My question, in regards to any defense turrets. Do people tend to place them on the outer edge of the building circle, or the inner edge, closest to the planet? I haven't really decided which i prefer. Normally I create an interlocking grid, just on the edge of where the outside phase lanes come into my choke planets.

Well, if everything orbits at the same pace, "Collisions" wouldn't be an issue... unless you have your ships in the way ;) but they should be smart enough to avoid sitting in the path of an oncoming structure... then again this would also be a good use of the Z axis :)

The issue i tend to run into with the defense platforms is the fact that ships always just swing around them and run to bombarding my planet. If everything was built "orbiting" then even things like trade ports, refineries, and research labs would still stay within the net of the defense platforms.

I was thinking... something that might make defense platforms more useful would to have them actually orbiting the planet. I know this would probably take up more system resources... but it would also make them more useful. Instead of being able to slip around the defenses, they're always moving, coming into and going out of your range. This could be done with the repair stations as well.

Thanks! That is what i was thinking, but wasn't positive. I figure if I have some sort of Flak frigate (or equivalent) to counter the enemies bombers/fighters... i can load up my own carriers with bombers.

My question is what targets are bombers better used against. From reading the descriptions, my thoughts are that bombers are for "bigger" targets... now does this mean Frigates/Cruisers/Capital Ships or Cruisers/Capital Ships or just Capital Ships? Fighters are only useful vs. bombers? I really think that the descriptions are vague.

My biggest issue with carriers is that you have to manually assign every carrier you build to select a squadron type. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I would really like to set carriers to default to bomber squadrons, without having to pick every single one.

Personally, I tend to keep a few different fleets around, instead of one fleet of all capital ships. Mostly I've been playing TEC. Standard fleet build. Starting(for planet rush) 1xKol Battleship 10xCobalt Light Frigate After a small group of planets is obtained, and defenses are in place at one or two choke points. 1xKol Battleship 1xAkkan Battlecruiser or Marza Dreadnaught 4xKodiak Heavy Cruiser 4xCielo Command Cruiser 4xHoshiko Robotics Cruiser 4x
