Unlikely. The problem isn't your CPU or the game's engine, but the RAM limitation of a 32-bit application. It's been stated definitively that Sins will not be going over to 64-bit, so bigger fleets are right out.
Non sense... More capital ship on screen mean more GPU power needed... it become a RAM problem only if you increase the amount of type of capitalship... Since people usually don't
Bah. Gimp sucks. Can't edit the individual channels.
Not true, you can edit channels in gimp... You can make it using "mask" and when work is done, apply the change created on the mask to a channel... Of course, a lot of people decompose the channel to layer and work on the individual layer...
I tried a solution in another post that didn't work, it was decomposing the channels to RGBA
How about pics of the actual uv map (alt-7)? ... I also tried exporting the same model (With one of the multitextures) into sins via 3ds max, and it had shading errors, where parts of it would stay black, and the general mesh was a greyish color, with very little affect from the lighting. I'm not sure if this is a max script error, as it's the same model that was ingame beforehand with a few parts of the mesh

From a personal point of view, i know only two mod where every model look perfec
Well, it only show what the iron engine is able to make... if modeler use a lot of time to optimize their model and texture, the iron engine is really a great engine... Poly count is near the 50k limit but texture memory use is 3 time lower that for a PSI starbase... and texture detail is extreme due to heavy UV optimization... in fact, the only way to see all the detail is to play with the dev.exe where you can dissable the zoom limit... model is near the weapons hardpoint limit too
As far as I know, tangents are used in Sins for both bump effects AND lighting surfaces
You know very well :p
if your tangents are missing or are badly made there are obvious lighting artifacts on the model. Which in my opinion is a much uglier problem than a seam here or there.
No tangent is not a really a problem... if tangent is set on FALSE in the .mesh,
Yes, you can even avoid mirrored texture seams - you have to make a separate UV map for the tangents though. Basically, if you made your model by creating one half , UV mapping it, then symetrizing it, your UV maps will work fine for textures, but for tangents, in places where the symmetrical halves meet, you have to create a different UV island for that part, which is continuous across the surface. BUT, as I said, tangents don't care about t
I have been experimenting with the tangents without any luck or good results. As the major states, the tangents hate mirrored UVs and not only do they not like when the texture is on multiple sheets it also does not like it if its connected to another location of the sheet.
Well, the model that i work on now have 4 cl map, with very heavy optimized UV ( some UV piece are "mirrowed" more that 200 times ) and i don't have
Andromeda Ascendant... both the ship and the avatar are "sexy"... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViX-1h1nv74 Have model it long time ago for the now dead Andromeda mod for sins...
Well, i always use random map and i have never used Galaxy Forge... All i know is that everything who can be used in a map is found in the file GalaxyScenarioDef.galaxyScenarioDef ... so, maybe you need to replace the GalaxyScenarioDef.galaxyScenarioDef found in the Galaxy Forge directory by the one found in the gameinfo directory from the mod...
Problem with sins is that different mod don't always stack in the good way... so, you need the individual one and some "mod consolidation" who put more thing together... As for Uzii's sins plus, you can find several other planet mod who have everything from Uzii, sometime more... In fact, if you don't wish any new races but wish more planet, better explosion, etc... i advice you to use "Distant Star" that you can found at <a href="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.
Well, until there is a update for SGI DIP, maybe you can try "Stargate Races" ( https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/314779 ) who is updated to diplomacy 1.32...
Great, you have found one of the hidden hardcoded limit... maybe you can request that for Rebellion, Stardock increase the "friend" limit from 100 to 255 :p
