Games are different than music CD's. You can more fully support an artist by going to their concerts and buying shirts than buying their CD's. One of my major's in college was music industry. In spending many months studying and purchasing independent books on record contracts I determined that artists get ripped off huge by these companies whatever their "claim" about the band being a gamble is. This is why you see armies of corporation spokesmen crying aloud and not very many artists. I'm an a

I don't use PJI but I do make a secondary fleet of about 250-300 ship slots (starting 2nd to max fleet size). · 9 flak · 6 and 6 support cruisers · 15 HC · 5-10 light frig (cobalts etc.) · LRM's I use this to harrass planets from a different angle. The objective is to jack a few structures and bug out once a fleet arrives. AI rarely has more than 2 big fleets. You'll always dominate a single AI fleet because chances are you aren't scouting as much as AI does.<br
Ion bolt has been the #1 killer of capital ships for me when I've got a fleet that won't steam roll a retreating cap. The beauty lies in how close it's CD is to the duration of the ability. I still attack low level 1-3 caps pretty early in a fight vs. AI. Generally the AI has spent cash on the upgrades so you'll find them leveling before a single ship has gone down....this means a more powerful opponent. I don't know if downing cap in process of leveling means the creds spent on the upg
The Akkan level 6 ability (Armistice?) is a 60 second invulnerability for both sides. Has anyone entertained Bomber fleets that jump into an empty system and nuke the heck outa it with an Akkan backup (for bugging out) when a defensive fleet arrives? This would be separate from your main fleet of course, and taking any alternative route to harrass your enemy.
I agree it's not a sound tactic for startup games. Taxes don't really hurt until the 4-5th stage of fleet logistics. By then you should have expanded enough for culture to start helping out quite a bit...especially on those 4 phase lane connector planets. I've noticed the fields with no planets seem to have juicy roids compared to planets...like 2x 0.96 metal roids I got in my current game! I'm not sure if culture affects those since there is no taxation. It'd sure be nice to a .096 bonus on tho
afterdeath was it just one AI? I remember building a single Novalith and all of a sudden 3 AI broke their treaties with me and started attacking me at the same time.
I have the same problem. Thank god it's not just cuz I suck. I've been trying 40-102 maps with 7-9 other AI all on hard and unlocked teams. The most success I've had recently is by starting with 4 allies in a 5v5 unlocked. So far no one has switched because some of my guys are getting hammered by other teams. I don't pitch in which forces the other AI's to come in and attack keeping animosity between AI's high. I'm focusing on light blue while I ignore the others. It's kind of a shame t
Don't forget there is a hefty economy boost. I'm not sure how high culture can raise your planet's allegience but at least with Advent lately I've been seeing 110% on my home planet and 100% on several connecting planets. I'm guessing with advent at least it has a maximum increase of 10% though I've yet to really expiriment. How does this affect your economy? If you have 35% allegience on a planet, you only gain 35% of it's income. If you can raise that by 5% with culture you'v
Developing an effective counter sounds like a good idea. Nerfs aren't really that bad. The only problem with them is that devs tend to "over-nerf" or "under-nerf". The former is far more prevelant although I will also say the "perfect nerf" is often lumped into that category by the playerbase. Developing an effective counter id. flaks is a great idea. I might have put it as a support cruiser at first if I knew how to mod, then again I'm not sure how the AI would calculate to make it an
I've logged on a few times to Ironclad online to try and find a game. Usually I see people going in and out the lobby but nowhere do I see them in the other channels. The viewer says up to 125 people on line but I don't see them. I figure they're in games so I check out the open games....everyone's always got a password so it's hard to jump in :( Any advice finding a game?
As for mini games I do try to do specific strategies but make a mini game out of it...like taking carriers 2-3 planets deep into enemy territory and seeing how many structures I can bomb.
2.66 quad 3 gigs ram. It's fast for me :) I know muti-thread isn't really supported but I think it helps with running Vista 64 and anything else. In a year or two I'll problably upgrade to 8 gigs of ram. using an 8800gt vid card. I plan to SLI that in a year or two to keep pace with "moderate" game settings.
I didn't know about fleet as a rally point. That's nice cuz I'm often holding a fleet while I wait for a gaggle of cruisers or frigs to replenish their numbers. I'd be nice to be able to establish a priority of structure & planet defense acting as a general "kill this unit if it attacks my civ research station". Something on a scale of 3 high priority ordered 1-3 and the rest low priority. I'd like the guard unit as well. I know the AI does a good job so I'm not to worried abou
Just a quick question about the Novalith. Does it have a max range within a star system? 1...2...3 planets?
What's the average planet amount/time to complete ratio in MP? I'm hoping for 2-4 hour runs (solid 3's if possible).
I call shinanigans. It's well known that SoaSE pricing is tied to oil. Stardock is funded by the UAE who figure if the lower the prices on their addictive game they can gouge us for necessary oil it costs for us to go get it/get it shipped to us.
I never bothered to look and I'm curious too hehe. Thanks Retro!
I was disappointed about the lack of a campaign when I first got the game but I liked the demo enough. I've come to find that the lack of a campaign was problably best. Sins is definately complex. It just doesn't seem like it when you first start out. You've got a few tech trees and very few buildings. The complexity lies in the ships and mix and matching of your micro/macro abilities. Once you begin to appreciate the full scale of your fleet behavior when you barely touch it you'll understand t
I stomped 1 of four AI's this morning. The rest is just mop up. Thanks for the lockup idea! Now I'll be more comfortable playing TEC and Advent to polish my skills!
I'm still learning at a rapid pace every game I play in SP. I know MP is different but a lot of what I'm learning is functionality. For instance this weekend I just learned that you can click the left planet bar that displays how many ships you have in the system to select and move them. I also read today that a lot of players effectively scuttle the abundance of carriers they get from RA to boost econ and built support ships more effectively. That being said, since I rely on RA in SP games when
It'd be nice if diplomacy let you give ships to your allies. I'd limit it by race though.
If you play mp you know what I mean.
You opened yourself to both MP and SP comments. Next time just specifically state you're talking about MP balance to get MP response. From an SP point of view though I still see TEC as faulty. If I build a cannon I instantly get gibbed by a bunch of pissed off armies who by all rights shouldn't even know I have it yet. RA doesn't give that and imo it is a very powerful tool both offensively and defensively. Adv
Trying to beat 4 AI. I believe I can't side get the full blown treaty or it blows the cap off the achievement. Does this go for a cease fire? I'm not sure what the difference between the two is. It isn't hard to get a cease fire, but it's a b*tch and a half to defend vs. 4 hard AI at once....even as Vasari.
I'm having a problem playing vs. 4 AI though. I can't diplomacy cuz I loose the achievment. I've worked myself up to 97% with a fella and just cuz I didn't have a cease fire with him he had the biggest fleet attacking me over and over. You'd think that if the guy wanted to be your friend he wouldn't attack you so much.
I'm predicting flak platforms. It just makes to much sense why we should have them and no sense why they aren't already in.
