Dorian, I play multiplayer all the time, and I'm not gonna just blow smoke up your ass. Turrets actually have some viability now. Some people are raving over the TEC turret, and that's fine, but if you like to play vasari, I promise you their turret upgrade kicks ass. It stops all hull, shield, and antimatter regeneration for a LONG time (something like 10 minutes?). It actually has a pretty major effect on something like a capship or an invading vasari starb

Here's the thing, Volt_Cruelerz. All these people jerk off to ion bolt, high hull points, blah blah. Fine, but I build an akkan for one thing and one thing only - colonize. You might say "wow, you mean the free extractors are that good?" I don't know, and I don't care. Listen to me say it again: <span style=
Deciever I would also like to see mines cost reduced. They are to expensive imo. What ya think?

Devs did make mines cheaper in the last patch, thanks to the previous PSCF. Uber hit it right on the head, mines are underused because they are a risky investment

I'd agree, cost isn't the issue for mines. The problem is that they're too easy to avoid, and that's BEFORE we consider z-axis abuse.
Actually, I agree that mines are too
While good micro makes your fleets fight better its NOT what is going to win you the game. Its only a facet of the larger picture. What really makes or breakes your game are the decisions you have to do at strategic level. How much do i invest into economy? What kind of tactic am i going to use? How much do i spend in research and when and why? Am i going for colonizing and booming or do i pursue a more agressive and direct approach´?
Some will disagree, but, in o
ive beaten cykur before. my cap strat doesnt call for ONLY caps.. that is simply stupid. but it doesnt call for frigates.
Well if you can beat Cykur, I can't beat you no matter what units you choose to build. So you'll have to play someone else I guess.
So you used one Sova - without backup - and expect it to beat two Halcyons?
Expect? No. I am simply replying to some dude's proposition that a sova can be parked next to two halcyons, backed by some cobalts, and win. I already tried it because I got halcyon rushed the other day, and the only thing I had nearby was a sova and some cobalts. I got creamed. I don't "expect," I'm just saying if some dude says that will win, I'm saying it won't.<
Okay, I tested 1 dunov against 1 halcyon. I played tec, I let the AI play advent. Dunov got first level of magnetize. Halcyon got first level of adept drone anime. TEST 1. Donov configured with 1 fighter, halcyon all bombers. I tried letting the figher wing fly around, then I tried keeping the fighter wing stationary near an optimum point where the bombers were making passes. The stationary approached seemed to be working better, so I kept it that w
Seriosly, with the same budget from the making of a second cap, you could park a entire squad of Cobalts/LRF/Garda behind the Halycons and hurt them badly along with your Sova/Kol/Akkan since the Halycons can not fire their main weapons from their rear. Any damage from bombers to your cap will be healed with a Repair bay.
Researching and building repair, garda, and lrf in a rush situation, and having it all ready by the time he gets there? What are you smoking?<
there's this amazing player called Asian Unicorn
I haven't seen him.
'Clickfest' RTSes are the norm (well-suited for the impatient and ADDers, perhaps) but it wasn't always that way.
I have lots of ideas. I won't divulge all of them here, but just a sampling. One thing I will implement is that you will have a set of build instructions for the particular map you are playing on before the game even starts. The instructions will be entered into your "build script" via a map editor sort of screen - you will be able to lay
we can 1v1 sometime. seeing as you couldnt even handle sovas i doubt anything is impossible in that sort of game..
Okay, PM me a day and a time and a screenname. We will do 1v1 and post the results. You make all capships and nothing else. If it turns up you are a pro the caliber of a JJ or a Cykur (please tell us your skill level NOW), then I retract this acceptance of your challenge, because I am not up to tha
So easy with Tec. Single sova, Spam cobalts. Done.
Nope. Tried just before I made this post. I parked my sova right next to both halcyons as they bombed my home planet, and let missle platforms spam away. I had heavy strikecraft too. My strikecraft were set to all fighters. He had all bombers on both halcyons. The fighers did nothing to his bombers. My sova got slaughtered.
This might be the only circumstance whe
Are you really going to sit here and tell me i have ABSOLUTELY no choice in the way i choose to play this game?
No.
i can tell you right now if i wanted to win with all caps i could.
Old patch? Against a decent player? Nope (and probably not with the new patch either).
this isnt just because of the new patch. its all about evolution. period.
LOL.
Okay, you are guaranteed to get dual halcyon rushed in any online multiplayer game. How do you beat it? I don't want theorycraft, and I also don't want answers from SP people. I want non-theorycraft answers from MP people who actually beat dual halcyon on a regular basis. Please give your answers for: Vasari and TEC. Thanks.
but when i start out how many ships should i make - i read in the forums i should make at least 3 or four scouts - but how many LF should i make to kill the enemies in the nearby planets?
You should at least max out your opening slots, i.e. build until you can't build anymore. Once your economy gets good enough, you will want to continuously "fleet up" as funds permit.
Any suggestions on what hotkeys are a must-learn?
You should definately use the hotkeys on the left side of the keyboard (qwert, asdfg) for all the things they do. Don't just rote memorize them though. If you take care to examine, you will see that they are intuitively laid out in a system. Each key's position matches the position of a button on the screen you would click.
how come everyone says the egg is so powerful?
The nano-disassembler, and I guess level 6 drain planet. I used to be a big vasari player. But I was never orgasmic over the egg. Did I use it? Yes, but for 1 reason - colonization. I strongly believe in colonization. I used akkan (NOT marza) prebuff, because of colonization.
Actually, the reason you put fighters or bombers on hold position next to their target is that they don't have to waste time flying around making passes and runs. They just sit and shoot.
As for multiplayer being more tactics than strategy, I don't believe that can be helped short of making RTS games fundamentally differently.
This will be easier said than done, but I plan to create my own "fundamentally different" strategy game (yes I am an experienced software engineer). I've got lots of ideas on how to make the game mostly all about strategy, and have nothing to do with clickfests. Thing is, having no help and doing it all on my own, it w
Scramble bombers sucks because it will only give you a couple additional bombers. Picture late game when you have 20 transporters. You really want to spend antimatter to have a couple extra bombers? The other thing is, it competes with repair cloud for antimatter. This is why I choose microphasing aura every time I have to choose something beside repair cloud - it doesn't use any antimatter.
Oh, that dude, LOL. Yeah I've played him on more than a few occasions. Doesn't build anything but navigators for the first 45 minutes of the game. But gets a CRAZY eco up. Weirdly enough, you invade your fleet into his naked, fleetless, defenseless planets, and he just seems to pull defenses out of his ass.
Single player isn't a tactical clickfest (or, at least doesn't have to be) because you can turn the speed settings all the way down, and even pause the game. Online multiplayer is extreme tactical clickfest, degenerating the game from "realtime strategy" to "realtime tactical." People will only play on maxed-out speed settings, crowded rush maps, etc. I dislike this - I'd rather outsmart my opponent than outclick him or outspam him - but if I want to have any online compet

About the dunov self-targeting heal, there is another support ship that can self-target besides mothership and skirantra. The marauder can self-target phase out hull which boosts its shields. QUESTION: How does the TEC currently counter repulse? Cobalts cannot get in range of the iconuses (what's the plural on that? LOL). Can donov EMP blast outrange an iconus repulse? If not, should we ask for a small range buff so that it can? As for the marauder, the
