This thread is starting to feel like a countdown to a big UFC fight-night event.
Haeso is no expert.
:SURPRISED: What I called "the Haeso/innociv debate" (post #20) is heating up ! @ innociv : After reading most of your posts, for the past 1½ month, I would venture that War is more your expertise than Diplomacy. ;)
Another thread where we can follow the Haeso/innociv debate concerning the 1.04 Illuminators being OP/not-OP : fascinating for us, non-experts.
EDIT : Reply's content moved to post #5 on this thread : [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/308640"] Unfair A.I.[/link]
Illums aren't over powered.
You are possibly correct. It's the impression I got from Haeso's post #13, even though he did not use those precise words. It was my deductive interpretation of what I believed he seemed to imply concerning the Advent, as a corollary, when he declared : "Though as of now, I really feel advent to be too powerful. [...] I just went through a game earlier tonight, making nothing but illums to
@ HAESO : You may "derail [my] thread" as much as you want ! I originally wanted tips on how to use the Radiance's CB ability, but since I then mentioned the clanX/clanGE game-for-fun (in my post #2), I did open the possibility (as the thread's OP) of derailing the thread into a discussion of that replay. Consequently, no problem : as the OP, I'm quite happy with the derailment, since I really wanted to understand why X's use of Malice/CB (at the light blue plan
Thanks for the analysis, ASTAX (post #8) : it helps me to understand, a posteriori, what I did not perceive when I watched the replay. I particularly liked your comment on the "massive flak" : when I watched, I did not understand the deep value of so many flak units.
OK, Ron, I see what you mean. You MP heavy-weights sure have complicated relationships !
[1] Those clan X guys played like nubs ! [2] They were outproduced and only survived because the GE team didnt push on [3] the official position hasnt both GE and Clan X acknowledging a decision in a real clan match so far.
1. Well, I would not dare make such a statement concerning HuntingX ! You are perhaps in a better position than me to judge. 2. That, also, was my (very non-expert) perception of the game, based on the replay (see lin
Thanks a lot, Red Maw ! 1. Yep, you are right : my Radiance was not facing the LRMs when I clicked the CB casting button. It was not even close, offering its right flank to the LRM group. 2. I could have aimed CB at the enemy Kol, to follow your advice in selecting more worthwhile targets, but it would have taken time to turn my Radiance, and since all those LRMs were shooting at it, it was time for me to get the hell out of Dodge. I wanted to cast CB as a parting shot to get a
After playing TEC to death in SP, I am at last exploring the Advent. Yesterday evening, my Radiance capital ship reached a level where it had access to Cleansing Brilliance. By default, it was not set on autocast. I met a fleet of enemy TEC LRMs. I clicked on the CB ability, and my mouse cursor changed into an arrow. I am somewhat ashamed to ask : What do you do next with that CB arrow ? (I pulled the arrow towards the LRM pack and clicked, but not
"STUPID presets" in the thread's title : that will certainly impress Ironclad and Stardock officials ! They are going to immediately rush towards their offices, on a Sunday (no less), to comply with your wishes. Anything else, Lord Customer ?
Thanks for reminding me. I just pre-ordered Demigod, a few minutes ago, to get in the beta. /off topic
On XP ... it is within the Local Settings and Application Data hidden folders : C:\Documents and Settings\[your XP user name]\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\[put file in Record-SinglePlayer sub-folder]
Excerpt from reply #107, by adizmal :
[...T]his is a computer game, this is the year 2008 - most people expect the industry standard, plug and play online experience. People like being able to buy a game, roll out their online account, and get on the network for some games. [...N]ot everybody drives manual. Not everyone wants to port forward. Fact of the matter is, the less that is required to play a game, as stated on their front page, the better it is for the g
I've noticed that the Sins program seems to linger on, even after exit. That can be seen when you control/alt/delete-up the Windows Task Manager : the Sins program can be seen to linger on the user-related program list. When that happened to me, of course, I terminated the Sins program myself, in the WTM.
In my nVidia Control Panel, I highlight the V Synch line with the mouse : a drop-down menu (which was not visible before) then appears. I then select to force VS off, instead of leaving it to the default "Use the 3D Application setting". Very easy to do, but the selection menu is not obvious -- until you highlight the VS line by selecting it. Finally, you have to click "apply" (at the bottom) to enforce your changes in the Control Panel.
You mean to open ports? Most games require you to have specific ports open Nothing special about Sins in that regard. Unless you mostly play Solitare and stuff
Well, that's odd. My computers have been behind the same LinkSys router for the past 6½ years, and Sins is the one and only game that has required me to configure the router -- ever. I don't consider that Savage, World of Warcraft, EVE, Lord of the Rings Online , Guild
With that kind of rig, you should experience no problem running the game at its highest level of visual quality, especially with the example of the FPS you are getting in other recent games. Have you tried with the "Bloom Effects" option disabled? My own rig is far weaker than yours, and I get good FPS at the "highest" level of texture quality (with a few minor options disabled): Pentium 4 (four-year old!) @ 2.80 GHz 1024 MB of RAM (not recent and fast) GeForce
I then sent him the .save and .stats file of the correct game, he replaced them and I was able to host the game just fine.
That did not work for us yesterday evening. Thanks for the feedback. Perhaps one of our two files was slightly altered in the e-mail transfer. It will have to be investigated further.
Very good point, Pogue Mahone ! I'm the "idiot" who deleted all his MP saves (in the two folders -- autosaves included). Pogue e-mailed me the two files (newbie_3.sav + newbie_3.stats) which were his (the host) files, and I put them in the correct folder (I'm sure of that). When I tried to join his game reload, on ICO, I was told that I did not have the game's files -- a problem that had not happened the two previous times I had joined a Pogue-game reload

I don't think so, Pogue. A record file does not allow the viewer to play in a game : it only grants him the possibility to view a replay from any angle. I believe we would experience the very same type of problem with an autosave than with the newbie3 save : If you (or Joe) send me your autosave, I could not join, because it would be the autosave from your position in the game, not from Neologic's -- that one was destroyed forever. Neologic's position is not available
The retail box serial will overwrite your digital serial number.
Why would someone who already has a functional, downloaded Sins game (with its own "digital serial number") want to uninstall it to install, in its place, the retail-box version (with its own serial, that would overwrite the previous one) ?!? -- especially since the SDC-downloaded, digital version can be redownloaded anytime ! But anyway, it is interesting to learn that purchasing the digital
"Miraculously" ?! Nothing miraculous there : I had built huge defenses on the 3rd planet, and was in the process of building some on my 4th (Arctic). Also, my main fleet was there, keeping the door closed. I did have a significant reserve of all resources : it was my plan to build-up more ships to send an expedition to harass the comps. I don't believe it's possible for me to come back into the game, for the reasons given in my previous post's P.S. I've learned my le
