We actually discussed this today, and it looks like the mechanism to detect new icons and icon moves on the desktop is going to be overhauled to work better. Expect some Fences updates in the near future.
Should we try checking for updated drivers? Part of the reason I'm hesitant is reports of new problems with 'the latest' drivers.
Checking to make sure your drivers are up to date is always a good idea.
yeah i figured i id be the one with that problem..but you know what? i actually find that "bug" helpful to me, i rather right click to load for the first time then have it automatically show at start up.
If it's not broke don't fix it. If you do decide you're not liking this, please e-mail so we can get more in depth info on the situa
P.S. The user folder icon on the desktop is a shortcut but it is not a .lnk file. So not sure what you are talking about.
Any shortcut is actually a .lnk file, Windows just suppresses showing the extension.
The "Shredder" icon is not moved.
Is that the user folder shortcut, or another icon?
I don't want it sorted with the other folders. However, fences keeps sorting it w/ the other folders
It's po
Agreed. An important aspect of computer security is understanding exploit vectors. Understanding how you can be hacked is crucial to prevent being hacked.
Why does impulse sit there and update for 7 minutes? Why does impulse sit there in "connecting mode" for over 18 minutes? When it does log on, i dont see a My software tab.
What sort of Internet connection are you on? Impulse updates should take no more than a few seconds.
Click on the "My Software" tab and Fences should be listed. Impulse is only required to run when downloading or updating, and does not stay resident in the background. Also, it should only be using about 30MB of RAM.
The Awakening's expansion through Impulse is simply the installer provided to us by EA. If you're having issues after installing it, I would suggest contacting EA support.
This shouldn't be required, and it sounds like something is preventing Fences from loading correctly until that context menu is shown (which I believe will load the .dll to show the 'Configure Fences...' option.)
Settings are stores in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\Fences You can export this from the registry and import on the new machine.
Do any of these help?
Do you have any apps installed that would change the start menu image?
Fences is a .dll file loaded into explorer.exe, and would not show up in startup items. I would say try adding exceptions for Fences in the AV software, as that's all I can really think of that may delay the load.
The new beta should now be available. Does it help with this issue?
Did you reboot after install? DeskScapes will restart explorer on install, which would affect the tray icons the first time. Once you reboot they should be fine.
If you just want to change a few icons and leave them you could always just install the IP trial. The Icons don't revert when the trial expires or the app is uninstalled.
If you're using a military address, as long as you set the country to the one you're in in the billing info it should go through. There are exceptions built in for such addresses.
3rikIconPackager: Do you have HyperDesk or TuneUp installed as well?
Weird, because for me both of those options drop the files outside of all fences. But at least it can be reproduced in one case. Does this mean it can/will be fixed in a later version of Fences?
Yes, I'll have Jeff look at it. Can't say when such an update will show up though.
DE is working fine for me, for over a day. But I do believe that's a 'programmatic' dream rather than video-based.
This is true. What specifically happens when trying to play video dreams?
The last update was 28/09/09
I'd just like to take a second to point out this "Last Update" field in Impulse refers to the last time the app's configuration was updates. Drive Scan hasn't had any code changes in a long while, and most likely was updated for testing purposes.
What's working vs. not? Specifically, do the Desktop Earth and Planktonic dreams work?
Yes, a link to my user folder on the desktop (actually the link placed there by windows itself.)
Yes, this makes sense then because what you're seeing is a shortcut(.lnk) and not an actual directory. Your user directory actually lives in C:\Users and not on the desktop, so this would not get sorted with the other folders.
I'm roughly 98.74% sure it started this nonsense right after I went from Vista x64 to 7 ultimate x32 bit
Did this involve reinstalling Fences, or did you have it installed on a partition that was not formatted for the reinstall?
What version of VMware Workstation are you running specifically?
