Here's what I posted in the tech support forum: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/347640 But effectively, I can't connect to games. Connection Info dialog usually comes up completely empty (I don't even see myself). Very rarely it'll work once, but won't work again after that. I thought it was the router, but I replaced it with a brand new D-Link 825 and the problem was exactly the same. Even being in the DMZ doesn't work, which I find bizzare since I *know* (and have ve

This is a relatively young industry, the idea that Steam will somehow own the entire market for all time is pretty silly. Now if someone wants to point out w
Is the thing that blew up on Friday going to be coming back, or is that part of Wednesday's beta? Also, will new maps be on tap once this is sorted out along with new Demigods?

But Frogboy isn't the only one working on these problems (and likely isn't even the primary one working on it). Him writing these updates doesn't really slow down the work of getting those connection problems solved. If he wasn't writing these updates, the problems woul
We're not sick of it, no. :) But once the connection stuff is solved, you might get sick of it. The updates will probably get less frequent at that point, and thats cool. :) I'd rather see occasional instresting updates then see you try to keep updating every day even when you have nothing to say.
The difference between "creative use of mechanics" and "exploit" is entirely dependent on what the developers do about it. If they say "cool", then its fine. If it's a bug and they squash it, then its an exploit. It looks like a bug to me, like they intended the caps to be per minion group rather then individual type and just put the "IF" in the wrong spot. Any programmer has done that more then a few times (speaking from experience :) ). But until they say what they th
I'm looking forward to the proxies, hopefully they'll let me connect. Do you plan to do a test with people who have connection problems now to verify that they actually solve the problem?
I didn't realize so many people actually used XP 64. It was never meant for home use.
Is the proxy going to be an optional thing we turn on, or will it get used automatically? Keep up the good work.
Update to this. I found the log file. It's pretty huge, but here is the first bit from when I last tried to host a game. The last line I copied in (NAT_FAILED) suggests something is going wrong, but I can't tell what. Should also mention that I'm using Vista 64 bit, and the router is connected over ADSL using PPPoE in Canada. Thanks for any help! Hi. Just got the game yesterday on the advice of a friend. We played our first game with no difficulty, which was a custom game. That was the last time I've been able to play. Since then, I can't connect to any games, either with the same person or in general skirmish/pantheon. It always gets stuck at "connecting to other players." The weird thing about this to me is that the "Connection Info" box is always empty for me. Totally empty. Even I don'
I'm seeing this now. While the custom game list is updating, everything freezes. It can freeze for extended periods. Try to pick a game and hit join, and in between it decides to auto update, and freezes again. That'd be a good task to put in a background thread so it doesn't block the UI so severely.
I don't really understand why the multiplayer server doesn't do a serial number/account check when you connect. Every legitimate user has a serial number, and they'll have an Impulse account to get updates. So that seems like a simple solution to kill pirated copies, and thus 88% of the server load.
Just to be clear on the setup: you have a computer that has a DVD drive, but no Internet. That's the computer you want to play on. You have two other computers with Internet and no DVD drive. I haven't tried this, but theoretically you could install Demigod on your machine. Use the "archive" option to make a copy of the install. Copy the archive over a USB key to one of the computers with Internet. Install Impulse, login as you, and unpack the archive (effectively
Digital distribution and publisher hatred of the used market will eventually drive Gamestop out of business. When that happens, I'll be celebrating.
A lot of .net work gets done in VB, and if all you're getting is a compiled installer you'd never really notice the difference. It's got a worse reputation then the current version deserves, mostly due to VB6 and its ilk. Counting at 0 these days is just a defacto standard, there's no technical reason why modern compilers couldn't adapt if we started at 1 instead. I wish we would, 0 based indexes always cause confusion and off by one bugs from new programmers.
This is better than the multiple terrain names and multiple maps being shared. I've suggested related recommendations earlier, but in any case it should be one single map with each terrain having one name used by everyone. Otherwise problems such as 4 players meet via IM chats to discuss an allied strategy against one super powerful player would cause each player of the four players to be looking at 4 d
Agree on the getting over-complicated point, but naming stuff really does matter to those of us with a strong RPG streak and probably others. Even if a river has no mechanical role in the game, naming it is part of transforming a randomly generated map into an immersive game world.
My point isn't that the naming stuff isn't a good thing (I love the idea of naming rivers and such), just that we don't need some
Well, you could make a Cleric unit as one that has a healing ability instead of an army wide bonus. Patching up your forces after a battle is really useful (or even during it, if the heal is usable during tactical combat).
This is getting vastly over-complicated. Naming should be something fun and simple, not something burdened with 50 rules and 2000 lines of code to enforce them. If you and I want to both name the same river something else, who cares? In the past that river had no name at all, and I managed to tell you where I wanted you to go just fine using things like map pings or "that river Southeast of Shadowprey Village." Over-complexity just means more rules to learn and more chances fo
Honestly, some of this EA hate isn't deserved anymore. They've been making a real effort recently to produce more new games and less sequels. Did all those games work out? No. But that's exactly why companies like to produce a zillion sequels instead of innovating. I mean they picked up Brutal Legend when it was abandoned, so they can't be all bad. They're also backtracking on DRM. What's really happening here is that Will Wright is leaving Maxis and going to another co
It's not that uncommon for different civilizations to have different names for the same landmark, especially if they're at war. So if I want to name the river "St. Tridus Brook" and you want to name it "Frogboy was here"... hey, the winner of the war gets to decide on the final name! :)
