Scorpiuscat, or any one else who have read the Honor Harrington series, can you tell me, how the missile pod thing works, and how it changed the shape of the battles in the Honor Harrington series. I have looked at wiki and found a lot of info, but what missile pods were, how they work and how they changed the shape of battles, was not will explained.

Quietly_Confident, please look at the following [link="http://www.projectrho.com/rocket/rocket3w.html"]Stealth doesn't work[/link] link. If you still have questions, post here again an we will try to answer them. For those of who play, Attack Vector Tactical, I have a question. The more I read the more it sounds like Coilguns, Katysha Launchers and Missiles are all one an the same system.Coilgun shells can have self guidance systems add, missiles can have an kintic kill (i.e. c

John Falkenberg what does RPV mean? I have seen UAV(unmanned aerial vehicle) but not RPV. Also food is a low cost item, but cost a lot to get into outer space. Therefore the only planets that would make it cheap to get food, to outer space would be the planets with orbital elevators. Does this mean that we would not need an assault shuttle then? Other then food, which on some level I would think that the capital ship could produces its self, is there any thing else that we coul

Does any one have an ideal what we could make on a planet, that we could not build in outer space? I mean, that it take a lot of energy, to get things off world, and therefore, any thing we get take off the planet needs to more important, or cost more the the energy we used to get it off the planet.

That a good question HeroicHerald, and I only have two ideals, of who it could be done. One is with wormholes, the other is to warp space or fold space so that you can move one point of space to other. Both ideals will require a lot of energy, and there for I can not see very small ships with FTL Drives. Wormholes as far as I under stand them are caused by gravity. How much gravity do we need, to have an wormhole is other question that needs to be answered. Lets say any planet
I believe that in order to accurately predict space warfare, we still have to look at the objectives. Nukes and other high-yield weaponry would cause too much damage to planets to be part of any serious invasion plan. Like homefleet said, the enemy will know your coming so you'd better be prepared to carve your way through their defenses and still be mobile enough to conquer the planet. That means large capital ships moving forward where any other vessel would be destro
They use momentum over warheads. The power of the shell comes from its mass * in velocity after firingNot momentum, kinetic energy: E=0.5*M*V^2 (V^2=V*V). Also we need to take into account what the force * time, when the shell hits, as if we increase time we decrease force, as M*V = F*T. Wrong, check your physics books again.
Thanks for pointing out that mistake on my part. Can you then give me the equations that allows me to get form the voltage an

I'm happy that people still have something more to add. I think we can figure out which person is right if we look at the problem form a logical point of view. First I can only see 4 types of weapons that we can use in outer space. Lasers: move at the speed of light, and therefore cannot be dodged by anything moving at no-relativistic speeds. It will always hit its target, unless it is poorly aimed. Lasers range, is limited by beam spread. Beam spread is were the las

It would be the Vasari, but it is not because of there HC, but because of there offensive Cruisers. The same level that you can get the Skarovas Enforcer, you can also get the Stilakus Subverter. Get one more military lab, and you can get the second special abilitie, Distortion Field. Distrortion Field is an area affect disable that works on all ships, but capital ships. Because most people use capital ships, as support, you can disable the main assult element of an fleet with a hand full of Sti

Good points,John Falkenberg, but I think that we should all ask are selfs is there any thing that a small, medium and large class of vessels can do, that can't be down be the class szie above it or below it. Lets say that we call the small size ship a destroyer, the medium size a cruisers and the large size a dreadnought. Then we would have the same class of ships as that of the RTS Sword of the Stars. Ihave noted, that the have asked the very same question on there Discussion tab, on there wiki

I would also note, that if you use HC spam, you already, have the tech level to build both the offensive and defensive Cruisers, which are a big part of the mid to end game fleets, no matter what ships, you have in them. Also you have the tech levels to upgrade your ships as well. There is a problem with using HC spam. The HC have the shortest range of all assult ships. The HC range, is small, while an capital ship is mid. and an LRM has the longest range. Hold down alt and move your m

Then I think the real question is how big, is a FTL drive? Because if it the size of a destroyer, then we should arm the probe so that it could do counter intelligence missions. But if the FTL drive is small enought to put into a small drone, then why not a missile, which could jump right next to an enemy ship, in its blind spot, or better yet, into the enemy ship.

I have seen Starship Operators too. It was a good anime, but was to short in my mind. I would like there to be an Starship Operators 2, but that what I thnik of that anime. Things I like from it, is that most planets only have one guard ship(or battleship) per planet. Made it fell as space warship come at a high price. But I don't like how there is only one class of ship, and there for the battles turn into who has the bigger fleet and/or best warships, instead of who has the best comb. arms fle

First question how could I rewrite the post so that it is not incohesive,Raging Amish ? Second, I like having more then one class of ships, myself. It adds a level of depth as it is then not a game, of who has the better upgraded and/ir larger fleet, but a game, of who can build the better comb. arms fleet, and use it. But the more I look at my "What do you guys, think space warfare should be like." post, and the more I read, on how space warfare should be like, form website, that have

What do you guy's think about the ice warship ideal? Where you use an asteroid to use as fuel, ammo, and a heat sink. The following, is from Atomic Rocket: Space Warship Design, about the ideal of an ice warship. " The simplified logistics suggests that "steam rockets" using nuclear light bulbs as the energy source and water as the reaction mass would be the system of choice for military and commercial spacecraft. Operations in deep space will create a different paradigm for operations

But does it not cost a lot of energy to get a shell up to relativistic speed? Also at that speed the shell acts like pure antimatter, right? So the shell will contain enought energy to penetrate a target and exit out the other end. And if the shell does this, it would still contain joules of damage, taht it failed to inflict on the target. So we would be waste energy to speed the round up, just to go into an enemy ship, and out the other end, while inflicting less damage, then if we made the rou
