And wait, so the SMAC's are just really OP defense platforms? That takes all the fun away from them. If he SMAC's are just sledgehammer wielding eggshells, where the fun? I thought the UNSC wasn't going to die really fast against the Covenant, just really easily. I mean, some UNSC ships can survive ONE plasma torpedo.

Well, lasers were actually used as anti-capital weapons, IF the fights got close enough. Most fights were between fleets at long ranges, with dreadnoughts firing their spinal mass drivers and the cruisers providing escort duties. Frigates would move in fast and circle-strafe around the bigger ships after their kinetic barriers were down. And lasers were useful against big ships because kinetic barriers stop solid projectiles, not lasers. So, lasers will actually be useful in this mod

Well, yeah, but in ME they used fighters for scouting in systems. However there isn't a lot of empty space in Sins. The researches could be done, simply as "Advance Scouts" or something else plausible.

Well, SMAC's tend to kill things. Fast. Really fast. And they have massive range. How fast? One ship every five seconds. So even 1 SMAC can do a lot of pain. Add in multiple SMAC's, plus some ships for defense and you have Reach not falling, especially as SMAC's will repair ships and host strikecraft, and the Covenant can't send down teams to take out the SMAC's planet-side generators. So Reach having a butt-load of SMAC's will force the Covenant to think more than twice about attacking.

Unfortunately, he didn't change planet size (I don't think) otherwise the planets would dwarf everything, including SSD's.

Eville has a lot of stuff done. And I think that if he has it done for HW2, he will have it here. Eventually. Reworking and rebalancing ships take a while. Yes, even the Vong will be included.

Well, explosions are a way for the game to get rid of needing to render models. There's no model to render if its shrapnel. The more models Sins has to render, the harder it has to work.

That's exactly what he's trying to do. However, with the very asymmetrical balance this mod will have, that won't work very well. One side has ultra-powerful ships and the other side has ultra-powerful defenses. However, it is quicker to get ships than defenses, so as soon as the UNSC is found, they are pretty much dead. Now, in Halo canon, that wasn't so bad because finding humanity's planets wasn't very easy. Here, all that needs to be done is following phase lanes. So, whoever f

Well, its not that. Like the Codex says, you would have to be an idiot to take on a dreadnought with anything but a dreadnought. And the Salarians aren't stupid. They have dreadnoughts. I was merely saying that the different races have different military setups. Turians have big, powerful ships. Salarians are smaller on average, but they know everything there is to know about the other side to compensate. The Alliance is like the United States in space. We use m

Well, a fair amount is known about each species's individual tactics, simply from the in-game Codex. Salarians rely on stealth, sabotage, and information to win. Turians have bigger, more powerful ships than everyone else. Alliance uses combined arms tactics and high mobility. Geth spam lots of weak ships, until they get a Reaper to obliterate everything. A Council faction, consisting of the best, most powerful and expensive ships from the Turians and

Its a great idea, except the Mass Effect government isn't quite that simple, with just the Council, the Systems Alliance, and the Reapers/Geth. Even though the Turians have a seat on the Council, there is still the Turian Hierarchy. Asari may be the founders of the Council, but there is still a separate Asari government (well, they don't really have a government TBH). Salarians have a Council seat, but the Salarians still have their own separate semi-feudal government.

Okay. I can deal with those imbalances. Of course, the Breen will be very unbalanced with 1 ship being used for scouting, colonization, battles, and siegeing planets. I think we can all live with a buggy, not very balanced demo, if it lets us have fun in the Star Trek universe. Here's to the Federation!

What about single star maps where the players don't need interstellar phase jump research? And with the Covenant having no scout, are you suggesting we remove scouting completely, including the Explore ability? Balancing this so neither side has an unfair advantage with this will be next-to-impossible .

2,504 Replies 4,935,970 Views

So, essentially, you can't balance this out. If the Covenant get it before the humans have lots of SMAC's around ALL their planets, the Covenant win. If the UNSC gets it, it just sends some suicide siege ships to bomb their most heavily populated worlds to dust from outer space, destroying Covenant credit income and letting the UNSC gain the upper hand through their much more powerful economy and massive industrialization. I'm guessing black marketeers don't like working with the Covenant, so

Well, Xin is similar to Xen, the name of that weird dimension that all those aliens in Half-life are from. Damn it, why did they have to run that anti-mass-spectrometer at 120% and cause a resonance cascade causing the end of the world as we know it by a massive invasion of weird aliens, who we don't even get to kill in Half-life 2. Seriously. Half-life 2 has zero aliens for you to kill. It's all Combine, headcrabs, and zombies. Technically headcrabs are aliens, but they are more

Well, High Charity is pretty damn big. Its like Ceres big, which is actually now considered a "pluton" or whatever the hell Pluto is now that it isn't a planet. Hell, High Charity is "built around an entire freaking Forerunner Dreadnought huge". Does anyone know the name of the actual homeworld of the San'Shyuum? Because it isn't High Charity. That's just the Covenant's capital. Still, the Brutes are the most recent of the Covenant races. Hell, the Sangheili don't even let them
