Now that I think about it... Another problem with countering an illum spam with navigators is having enough frigate factories in the right place at the right time to build enough to out number the illums. Build them in the same gravity well and kiss them goodbye, build them too far away and you are constantly out gunned as your ships have to take time to fly in.
I stand by my original point. If the other player cant stand a lrf rush (lf or scout), then you are playing someone who doesnt know the game. Why use advance tactics or strategy when the simple ones will work against them. If they counter then you counter them and the fun begins.
I guess I really don't understand your point as it relates to what I was saying. Are you saying I should have hammered out assailants before I saw what his fleet was? Note that I
One big thing with flak is placement is very important. They fire from all sides so you need to place flak in the middle to use all gunports or keep moving your flak around
I don't keep moving my flak around, but I DO stick my flak right in the middle of all his illums. I do that every time. My flak still get mauled (Vasari flak that is. I can't speak to TEC flak, but I hear it counters illums better).

Plus, who am I supposed to "report" Pawelo to, his mother? Theoretic

Well I definately believe empire tree jumping should be voted on, it has bugged me and everyone else from day one. It often times makes the empire tree totally useless. Z-axis exploits seem an almost no-brainer to add to the vote as well. My main point was that things should be thrashed out pretty heavily first in debate (probably on other threads so as not to clutter your fine thread here) before submitting to a vote. I definately think deliverence engine, tec plane
If it weren't for the fact that you chose to badmouth the people that did not kick you or these other people out of a game instead of the person that did
If you bothered to read, I criticized both. And your clanmates were criticized because they were the ones who popped in and asked to "boot some newbs" so they could join. I am pleasantly surprised that you are well-outnumbered on this thread. Thank God.

I don't need to hear any more from you. Sure, I understand that you view the game as an inherently selfish activity (and I have
You should have went massive flak if all he was spamming was ilums.
See below.
I don't think Vasari flaks are what they used to be.
I agree with this 100%. I actually did turn out a huge number of flak - basically as many as I could. It really wasn't a match for the illums. I knew ahead of time it wouldn't be, because this is an old story (illum spam is all I ever see). But what else am I supposed to do? I mix
Why can't you just put the lab on your hw? It will support 4, you'd have to upgrade logistics to get 3 anyway.
You can have 3 labs at HW without upgrade if you scrap the capship factory, which many people do.
And how much is making labs "that much easier" to sack?
Easy. The more labs you are forced to maintain, the more vulnerable you are. Theoretically you'd prefer to have to maintain 0 (then no techs can be taken out).
Thing about the overseer is, unlike the other races, overseer does not require pre-requisite research (like shield or repair research) that actually makes it the CHEAPEST support ship to obtain as it requires only 1 more lab and a handful more resources to research.
Requiring one more lab is a fairly big detriment. For one thing, you gotta find space for that lab somewhere. If you are rushing overseers faster than a TEC can get hoshis, as you proposed you c

If I want to get into an online MP game I don't have the luxury of just hosting my own game and waiting a minute or less for it to fill up. If I want to play MP I have to jump into the game that everyone is trying to get filled up, in hopes that it will actually fill up sometime in the next hour. Reality trumps theorycraft every time. Look, boot people if you want just so you can play with your buddies or whatever. I'll just add your name to the list of people I don'
Illum spam on its own won't win you games. Smart players can and will beat it, though it certainly is the deadliest of all forms of spam.
I dunno. In my last loss vs. a pro type the other day, all he did was spam illums, period, besides a small fleet of siege frigs. The replay showed that I expanded quicker than he did, and had more planets. I even had a line of 5 trade ports. I scouted him, knew he was spamming illums. As vasari I have fe
If you're 2 or 3 jumps from an enemy homeworld, it may already be too late to start unit spamming by the time your scouts get there.
I think this is the problem with the configuration of most online games. You are almost always a couple jumps away from someone. So if you try to use your head and play with thought and strategy, you often lose because the other guy just starts right up with his preprogrammed script (spam illums or whatever), and it takes a hel

1) Pick Advent. 2) Build 3 temple of hostilities, research illum. 3) Put finger on button for "build illum." Keep pressing that finger over and over and over and over again, as many times as you can, as fast as you can. 4) Do #3 above better, faster, and more times than everyone else.
Now, what is interesting is to ask what would happen if the game were set to Small fleet sizes.
Now there's an idea. Number of players per mapsize was the first "solution" to pop into my head, but this seems as good if not a better approach. Will any hosts agree to try this option out once and see if anyone likes it? How about you, Sanchez? Can you convince a few of your teammates to give it a go, just for the hell of it?

I played in tons of online games and watched replays from tons more. It always seems the technology level never gets that high. You never see a lot of interesting late techs come out in a game. Are people really so happy with just scout spam, lf spam, lrf spam, illum spam, etc? Can we say BORING? When can we see some subverters or phase gates? Returning Armada? Antimatter rechargers? Superweapons? I'm not saying I've never seen something l

xSurrealx, I have always noticed exactly what you are talking about. I almost always see ships die to my phase missles with 0 shields left on them. The only time I can make a ship die with substantial shield remaining is if I use the "death egg" with the nano dissassembler a few times. The nano bomb does direct damage to the hull and bypasses shields. Once you use that weapon a few times you can finish a ship off with phase missles. But is it worth so many expens
OK so autocast is then only concerned with the fleets shields and not its own preservation??? Dang odd coding there!
The "concern for fleet's shields" is actually what you should be most concerned about. This is what makes this ship one of the best support caps in the game. Try it in a battle. Keep all of your other ships near the progen, watch their shields, and hit shield restore (MANUALLY) when needed. If you can master this and some other te
