There is no secret hidden mystery to this game.. its simple and straight-forward. to win you must better your opponent. how you go about it is your business.
Actually, how you go about it isn't your business. I don't care if you were Tyr, Cykur, RagingAmish, JJ, whoever, if you just made nothing but capships in the old version of the game, you'd lose. If you didn't build carriers in the "carrier spam" patch, you'd lose (I know, because I actually made it a p
Was it Siddy?
It wasn't him - I know his tags, or at least some of them.
So kharma, were you that newb easy random in one of my games last night that couldnt kill a small fleet with sova in them?
No, I wasn't in your game, because you are one of the many people on my ignore list, and I don't play with or against any people on my ignore list. I've smurfed you before, and I don't like to play with you. I know your tags - Elrosh and {SB}=>Elrosh - and I won't play with anyone who has those tags. So unless you have other tag
Being a relatively new player still finding my feet in AI games, I've always thought caps to be an essential part of the fleet and I usually have around 4. But maybe it's the recent balancing that's made it seem like a no brainer for me.
This used to be a classic online multiplayer mistake (building lots of capships). If you saw someone pumping out capships, you instantly knew they were a total newbie. The last patch s
Okay, to state the obvious, caps got buffed in the last patch. Before I say anything else, I want to say that I think that was a GOOD thing. At any rate, when I first read the patch notes some months back, I was very pleasantly surprised, but didn't think it would affect gameplay mechanic much, if at all. I thought it would be the same old gameplay, with some nice little much needed buffs to caps. Then slowly but surely, I started seeing online play evolve to the new
Yae to buff scramble bombers. (Can you add options for microphasing aura and replicate forces as well?) Yae to buff Evacuator colonize.
How would it be disappointing? You just proved that there is a way to counter it!
It is disappointing when you play the game since the day it was released and you still can't figure out how to counter something (or, it takes 2 years to figure it out). Again I will reference Starcraft (just because everybody knows what that game is). I never had that problem with Starcraft.
Are you looking for an excuse to quit again?
Actually,
As far as the Kol and GRG goes, what about actually considering what a rail gun is SUPPOSED to do, and what depictions of it in science fiction do? From what I gather, the warhead punches straight through whatever is in its way and keeps on going. Thus, I propose that the GRG damage all ships in a single line. As far as the hull on battleships, did you know that a level 1 sova has more hull than a level 2 kortul? I know because I just finished testing these two ships
But the Skirantra doesn't have to go in range to fight.
Well sure it does, depending on the situation. If a sova is bombing your roid, and all you have is a couple skirantras, they have to go in range to fight. Then they will die, and you will lose the game. But if he has an unmoving TEC starbase, no, the skirantras don't have to go in range.
SB is considered weak, not because it is always weak, but late game (which is when most people g
At any rate, might I suggest repeating the above tests with a Skirantra? That was the original thing questioned here so it might be wise to do so. Level one, Sova gets DMP while the Skirantra gets SB. Level two, Sova gets HSC while the Skirantra gets RC.
The skirantra is just so weak, I don't see it having any chance against a sova. I mean, 2 dropped like flies to 1 sova. And the thing I didn't mention is, the sova had no shields and only 2/3rds of its hi
Did you not read Zombies post at all? He did say that he had figured out a way for a Kortul. And it likely is a lot in how you use it...
Yes I did read his post, and I said that I would test this out today. I kept my promise. RESULTS ARE IN. Point blank map was selected, TEC vs. Vasari, sova vs. kortul. In all tests, sova held all missle batteries and bombers in dock until Kortul was i
Fine. I don't have a chance to test this today, because I am busy. But tomorrow I will get online and build a kortul the first game I play. I am guaranteed to be rushed by either sova or halcyon, so I will test this ship out against the bombers which are guaranteed to come my way. When this doesn't work, I will be right back here posting and telling you all that you are wrong. It is fine by me if you guys want to say the skirantra rocks, the kortul rocks, and t
In older versions of the game it was an extremely bad idea to build multiple capships early in the game. In this newer patch, carrier capships got buffed, so people build several early game because in a rush situation the vasari have few options for countering them, and people are exploiting balance issues. Using "quickstart" with all speed settings set to fast (the "standard" for playing multiplayer online) you can build 2 capships right off the bat. Drop a single lab, re
Other support caps such as progen and skiratra heal themselves with their heal ability so why not the dunov.
