If that's consistent you have a bug - multiple modules *do* add up Indeed, if you're *really* lazy, you can drop multiple troop modules + 1 colony module, and have a dual use ship - - generally by end game you can drop 3-4 billion colonists at once. Jonnan

I thought, at one time, there was a way to 'install' an older version of the game from impulse, which I decided I was interested in primarily because I wanted to actually see what had changed over time, what updates were hard-coded, and what had been tweaked via XML. Well, if there ever was, I can't find it now- does anyone recall how to do this or is there any other way of finding the 'historical' xml files that anyone is aware of? Thanks - Jonnan

Someone mentioned this a couple screens back, and I like it more generally than he actually has it - You should be able to have a starbase module that allows for ship construction - industrial input would only be from asteroid colonies, exactly as if it were a planet. On the one hand, the gives another 'strategic resource', especially around 5-6 deepspace asteroid belts with no other bonuses, but also no loss because the Starbase is of course, right there, on the other, it doe

The usery laws were state laws. Allowing interstate banking set things in motion. There are many reasons why interstate banking is a good thing, but the trumping of usery laws w

Frontline has done so many stories on how rigged the credit markets are it's just insane. The one I noticed lately is the neat trick of setting your billing cycles out of sync with your actual payment cycle - apply your payment to your previous bill rather than your next one so the next bill gets underpaid. I've got mine fixed, but it's a neat little trick to watch out for - Jonnan.

Yeah, it's a mixed bag, but contrawise you can only research one tech a week. Although I will happily do some horse trading with the krynn to get some further espionage bonues, I have actually gotten spies in every empire - generally only one or two have the 'umph' to really keep pumping out counteragents after I've killed off the initial reserve, and spies do seem to sometimes get techs that aren't available for trade - a definite advantage. I know for a fact (having built the PC in question, albeit ages ago.) that XP was updating automatically. It got in anyway - {grrr}. Also past several other defensive items (inc AVG). Which is why the main OS is Ubuntu now, the XP is simply a backup for those few programs that she needs for that. <

Quick note - Starbases, or more to the point *orbital* platforms. A: The starbase 'logististical point' system should be on a sliding scale. Massive Starbases should 'cost' more logistical points than small base stations. Something as small as a sensor outpost should cost you no logistical points to build. B: You should be able to build Orbital starbases - they would count as defending ships in orbit, should cost relatively less logistical points than a st

Yeah - I've started getting ahead on spies, blitz a race, wait for him to kill off his reserve, then drop down to 1-2 spies. Build up my reserve again, blitz race B, rinse repeat, till I have 1-2 spies in each empire. That seems to maximize my chance of getting 'something' on a given turn. Have yet to get *anything* from a minor - not sure if I've been unlucky, or if they're immune to tech stealing the same way they're immune to influence, but I don't typically target them till later

Just a quick notion - After AVG failed utterly to protect my sisters computer fom this latest worm, I went ahead and checked out the free versions (via http://www.av-test.org/ studies) of AVG, avast, and antivir, both of the latter are reviewing better than AVG for malware and a number of other issues than free avg -avast was actually the strongest of the three, but antivir did only slightly worse and with about a third the process footprint (700 Mhz PC = important); Just a thou
-The Yor are absolutely the worst in the game, they lack so many 'essentials' to normal gameplay, you often need to leave ALL your planets empty just to not go broke (if you play with tech trading OFF, it makes it nigh impossible to achieve any type of very strong economy and military --- no money equals no victory).
I find that so odd - I just played a yor techtree game about three games ago. and they certainly didn't feel like the worst - not in comparison to the tha

Bull. I can come up with one immediately obvious reason to 'waste' a tile on plnetary defense. It's a planet that is strategically located and it's conquest would fucking cripple me. DING DING DING. And that is exactly why I 'waste' tiles on planetary defense on some worlds. Because the 30 tile world with a precurosr library happens to be right on the edge of Drengin space, and it's loss means I lose my primary research facility - under those circumstances, you bloody

Actually, my recollection is that tech stealing is actually decoupled from the level of intelligence you have on a rival. The word, as I last understood it, is that you need one agent in a Civ to have the chance to steal tech each week. Extra agents do *not* make a difference, so having one agent in Civ 'X', two in civ 'Y', and three in Civ 'Z' gives you an equal chance each week to steal a tech from each of them, but that chance is the same (re, pretty damn slim) regardless of the le

Quick 'graphics' thought on the table, as Fractal Terrain generation for planets, rather than 'raw' files. Ideal method - convert the name of the planet to a random seed, such that given random seed 'x' and certain predetermined startup conditions, the planet Sirius IV will generate the same planetary crust consistently, and adjust according to the particular game (Extreme planet, high quality planet, et al). If planet name already has a raw file, use that, if you have a speci
Impossible? To defend 10 planets in this fashion, you have to build 10 separate defensive fleets. To take one planet, all you need to do is destroy one of those fleets. The attacker has an innate advantage: being the instigator, they determine the time and place of the attack, and they determine how much force to bring to bear against a target. The point of this is to give the defender an advantage, thus reestablishing balance.
The fundamental prob

IN the neither here nor there range - is there anythnig more fun than being in the lead tech wise, with no ship, and having the Drengin, Korath or Krynn try to extort money, fail, declare war, and turn around and push out 40 ships so far ahead of them the war is over before half of them have seen combat? It is a beautiful thing - {G}. Although, arguably, the AI ought to have some concept of "What is his military? What is his military potential ?". But I don't care, bec
