saying a planet will appear on the list of planets to target, well yeah. But that's not exactly "scouting" the planet! Your term is misleading. This is probably not a bug at all, i.e. it is intended behavior. If

If it is extremely difficult to counter the skirantras, then it probably needs to be toned down a little bit (either that, or other caps need buffs). Maybe Deceiver's idea about having the antimatter usage start a little higher and then get lower as the thing levels? Or was that cooldown?
How is it suppose to work ? Build the starbase in an enemy system to bombard the planet ? I think there are less complicated ways to achieve that...
Actually, I like the ability. I have used it with a number of different strats. One strat is that I can go in with my fleet and clear a planet, then move on while building a starbase in the grav well. My fleet isn't tied down for a few minutes bombing the planet - the sb will take care of it. There a

Well if you are sure about buildings, I won't argue with you unless someone else says different. But I'm over 99% sure it used to work on ALL ships (i.e. cruisers), but now it doesn't. Can anyone confirm whether it used to work on non-capships? Don't just tell me what the docs or tooltips say - I know what that stuff says. What I'm saying is, I'm 99% sure that it used to work on stuff outside what the tooltips and docs said. It used to work on all type of ships.<

Today while playing Advent, the Trancencia meteor strike ability would not autotcast on enemy structures (in this case, a starbase). It was in range, because I could manually cast it and hit it, no problem. Can anyone else confirm? Since I don't believe this is intended behavior, I'm labeling it a bug.

Unless I'm just dreaming, I could have sworn that the antimatter recharger would pretty much recharge the antimatter on anything (the description always said "capships," but that description was wrong). Can anyone tell me I'm wrong on this? At any rate, was playing Advent today, and now the thing only works on capships. Has there been a stealth nerf?
It may be worthless in large battles because it quickly depletes the Radiance of its health and shields, and too powerful in medium-small ones by stacking with the guardians.
Well the question is, would it be any less worthless in large battles than it is now, and would it be any more powerful in meduim-small ones by stacking with guardians than it is now? The intention of the devs was obviously for the Radiance to take ALL damage from enemies within range.

Not an exploit. Whenever I take the pirate base, I leave as many of the defenses up as possible. The other day I managed to take it without losing any ships, and without taking out any of the defenses. I used a level 8 or so Marza backed by 2 high-level Dunovs, both of which had flux field and could spam shield restore. I snuck a colony frig in through the defenses (not a colonizer capship) and colonized it.

There's been lot of talk about buffing caps for months. In particular, one thing I hear a lot about (besides gauss rail gun) is animosity. At any rate, I was playing Advent today, and had an idea for reworking animosity. Currently it forces you to target the Radiance, but a human player can just retarget something else - that's the problem. My idea is to have a certain percentage of the damage being done to all friendly ships/structures within a bubble surrounding th

I myself conducted two more tests as well, and am here to report. Test1: 1 Radiance mana burn vs. 1 Skirantra SB/all bombers. Radiance was slaughtered, but this wasn't because of the buffed SC. It would have lost regardless. Test2: 12 disciples (3000 credits, more than 50 supply) vs. 1 Skirantra SB/all bombers. 12 disciples were maneuvered to the exact spot the Skirantra was jumping to, in order to give them the best chance to kill it. Skirantra won, al

Thing is Volt, you can't be expected to field multiple caps, flak, repair, blah blah, just to take out a skirantra, or the thing IS unbalanced. Both sides have to expend roughly the same amount of resources. I have started my analysis with 1 cap vs. 1 cap. From there I will proceed "even Steven," i.e. if the vasari is given dual skirantras, I will use the same amount of resources to go dual halcyon, single halcyon plus frigs, single halcyon plus repair, etc. Post bac
While not necessarily a bug, I was wondering if you are supposed to be able to phase jump between friendly phase stabilizers if you have a Vasari ally?
Nope. Might have been nice to have as a pact in Diplomacy!
Actually i ran into a guy who had some luck with a level 4 Kortul. Disruptive strikes kept the am on 2 of my skirantras too low to cast anymore bombers (though theyd already launched several).
Well we already know vasari vs. vasari is balanced... how could it not be :-)

70 Replies 107,526 Views

Okay, did a couple of baseline tests just to get started. 1 Halcyon vs. 1 Skirantra. Both carriers constantly kited, both stayed on opposite sides of the grav well. 1st test: Skirantra SB/all bombers. Halcyon ADA/all fighters. Skirantra wins. 2nd test: Skirantra SB/all bombers. Halcyon ADA/all bombers. Skirantra wins. Volt, I guess you can test Halcyon with TP (and whatever else you want to test). You can test all fight
And if you agree that skirantra is being abused in this patch, than you must agree that the is a good reason behind that abuse- i.e. it is too powerful.
Sure. Actually, I wrote a reply to some of your points yesterday, and essentially agreed with them. But alas, the reply just disappeared. The last thing I want to see is the skirantra become the next "old patch's halcyon," or vasari the next "old patch's advent." I guess the questions are 1) wh
