Why on earth do you want a phase jump inhibitor ship? That makes no sense - there is already a phase jump inhibitor. You would not be adding anything to the game by creating a ship to do what a phase jump inhibitor already does. You might say "well the current phase jump inhibitor is useless," and I agree. But adding a new ship isn't the solution - fixing the phase jump inhibitor is.

I actually think I would have enjoyed a game built more around capships than frigs and cruisers. I'm talking every ship being a capship, with there being more capship types to choose from. But that's neither here nor there.

You are right in that cap ships (IMHO) aren't worth building. I always built the 1 free cap ship, and that was it for the game. If I ever lost it, I wouldn't rebuild it, because for the cost I could build regular frigs that as a group were more powerful.
I believe spams can be countered by research. Fish out all the stats on the spammed unit, fish out all the stats on your viable counters, do the calculations and come up with a micro procedure to efficiently destroy your opponent in as little time and as little resources as you can manage.
One problem would be the problem I outlined recently in my scouting thread: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?forumid=402&aid=301424 That is, before you counter,
I would like to discuss a replay from a game I just played, if you like....I would like to know if someone thinks there really was a chance to defeat the Vasari player after orange drops.
First off, this is an unbalanced scenario to begin with, because you had multiple players in a ffa (two of whom left the game), and you were initially cooperating with the red vasari. The game is not balanced for such a scenario, it is balanced for 1v1. How could you possibly balance a

If you are going Dark Armada, this is what you need to do: 1) Get both levels of dark armada research, not just the first. 2) Build as many phase stabilizers as you can. I always had a minimum of 5 going, but 10+ is best. 3) Keep researching fleet cap until you hit the max. That's it.

Hi, your input is perfectly welcome. I just want to make sure my point isn't lost. I'm not complaining about scouting units in this game. I'm addressing a much broader question, which is whether or not scouting is viable in a fast-paced high pressure RTS considering that time spent in effective scouting is time lost taking over resources, building structures and units, doing research, etc. Thanks.

As in most other strategy games I have played, I see a lot of emphasis put on scouting in SoSE. Whether it is countering some kind of spam ("you should have scouted and built the appropriate counter"), defeating siege frigates ("you should have scouted and known he was massing them") or whatever, I hear a lot about scouting. Now, I love scouting in theory. It's great, fine, and dandy. But in practice, can it really be done in a competitive game against a good, pressuring
Who actually uses siege frigates?
Humans use them, not just the AI.
I know the AI does raids of 10 of them, and it is scary. But 3 hangar defenses with fighters can gut any serious Siege frigate raid.
3 hanger defenses will not dent a siege frigate raid - you will lose your home planet, even after buying bomb shelters. I have the video to prove it (I even played Advent, with teched up hangers for more fighters), and these are

Boot every player out that doesn't meet some requirement and wait to play all afternoon?
If I were you, I'd strictly play against either 1) your equally "skilled" teammates, or 2) clans. There probably isn't much reason for you to play against anyone else, is there?
I think Frogboy himself said that So there was clearly an intent here to develop the need for combined arms.
I stand corrected, thanks. And by the way, I didn't say that combined arms didn't exist in real life - of course it does. What I tried to say was that spam also exists in real life, and combined arms isn't always best to beat spam.

I agree with Frogboy that there is winning, and winning at all costs. It is amazing that a developer (I assume he is a developer) was perceptive enough to know about these sorts of differences in players. I have played many games "competitively" in my life, including Starcraft, etc. but I have never played to "win at all costs," and neither have any of my friends or game mates. I agree with Aspartic that there is a problem when one group collides with the other group. Unfortunately,

I am hereby assuming the mantle of Grand Muff, but you won't regret it, I promise. I understand that everyone isn't on board with this decision - I accept that, that's politics. But I assure you, I have the communication skills, the intelligence, the education, the drive, the motivation, and the leadership skills to lead the GE clan in this critical area. I would like to petition for the creation of a 4th political position - The Grand MUFF. Unlike The Grand MOFF, the job of The Grand MUFF would be to oversee the creation of a legion of concubines and courtesans to serve the higher-ups within the clan. The Grand MUFF would, of course, need to personally interview and inspect every single potential courtesan to make sure she is up to snuff as far as being able to serve the GE in this fundamental capacity. What's all this COMPLETE and TOTAL BS people keep saying about a "combined arms fleet" should be able to easily beat a spammed fleet of a single type? Why the hell should that be the case, and what real-world scenario is this supposed to simulate? In the real world, if your enemy is massing nothing but infantry men with rifles, You'd be smart to mass heavy machine gun emplacements, and just let those guys charge right in. Screw bombers, fighters, missles, helicopters, anything else.

Vasari have good phasing and nano technology, expensive ships, etc. Vasari and Advent would definately be more difficult to play correctly for a beginner. They require a more nuanced play style. Go TEC if you want an easier race to start out with, and once you get the hang of things you can always try another faction.

The problem really isn't retreat in and of itself. I welcome my enemy to retreat if he is attacking my planet - I don't want him there in the first place. The problem is in fact OTHER problems which meld or merge with retreat, making you think the problem is retreat when it is something else entirely. The first problem is if the enemy "retreats" further into your empire. The orignal idea of the game was to be able to hold strategic "chokepoints" with phase jump inhibitors, but they c

Spamming to a certain degree seems almost necessary in this game (and others too). Think about it. You can't afford to research all ship types at once. So when you research one type, the next most logical and cost-effective thing is to research upgrades for that ship type. Once this occurs, you have little choice but to build that ship type. Take vasari for instance. You drop one weapons lab and you can research the LRM frig. One or two more weapons labs and you can research phase

Why do you people think that the scuttling of vasari dark fleet ships for money needs to be nerfed? LOL! Come on, what is the prime reason for having money in the game? FOR SHIPS. Oh sure, money is needed for planetary infrastructure too, but why do you build planetary infrastructure in the first place? In the end, FOR SHIPS. Why do you build up your economy? FOR SHIPS. Sure, sure, I understand that research costs money too, but one researches to increase the powe
