And I'd just like to say one thing, because wc3 wasn't as successful as sc, scII must be bad? That's some awesome logic. I didn't even realize the stupidity of the OP, just reread the post. And rereading my own, I did come off as hostile, I really did not mean to, just frustration with the topic, your example was fine, the anger wasn't even directed at you. It's just a habit to pick apart posts of the opposing opinion for ammunition, classic strawman if you will.
Haeso
I'm not angry, at anyone but the people who made the forum :P I don't mean to come off as hostile, just this discussion has been going on for the better part of my life, and it's the same thing over and over. I love TBS games, FF tactics is a good example of a game I've spent hundreds of hours on, because I love taking the time to make the perfect strategy, advance wars too, civ 3 was one I probably spent even a thousand hours on, it's just they're different styles of play, and I personally can'
Seems the forum lagged and it did go through, some parts of the second post will be repeats, sorry, shitty editing system won't allow me to put all of it in one and delete the other.
hmm, last post didn't go through. Anyway. What makes a real time strategy game real time. Hint: it's in the name. With that in mind, we recognize that a rts game is built around the overwhelm factor and speed, as well as how those two things work together. We should understand that quick thinking and a good apm are absolute requirements in a game that is designed to incorporate time. If that wasn't the case, it would be a turn based game where you take turns at the sam
No, he shouldn't win. He failed to develop a required skill set. The true strategist should stick to games that favor him, as the faster should stick to ones that favor him. Turn based games favor the armchair general (Or admiral, in sins case.) where he can take his time and decide on the truly optimal use of his turn. Real time favors the reflexes and speed, because it's... Real time. Now what I'm going to say might shock you - but if you want a game not decided by APM, don't play a
Proph has taken the time and money to set up a real ladder with a hosted server and backend, he'll be working to configure it as well as likely add a forum for it. 1v1 and team ladders will be available. Details and URL will be sometime tonight once he has finished.
Best is not subjective at all, favorite would be. I'll say it again, what you think, what I think, they don't matter. It's what the companies think, and I'll bet you any game developer would rather have the level of success starcraft had than their own. These are companies, there is a set definition of best. The most money made. It's not about what you enjoy the most, it's about one thing. How much they made, I can't explain that any simpler. That's all there is to it. The only thing yo
@HaesoLong rant, but I totally agree. From what I've seen, modding SAVED WC3. Most ppl I know (granted, it's just a small subset of the WC3 population) bought WC3 JUST to play DOTA. They never touched campaign and played only a handful of melee games before never going back to them again.WC3 editor is amazing.
I've been doing it ever since scII was announced and the blizzard hate bandwagon started up in earnest. I can't take the time or effort to seriously respond t
Seems hate blizzard bandwagon is full swing on these forums already. Will no internet forum be free of the mindless anti conformity zombies? Starcraft was good, whether or not you like it has no bearing here. It was successful. I don't care, blizzard doesn't care, the 10+ million people that WILL buy scII don't care what you think, or what you like. We care about what we like. I can honestly say, if they gave starcraft the wc3 editor, I'd buy it for 50$. And you know what? As much as I
https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/308856 Link to the thread with all the fixed starting locations for two teams.
In order for these maps to work you must have them as a .galaxy in the C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy if someone could post the path for vista so I could edit it in, please do so. Going to go through all of the maps and fix the starting locations for teams. I'll post them in order. Should be done in an hour or so. Uploading to mediafire now, they'll all be
If there's a particular map you want the start locations fixed for, ask me in a PM or I can make a post, I've already done it for all the maps that don't have it.