The vasari Marauder can also heal itself with the phase out hull ability. I don't think it would be out of line for the dunov to heal itself.
I find it hard to believe that a kortul will stand up to a carrier with bombers, both ships being at the same level, because I tested it against advent halcyons with another player (granted I went for jam weapons, which seems to be the intuitive, sensible thing to do against a carrier). Halycons and sovas are different animals.
They aren't too different when it comes to their bombers. Yeah, halcyon get more bombers, but they are weaker. Sova gets
I am not here to debate or argue anything. We can do that on other threads, if you want. I am here because someone mentioned having Deceiver put adjusting capships to a vote. Since someone else mentioned it, and since others (namely you) chimed in with their suggestions on capships, I chimed in with mine. You don't have to like, agree, or accept my recommendation. I do ask, however, that you let me suggest it without making a big deal about it. I mean, yo
TheRezonator, you are misinterpreting what it means to "balance by race" vs. "balance by unit." JuleTron is right, you are wrong (with all due respect). "Balance by race" means vasari gets a moving starbase but no torpedo cruiser, where as TEC gets a stationary starbase, but it blows up, plus they get a torpedo cruiser. It means vasari gets returning armada, and TEC gets pervasive economy. It means the races have different techs, different units, and different abilitie
Well if we are talking capships, the skirantra is a poor ship that needs some help. People rave over the heal ability, but it really isn't that great, and it really isn't that useful in most situations because your ships get focus fired anyway so it's not gonna keep frigs alive in that situation. If we are to accept its ultra-low dps, its ultra-low toughness (strange for a ship that has to wade into the thick of it to use its only okay ability) and ultra crappy scramble bombers
He builds one sova (all bombers) and rushes. I build one Kortul and rush. A level 1 Kortul can't stand up to a level 1 Sova. However, a simple upgrade to level 2 makes the Kortul a Sova killer. Disruptive Strike basically neuters his attacking ability to deploy missle platforms and power surge negates any affect from his bomber and weapons. Even upgrading the Sova to Level 2 or 3 has no affect on the outcome after this point. It's main strength is the missle platforms.
Zombie, fine. I'm not disputing anything you say. One question: 2 homeworlds, one roid in between. He builds sova and rushes. What's the capship of choice for vasari to counter, if any? Thanks.
I agree with zombie here. From the sound of it, agent did not play skillfully at all and wants to blame something being overpowered for his loss.
Greyfox, if you read, you will see that I have not claimed that the sova is "overpowered."
Just in reply #313 I count 8 violations that would get his post deleted
Sure, but you are taking one post out of context of all posts. Would be the same as taking one boy's punch out of context in a schoolyard fight. Why did he throw that punch? What did the other boy do to him in the events leading up to that punch? I think if you review all my posts made here, in the context of all the posts made to me by people on the other side, you will s
Why didn't you use fleet support? Capitals are support ships, they help fleets, especially the Skirantra. Why did you not have fleet support?
There are answers to this question, but we are getting sidetracked by addressing it. The point is capships - only capships. Not what I could have done differently or how I could have played better. Is it the intention of the devs that the vasari have NO cap that can go toe to toe with a sova? If so, fine,
During the beta people used mines offensively all the time. And even after beta it was still possible with advent - the mines could take out STRUCTURES, so all you had to do was go in and lay mines around his structures and BOOM! I must say, I actually liked using this ability, and was disappointed when they took it out, but it probably was OP or unbalanced. In general mines are too expensive right now to be worth using. They really need to lower the cost, we are pla
