1) Are you saying that flak frigs had little to no effect on the strikecraft? That's the obvious counter. Are you saying its ineffective? 2) The passive aura from the carrier cap doesn't apply to strikecraft.
When the AI (or perhaps other human opponents for those who play online) engage in mine-spamming it can significantly impair mobility in a star system if done extensively enough.
Sure - that's the point. The reason for a minesweeper is to reduce micromanagement and tedium, not reduce the ability to place mines (even to the point of significantly impairing mobility).
The simple and elegent solution is a mine sweeper.
Yes I agree, but you left out "obvious" with "simple" and "elegant." In other words, this idea has already been proposed numerous times. This is one in a series of "creative brainstorming sessions" where I am throwing out other ideas. Since you bring it up, I would prefer that your minesweeper have the ability to detect mines on its own, without aid from a scout. This would eliminate micromanag
Bad idea i think. In essence it means i pay for deploying mines, with the added danger of increasing my enemies income when he salvages them.
Yes, that is the point in fact. I agree that it MIGHT be a bad idea when it comes down to it. If what you say above cannot be balanced correctly, there is a danger that mines would be obsolete and un-used, because all you do is feed your enemy with them. This would be bad. However, it is POSS
I see no where where it implies I must tow the company line.
Nobody ever said or implied that you should tow the company line. I certainly do not tow any company's line - never have, never will. I even said that after the final product is released, flame the company big time if it sucks. But it's unfair and premature to blast a product that is still in beta and still in development.

21 Replies 3,290 Views

I agree. If you don't want to participate in a beta, its kind of silly to jump into one, and then complain about the quality of it after you've jumped in. Now, if somebody wants to let the developers have it after they've released a final product - fine by me. But this is beta - do you know what that means?

I thought this deserved its own thread. Quoting agent250x:
...maybe even get resources for destroying mines instead of pay to destroy them.
This should sound interesting for the people who hate mines and mine spamming. Agent250x is proposing the possibility of getting resources from destroying mines (I'd say that you would actually be salvaging the mines, not destroying them). The reason this should be interesting for mine haters is, it off

New hardcore technologies, and new hardcore units. TECHNOLOGY IDEAS: Cloaking technology. Could be applied to ships as well as structures. Could differ among the races, to the point that some races might not even have it. Vasari already have phasing technology, including a "microphasing aura" for strikecraft, and an "in-grav well phase jump" ability for their subverters. What about a "MACROphasing aura" - a phase aura that applies to large ships (frig

First the background. Like many others, I posted a suggestion a while back on minesweeping. The gist of the suggestion was having a "minesweeper" (whether it be a scout, or new minesweeper unit) automatically run around sweeping mines in a system, with the KICKER that this activity costs you 1) antimatter, and 2) time. The time component would be the time it takes for the sweeper to replinish antimatter before doing another round of sweeping. The justifications for thi

It's useful if you have a carrier-heavy force and you end up being confronted with a flak-heavy force. Then you just want to dock your strikecraft and get the hell out - your enemy has you countered. Also can be used when you want to make a quick phase jump out of the system. Normally you have to wait for all your strikecraft to fly over and dock. But if you dock them while on your way to the phase lane, there is nothing left to dock once you arrive, and you can just g
Two equally skilled players at equally good starting positions, one picks a Sova, the other picks something else. The one that picks the Sova loses. A starbase should be a BASE too, you know? I mean, it has the word "base" in it. I'm talking multiple docking, repair, refuel, and reprovisioning stations, not to mention lots of hanger bays (which already exist, but maybe not enough?). Something which provides logistics slots, etc.

It's like, I don't care if it takes a week, month, or year to come out. I just want to know WHEN it comes out, because I don't like checking 10 times a day to see if it's there or not.

I had the same impression. The first time I built a starbase, I was like "That's the starbase?!" Also, yeah, it totally underperformed to my expectations. Actually, for some reason I was under the impression that starbases were something you really had to tech up to late game, and I thought it was going to cost 100,000 credits, and God knows how much metal and crystal. I thought it was going to take God knows how long to build while I protected the area with a fleet.

You asked if you will lose if you pick the Sova. The question means you think that ships win or lose games. They don't. The player wins or loses games. Give the best player in Sins the worst starting cap - whatever that cap is - and give the worst player in Sins the best starting cap, guess who wins? The best player wins no matter what his starting cap is. This isn't to say that there aren't better or worse ships in the game - maybe there are, maybe the

Does it work? I tested this with two starbases in two different enemy systems simultaneously (I transplanted the starbases into enemy territoriees in an attack). I purchased the assasult systems upgrade for 1 starbase, which supposedly featured "disintegrator arrays" for close range attacks, especially against structures. The other starbase, I just left alone. I did not notice any disintegrator array attack. I made sure that I was close range - in fact I even

I'd like to see a blacklist of clans who get their rocks off beating the living snot out of a casual group on multiplayer who have never even played together before. I mean, a minute into the game you get a coordinated attack from all clan members at once, while your "team" has barely even had time to introduce itself to one another. This sort of thing is almost always accompanied by a bunch of trash-talk as well, screaming "newb!" at you with a bunch of cursewords thrown in to bo