the 20v40 would have been closer to about 11-12 lrms left rather than less, you're right. I think it would be closer but the micro was off on my part, regardless, the tests are a lot better and much closer. The poor micro of the jav player in the other tests must have been it, glad it's more on par at least. And astax, if he'd rushed you instead of going econ you wouldn't have had a sizeable force in my homeworld at all, drex would have lost to lament in the long run without help, and I
Illums still are better in a cost-cost, not as skewed as before though, 20v40 almost dead even 20v34 6-8 illums left. I'll be working on a more accurate way of judging the cost of each ship, metal clearly isn't worth the full 500/100, lets go with 275 for now? Crystal too, while you do buy some you don't buy all of it. I'd say maybe 375-400/100 for crystal. The tests just feel so off, I don't normally have a 20v34, it's usually something like 15v20-25. It must be the cost-cos
dream, do you have ventrilo? Or drex, either one. I'll test it with one of you if you want, it may have been bad micro on the lrm player part in my test. I still think the unmicroed test shows a lot though ~ placing the Illums right in front of the javs and letting them pick targets on their own just molested the javs. I'm in the lobby right now, someone who can micro get on so I can get hopefully accurate data. We'll use a test map with infinite resources I'll give ya a link
it can, but with the side banks, lrm micro becomes suicide. We can test it between us if you think micro will play a bigger role, but I doubt it. We did one test where there was no micro and one test where there was 10-9 respectively. Could have been poor micro on the lrm player's part, but I can't see it changing how drastically warped the values are right now. Also keep in mind that at lower numbers the higher survivability of the illum comes into play. When it becomes possible to fly a focuse
You're right though drex, it's a little bigger advantage than cost-cost, but my point was that it's so far skewed that it doesn't matter right now. I'm gonna do a couple other strategies to try and beat illums, I have one that works so far but I'll need more testing on.
Haeso,Try that test again with 33-34 LRM vs 20 illum... Thats a true cost-for-cost. Regardless, illums *should* win since their a higher technology unit, IMO. Just not by a large margin. Test how badly LRM beats assailant cost-for-cost . This is also not taking two things into consideration: You get LRM faster, how many extra LRM can ya spam before the fight? At least a few... To get Illums, you pay for a more expensive research AND need an extra lab. How many LRM can ya build for that? S
0 upgrades lrm 30 illum 20 7 dead illums 30 dead lrm. 30 flak 20 illum 8 flak left 0 illum left. counter unit cost to cost, no longer a counter unit, just a slightly better against unit. I'll test the TEC/Vasari carriers against illums another night as they are the only counters to illums left at the vasari/TEC disposal on all but very large maps that allow you to HC rush.
We would have won if my teammate hadn't made a mistake, you were outplayed by me. You want to come up with excuses why you couldn't take me 1v1 then, go for it, but I was beating you quite easily. I wasn't using any strategy that you couldn't use. But keep trying, it's amusing how you insult me and paraphrase poorly to try and hide the fact that you played worse.
You went vasari 1.03 and I went tec 1.03, and you're complaining? if you're so good you should know how it works, and it stacked on it's own (Auto cast had a chance to stack it). That's not my fault. I've said it should be nerfed, they decided not to. Again, not my fault. I used an effective strategy and you didn't, I would have beat you but had to withdraw because of 2v1. You're judging me as a "person" and accusing me of dodging because I don't like starving? Whatever man, grow up. Talk to me
Didn't you lose like 3 times in a row to X already?I don't think random scrubs should talk trash when they only have a boatload of losses to their name.Sorry
One clan match to date that we lost because of a mistake one of my allies made, one that we would have easily won otherwise. If you try and argue that let me first point out A: Your odd man out was dead 1v1 essentially had you not been able to help him it would have been gg. B: 1v1 I was beating you. C: 1v1 Proph had
Everything is "counterable" that's not the point, it's how much it costs to counter it, the correct counter unit to a spam shouldn't be beat on a 1-1 cost ratio or anywhere near it. As far as playing you, I'll play any time I'm there, I was eating when you were on. Just got back from that to see you swearing and acting like a child on ICO. I've beaten astax quite a few times, we nearly beat you, only losing to one combination. Play me again if you want, you won't win. HuntingX
