For the most part i enjoy playing games with my friends and not online with random people and i don't have that many friends who play this game so i play against the ai mostly.
It's possible that you (and your friends) will get to the point where playing against the AI just becomes boring and that you'll then crave a greater and more interesting challenge. The problem with playing against the AI forever is

I can't imagine that they wouldn't make it available on Steam. Releasing Trinity on Steam seems to have generated a great many new sales.

Try setting the fleet size to Small and then turning down various eye candy settings on all computers and see if that helps. If you're computer saavy you might also lock all non-Sins programs to one CPU core and then have Sins be dedicated to another CPU core with high priority. Also, close other programs.

There seems to be a lot of new people around. I've been chatting with guys who only did it in single player and are now coming online all of the sudden. I don't know what prevented them from coming online before, but maybe Steam encourages people to try online multiplayer. I'm really surprised by just how dramatically the player counts have increased. I didn't expect it. This is a rare opportunity for people who've never played against human

Diplomacy can be used, but it's more for no teams Free For All (FFA) games. The problem with FFA online is that it can take forever to play that unless it's only 4 players. The new Diplomacy system makes it so that pacts and even treaties are more valuable and secure than before. I actually kind of like it for FFA.

The Diplomacy features were used before one of the recent patches. A recent patch made it so that BOTH players needed to up the relationship to do the pacts, which just adds an additional barrier and cost to it. Basically, Diplomacy plays just like Entrenchment except for the Faster speed setting and having to research the ability to feed credits and resources to allies.

It's good to see a Steam purchaser joining the official forum. I hope many more come and that the availability on Steam revitalizes interest in this amazing and often overlooked game.

Refineries are profitable if you build them at the right well. However, those locations on the map tend to be rare and so the issue almost never comes up in online multiplayer PvP. No one even thinks about it and almost all players follow the general rule that you shouldn't waste money on refineries and thus don't build them even where they do make sense. Refineries need a small buff.

There are a couple things right off the top of my head that need to be fixed. Fix the Z-axis, at least for online multiplayer PvP games. Fix starting positions so that no one gets screwed without an asteroid. Eliminate overlapping and near-overlapping gravity wells (very annoying). Fix the Mesh Error--it's an eyesore that needs to be completely eliminated.

That's great news. Will those of us who purchased Sins and all of the expansions previously be able to just register them at STEAM now? Will updates also be available there? I hope this means we can finally get a dedicated Sins forum at the Steam forums. Earlier I created a Steam group to advertise Sins online multiplayer: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/SinsOnline

If this ends up becoming a fairly regular thing we can even alternate Vanilla - Mod1 - Vanilla - Mod2 etc., letting additional people participate each time.
I think it might be interesting if people tried the Sins Plus (extra planet types) mod in the games, but I've never seen that happen on ICO.
Wow. Just wow. This gives me even more ammunition to not go on ICO. Apart from flaming, trolling, verbal abuse, minidumps, etc, now we've got people who don't even play fair. Thanks guys. Keep these threads coming. I get a real kick out of watching you make fools out of yourselves. And reading them, of course.
If you don't have the balls to play against real players and you want to keep playing against predicta
don't hate me for using it, hate who ever decided to put z-axis as part of the game. because its in the game and i'm making use of it does not mean you have to blame me for it so live with it. you throw tantrum worst than my ex girlfriend. all i have to say is STFU and eat it til its done!
Yeah, it's in the game, but the game wasn't exactly designed with competitive online multiplayer PvP in mind. I doubt that the developers contemplated that when

There were a couple new guys around yesterday. I played in a game where two guys had actual records (80-100 games) but had only played against AI and were thus raw. There were also two or three guys who were coming onto ICO for the first time. Hopefully they'll all stick with it.
