First off, your opponent got a head start on you with units due to LRFs lower tier....So instead you need to invest in a few other ship types and upgrades to make them tougher. AS TEC you should definitely invest in Hoshis to go along with your HC (or even a flak swarm)....Secondly you should invest in armor and health upgrades for them, again to help keep them alive. Unupgraded, unsupported HC are not difficult to defeat, upgraded, supported HC are something else entirely.

Actually, i believe LRFs are the only frigate that actually does counter HC, as they are anti heavy armor, so you were doomed from the start there.
Nope. LRF does anti-medium. HC is a counter to LRF if you look at damage types and armor. But I don't think it's such a counter when you factor in supply cost, time it takes to tech it and build it and churn it out, yadda yadda. Someone can just swarm you with the inferior unit that is actually counte

Got it - you're dividing the heal by the cooldown. Another issue. Can someone comment on this? I've played 2 games recently against lrm spammers. One was a vasari - a "pro-ish" type I see online quite a bit. I won that. The other was against a TEC - no winner, we just called it. I played TEC both games. At any rate, all both of them did was build nothing but lrm. The vasari built nothing but assailants all game. The TEC built not
For what its worth, we've fixed a bug in the damage code that was screwing things like Illums up (anything with beam damage where the damage duration was equal to or greater than the update period of the damage system).
Interesting news!
bump for another budding vasari player. I dont find there HCS to be all that useful. Am i in the wrong here? I hoard assailants and flak.
Assailants were always the "bread and butter" unit of the vasari faction.
LOL I was wondering why I had to actually replace ships while playing with the Vasari last night... that certainly didn't happen with the Advent.
I know, right!
And Lord I almost freaked out when I got my first warning about one of my Caps losing it's shields. Who knew!
Exactly... you've been playing Advent! Who knew! Just finished another 5v5. All the 5's were grouped again (I KNOW, EXTREMELY RARE, I'm just reporting it as it happens). I was on flank again. So that's 3 5v5's today. 2 were groups of 5 - I was flank. 1 was groups of 4, with suicides - I was suicide. If I play any more tonight, I will report more results.

Not selective memory - I've actually catalogued this stuff. In fact, I came here to say that I just got out of yet ANOTHER 5v5. Each side had 4 as a group, and 1 suicide. I was suicide, as always. I had a 20% chance for suicide, and 80% chance to be non-suicide, but I got suicide. I have replays, saved games, etc. I really can count the number of times on 1 hand that I was not suicide, and not on a flank.

It's definitely a difficult nut to crack. I beat my head against it many times. If you can get an SB up and keep it up as you apparently did (I never could - halcyon bombers raped), then I think mass flak would be your best bet. Usually not good in the face of mass disciples, but your SB puts the hurt on those disciples if you make sure to keep your flak near it, and they are probably your best bet against the inevitable illums. Second thing to try might be transport
they call it RANDOM, because its RANDOM
They call it random because it is SUPPOSED to be random. But is it random in actuality? I can promise you my placement is far from random. Now, is this some fluke, akin to winning the lottery or getting struck by lightning? Hard for me to believe, if it is. I find IrrationalFear's story quite interesting. Just got out of a game 5 minutes ago. 5v5. All the 5's were grouped together.
It costs less to build and upgrade a Cap ship to level 4 than it does to upgrade a starbase to full health and weapons.
Can't compare the two. Fully upgraded SB blows away a capship. Having said that, I'm not for being able to purchase more levels with capships. It would be a nerf to Advent. Now, Advent needs nerfing, but they need the correct kind of nerf. Mass Transcendence/caps is one of the things that makes them unique. We don'
Since Seekers, Disciples, and Illums are clearly OP (and Halcyons are a bit, but at least they are tolerable), you can expect them to be nerfed/fixed (in case of Illum) in the next patch.
LOL. First question. who told you there would ever be another patch? Second question. Even if there is, who told you these things would be nerfed?
So... I played a 4p locked FFA with random race (ended up Vasari) and was immediatly rushed by the nearby

You want to get to the next level with Advent? You've come to the right place. As Obi-wan said in Revenge of the Sith, "Advent are our specialty." Here's a secret for you. You really don't need to build anything but one unit - disciples. That's it. Don't need labs, don't need research, don't need anything. Just need a good econ, and a row of frig factories to pump as many disciples as you can pump. That will win you the game. Not just ag

Volt, I think superkleenex is commenting less on the original post, and more on the mini-story I related just above with the dual halcyons, seeker/discple, then illums (the story where you said I should have had repair). Yeah, we figured a skirantra, if micro'd out the ying yang, might could beat a halcyon, but he is commenting on the entire ball of wax (seeker/disciple/dual halcyon/illums). I don't think vasari can beat that. The best I've done is set up a starbase, but t

Out of hundreds of games online, I can count the number of times on one hand that I've wound up in eco position or non-flank/non-suicide position. Every other time, it has been flank, or suicide spot. I find this strange. It isn't related to my position in the game room, because that changes every time. It isn't related to whatever screenname/smurfname I happen to use, because I've had a thousand of those. Near as I can tell, it is related to my actual account na
And did you not read my description? Assailants are great for ff late game and come out earlier than Illuminators.
The problem is, a rush isn't a late game situation, and assailants are useless against advent early game.

Just to throw in my experience with culture - the other day I decided to try culture out in a practice (test) game. My idea wasn't economic, it was defensive. Enemy comes to bomb my cultured planets? Fine, let him. He can't take them, or so I thought. Chose advent for early culture, dropped 2 civs, researched culture, plopped down a couple culture transmitters right off the bat. Took first roid, plopped down another culture transmitter. I wanted my
Deceiver, your story is impressive, but I doubt that this doesnt happen often enough to justify the marauder' s existance.
I'm not Deceiver, but I'll chime in here. It doesn't happen enough on ICO MP - that much is obvious. But it can absolutely happen in any game not played like ICO MP (SP, long LAN games with friends, etc). I'm not suggesting the ship doesn't need some love. I'm just saying it's a decent ship in theory, it just can't be put t

I seriously doubt it would have even caused me to break even in the scenario I just described, much less put me in the green (notice by the way that the attacking Advent doesn't even need repai
