I like the idea of a "gaurdian". This reminds me of Master of Orion 2 where most of the Largest/best planets were gaurded by huge space creatures that you had to kill before you could colonize said planet. This would make it very difficult to get those planets until around mid game when you had the technology to defeat them. --For Elemental they could also add in an additional angle. You can either kill the guardian...or convince him

I think it is important to keep the ability to focus your heroes in different directions. It makes them feel different each time you play. Rather than just getting generic bonuses, I think I perfer the HoMM's skill style. Though, it annoyed me a little when the skills I wanted for a character wouldn't come up, I think it made it interesting.
At the same time you can design troops and stuff on a very individual basis. So in same way, there is a bit of new kinds of micromanagment. (I guess you can do that while you are waiting for other players though, or out of the game in general)
Man, I am excited to give MY guy a armor, a sythe, and stick him on a bear. I wonder how hard it will be to get the different options to manufactor. (or whatever you do to get bears, horses, and pegesi) If it is all based on what resources are around your town then town placement is going to be really important. Balance for starting locations might be rough too.
Well, I feel the major problem is simple scale. In HoMM, your hero gets more and more powerful, but its supposed to be a reward for using him. Since you shouldn't have to rebuild every level, they let you carry over at least your hero so you start with an army to be feared. I agree there is probebly a better way. But it sounds like they already know how they plan to do it. I just hope the regular skermishes are as good as they were in MoM </
*misses Void as Element instead of Life*
I think that void should be a combo of spells. Like if you are the guy that takes 2 books in every element (rather than 10 in 1 element) then you open up the void spells. If you study every element, then naturally you'd know spells that would the absense of every element. earth+fire+wind+water+life (heart) = void spells that is what I say anyway.
The concept of lesser and greater heroes needed to be abolished. It meant the player was completely discouraged from hiring lesser heroes and heroes became too much a late-game i-win button not a full game length strategic element. All heroes should be essentially created equal and progress through levels or some other fair system of progression. If you must have greater and lessor hero summoning spells or something, have the lesser one summon level 1 heroes who can still get to level
I think its funny that X-play awarded Sins best strategy game award, and since everybody has been using screenshots form the X-play presentation. The thing is, they didn't play regular Sins. They played entrenchment (which isn't out yet). So the best RTS game of 2008 isn't out yet.
man, they are really pulling out all the stops on this beta. I hope it comes out in time for christmas break.
Oh, and this just occored to me (while I was reading the list) Since the change logs get Shorter and shorter and shorter, one day all you dudes and chicks over there at Stardock and Ironclad will be sitting around, the perfect Sins change finnaly released and your manager will come in and say,"Alright, great job Team! But, I'm sorry to say that... you're FIRED( )!! Yup, that's right, since Sins is finnaly devoid of all those little niches we don't need you anymore, but tha
I am sad the irc client in my copy of impulse does not seem to work. not only does in not have #elemental, but when I join anything it is empty [e digicons]:'([/e]
Mom had things like mithril and Adamantine (sp?) that made a city special.

If trade allowed them to be used in other cities, this is a benefit for the whole kingdom, but it makes each city less individual.
Well, don't forget things like the nightshade, that couldn't be traded. I agree with you 100% that there should be things that make a place special. I feel that some resources should be tradable, and some shouldn't
that would be interesting. Curses on the enemies is a classic for when a powerful wizard or something dies. That would make multiplayer games really tense, because nobody would want to finish each other off unless there was a way to prevent it. Would there be a way to remove the curse? What are the catches? Because I wouldn't want to be the guy who happened to be foolish enough to wipe out the life-channeler just to find that he cursed all my units
ah yes. Earth-water definatly should have swampy things. Maybe we should start also considering 3, 4, or even 5 element spells. life - fire - water - earth - wind : void spells, prismatic spray, Master of Magic/Cataclysm/ F-everybody-but-me-spells fire - earht - water - wind: nature rending, worldly mastery (like perfect movement through all types of terrain and accross planes) Life-fire-earth : Magma m
that is pretty awesome. I'm surprised 'warlord' is so big, since I don't really remember anybody saying it. Channeler, world, game, cities, option, and so on are a given. They will be brought up over and over again in most threads (where bear might be said maybe once every other post as part of an almost joke). Then words like 'appropriate' start to slip in I guess because apparently most other common adjectives and articles are ignored by that list
The above being said, I do hope that, to meet the standards placed by DOTA, we get many more characters in expansion packs. Like more than 2 per expension (unless the expanions do something else really cool) I also am cursed at f or being a noob. Which is why demigod excites me . I like DotA, but I find it frustrating because I suck at it.
See, what excites me is originally* they had 3 betas. We are now into what would be beta 3 I think. That means when they DO release it, we will be getting the whole 9 yards. no more waiting until release (i hope)
its funny that you made a list of different ideas, but they are the whole threads. Like Specific vs focused tech progression is so full of ideas I don't know where to start.
Well, I called it necropolis because that is what it is called in HoMM. In AoW it is just called 'undead city'. In theory anything would work.
it could get the "Horse Master" trait, resulting in better cavalry. Another city that does nothing but make swords could get the "Master Weaponsmiths" trait.
That is kinda how I would like it. but I imagined other similar ideas focusing more on magic. Thinks like 'summon master' that ensures that summon creatures are ensured into spellbooks and very prominant. Or 'cavalry master' which lets cavalry units (summoned or otherwise) be stronger
I'll try.... Life: Healing, raising dead, holy/unholy Fire: Burning, heat, chaos Water: soothing, flooding, mystery Earth: mountains, defense, resources, land movement Wind: Tornados, Movement, communication, speed Life – Fire: holy flames, hell hounds Life – Water: fish, poison, mass healing, purification Life – Earth: Plant
Yeah, I might have to buy a copy to support it as well. I have a bit of interest in Prince of Persia, so I hope it is a good installment of the series.
I'm about to eat my own legs in anticipation. But to be the 1 supporter of the wait, I am glad it didn't come out this week. Because if it did my finals would not.
woah... killing ourselves over Might and magic... whatever happened to my true might and magic games? I miss my 1st person = entire party dungeon crawling. but that is a different story. While the raw play has very different focuses, that doesn't mean we can't learn and use a lot from HoMM. HoMM has more focus on heroes, but that is mostly because MoM didn't have the scope to do even more than it already did. Logically, there is g
