My only complaint about Impulse is number of updates that get pushed out to the software itself (esp since I've no idea what they're for). You can right-click on a program entry in Impulse and click "View History" to see the program's changelog.
Thanks, but wrong updates. I mean updates to Impulse itself , rather than update announcements for applications (I like that part). Often (maybe less so
I have a very similar problem: I had crashes since several weeks at random intervals (10 minutes to a few hours) when using DeskScape . Either the screen freezes or even the monitor signal is lost completely. I have a Dell XPS 420 with Geforce 8800 GTX graphics card. Dell replaced my mainboard, my graphics card and had me reinstall the operating system (I used the opportunity to switch from Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit). No change! What finally
Well, check that one "I hate Impulse" thread whatever it was called, there's a lot of positive posts in there too. If you ignore the OP's rantings - lol. Actually - it may have been a different forum, but they're out there.
Bah, I can't find Winter Snow anymore for some reason. But... since the creator happens to be posting in this thread anyway perhaps he can shed some light on the issue? I don't have any problems with 3d games either, just with certain DS dreams. Edit - Just realized how old this thread is. Not the most active forum here huh? [e digicons];P[/e]
Actually I already own OD, so I've "bitten the bullet". [e digicons]^_^[/e] Was just wondering what cool stuff I have access to that I don't know about. Thanks Cameochi (and to the others attempting to assist), but I don't think this is "whining" either! A user-created list of descriptions would be nice of course but honestly, I feel this is something Stardock should provide us with. They probably already have the text sitting around somewher
My God some of you people are hostile. (Can we at least wait until after the thread has come to a conclusion before we make the wrong assumption that a simple "thanks" will not be forthcoming?) How disappointing. I'm sorry but a tutorial listing some of the major apps did not really help. The important question ("Is there some comprehensive list and description of all these things somewhere that I'm missing?") has still not been answered, but I think that IS the answ
But where did those descriptions come from? There are others I'm wondering about too and I was hoping I wouldn't have to do 10 google easter egg hunts to find them. :( It would be nice if we could just right click on these things, select "info" and have it actually go to correct links for each item (as well as filtering ones we don't need). It seems a simple thing to fix the links or to create html descriptions for these items.
What makes you assume that the problem is something that can be fixed in WB, vs something that Chrome is doing which can't be overridden?
Maybe this is a stupid question but it's not completely obvious what some of the items listed as 'available software' for Object Desktop actually are and do. The "Info" context option only leads to descriptions for the popular items but never for the weirder ones. Ex. Desktop Gadgets ObjectBar vs ObjectDock Plus vs ObjectDock Plus 2 DesktopX 4 Theme Manager Is there some comprehensive list and description of all these things
I have a problem similar to this (hopefully the same issue). Basically my screen locks up. Sometimes I get a few seconds warning because the UI starts to get EXTREMELY slow, gradually worsening, until everything locks up entirely. When this happens I still see the desktop but NOTHING responds, no ctrl-alt-del, nothing. Other times the screen just suddenly goes black and stays black (I've left it for some time to see if it recovers, never does). I have yet to se
Impulse: 35 MB Hard Disk Space 2.5 MB RAM if left running in the taskbar (completely optional) No annoying ads in your face all the time (unless you go looking for them specifically on certain tabs) No significant impact to startup time (again, if set to run at startup) Allows you to keep your 'start menu' and/or desktop free of lots of game/utility shortcuts if you use the taskbar icon No bandwidth hijacking or CPU hogging for
This may not matter, but I have 10.51 right now... hope that doesn't require yet another update to WB! Opera skins do seem different, now some of them are like Chrome with the tabs on the very top. Did you try other Opera skins? I'd be half-willing to bet that the "classic" skin will behave differently (tabs not on the top row). It's definitely worth trying the latest version of Opera - I was starting to switch to Chrome because it was getting slow like Firefox and
I have Win7 w/Deskscapes (and a very similar PC) and I see similar things but only with certain dreams (usually the more complex ones). I've never installed any codecs myself (who knows if some rogue app did or not, though).
Here's what I mean:
Okay okay, so I was a bit sensationalist there. It's not "broken". [e digicons]O:)[/e] What I mean is, whenever I download a file from my browser or otherwise paste a file onto my desktop, I have Fences set up to automatically move all those new files to a certain "temporary" fence so I always know exactly where to look for newly added files. This works fine normally but in the case with 7-zip "Extract here", it results in this weird bug. To me s
Well heaven forbid us customers should put stardock out, I mean who are we right? we just paid them our money for their software and now we have the nerve to ask for them to work a little harder and package up the data with their patch instead of having it connect over the internet.
But it's not just a matter of Stardock "working a little harder". More work means employing and paying someone
On Windows 7 when I "Extract here" on a zip file (on Desktop) using the Windows context menu, the folder inside the zip file extracts to the desktop fine, but does not get automagically moved to the "default" fence. Instead it ends up on the desktop itself (actually it partially overlaps with another unrelated fence), and I have to move it to the "default" fence myself. This is with Fences Pro and the free 7-zip utility. Fairly sure this is a Fences bug and not directly re

Nice, I hadn't thought of that. Why wouldn't you like Impulse anyway? I think it's great. It was hard for me to accept at first because I'm very much a system tray minimalist, but after I accepted Impulse living in my system tray I've found it definitely deserves the privilege. (Besides it beats the crap out of "Steam" which is a pile of rubbish and steamy dog poop.) I definitely did NOT regret this decision when upgrading my PC recently - re-instal

The suggestion of "warning" AI (which has been brought up many times before) isn't meant to change the motives of AI (it doesn't change a human's objectives when the AI "warns" them either), but merely to force them to make some stronger efforts to conceal their plans better. That has benefits (force them to keep their distance) and problems (when they do attack it may be a bigger surprise), but I don't think this requires a change in how the AI prioritizes their real objectives - simpl
If they've bundled the expansions into a single-install cd like I think they have with the new 'version', yes it's worth it just to drop the dependency on having to install three separate things...
