Regarding the tech trees, redesign. Ditch the unique tech trees for each race. It's just not worth the effort. Maybe a few unique technologies for each race is fine, but not a whole tree. Besides the insanity it creates when 'tech trading' and such, I just don't see the point in adding that complexity, it doesn't make the game world any more interesting. Seriously, Stardock needs to consider taking more Master of Orion II features and cloning them to GCIII, much improved of course. Optional tactical combat for starters. OR, make a tactical combat expansion package. I agree that the game already has "civilized" ways of ending without using aggression (self defense of course but that's not the same), but I thought that was obvious. [e digicons]:P[/e]

Another thing to add - I have a shortcut to an application that runs windowed which also moves. It doesn't move on startup, and I'm having trouble consistently reproducing it. But I did notice a flicker effect when it moved once. I think this may have something to do with a DeskScapes 3 animated wallpaper re-starting after exiting from a fullscreen application. Not sure how it picks which shortcut to move but it's always one used very recently.</p

Ahh yes, the carrier debate. Bottom line here - what "the developer(s)" want is not relevant . Stardock is a business which must cater to the wishes of it's customers. Since obviously a large number of customers would like these features, whether developers "feel" it adds to the game no longer matters. Obviously it's too late for GCII, but if it's left out of GCIII it would be a mistake. The concept is in probably half or more of all scifi series

Raaaah this sucks, it's too annoying.. I can't take it... [e digicons]X([/e] Heh. No really-- is there any kind of logging we can view/enable or something so we can provide better debug information? This is Fences PRO in my case, if that matters.

I do agree about setting up the build queue. I was going to say it would be nice if it could be automated via AI somehow, but if you're going to do that much work you might as well redesign the entire "social production" concept. I always thought it was strange the way planets are divided up by tiles, so you end up with buildings on water or other weird looking end results. I'd rather see the whole "building tile" concept dropped entirely and replaced with something a little
In our current economical system this would more likely be something like: Better technology = more productivity = less work = less employment = less money = more poverty
You've identified a possible logical conclusion of many "mainstream" economists (called Keynesian) who focus on unimportant things such as "full employment" rather than concepts like maximum efficiency, or full production.</

Moosetek13 - I should have clarified this from the start, but in the example I gave I was also thinking of a rule other than not colonizing anything not in your home system - no invasions of foreign systems at all. This is a huge disadvantage in a large enough galaxy, even if you have 5 Q25 planets-- can that compete against hundreds of random quality planets, even with the head start and other factors? How am I doing the Q changes? Just a small custom mod. I don't p

Yes! I have this same problem with Win 7 ultimate. It always happens to me with fullscreen games, but not one game in particular. Another weird aspect - with certain games, the icons move to certain other fences. i.e. One icon always wants to move to a certain fence, and another always moves to a different fence-- they always move to the same fence consistently. I've seen the other bug where an icon isn't visible too (on rename?) but I have yet to identify how

Okay, first of all: haha, that's funny. But entertaining the (non-existent) possibility of this, you have some problems with your conclusions! And yes, maybe you are a freak [e digicons]:D[/e] , but harmless freaks aren't so bad. :)
It seems unlikely that the government dedicated to protecting us would reveal such a destabilizing secret to the military, never mind to the general public.
Why would it desta

...you mod the game in certain ways to give yourself an advantage (say, give yourself a bunch of high quality planets in your home system), but then you also adopt unenforced "house rules" such as - not colonizing any planets other than the ones in your home system? Depending on map size (obviously) this could still result in a pretty tough game. Does anyone else try doing things like this with "house rules" for yourself to even up the odds? If so what type of

Oh, wait till the first time you get 'spy spammed', or check out all the great enhancements to diplomacy after TWO expansions. (LOL, none at all!) Or... pay attention to all the new United Planets features. (LOL, nope, nothing there either!) But at least we get map editors, right? Not really, the editor sucks. It's buggy as hell and barely comes close to reflecting what you actually see in game. I mean crap, I got notepad, I could have used that as an XML editor when I was in 2nd grade
Hi, I do not have the ToA expansion but had a brief chance to play it last weekend and I must say I see most of the changes as a move backwards. I'm sure I've missed some changes, and maybe did not have enough time to appreciate those that I did notice, so I'd be very interesting in hearing what exactly in your opinion makes it a better game over GalCiv gold.Things I did notice:- New tech trees - they seem to limit the number of techs each Civ has, e.g. Terrans can only use beam weapons,

Can't get intel if you're too busy defending yourself from lame spy spam. Unless you use lame AI-metagaming tactics to avoid the spy spam, that is. So yeah, just stay a weakling (that's why it works on levels where the AI cheats I guess?), and remember that the AI won't mess with you at all if you aren't rated so high in certain areas. Then you can spy all you want, to find out just HOW much more powerful than you they are. lol
Getting rid of agents entirely is indeed forcing others to play the way you want. A toggle to switch between the systems just isn't going to happen, so stop dreaming. From what I understand of it, too much of it is hard coded into the game, otherwise you'd be seeing mods involving espionage changes. Putting two entirely separate systems in doesn't seem like it's worth the time, but maybe one of the devs will correct me on that.Just my opinion and all, but your description of what you want

I build some early on, and they aren't too expensive, but then the AI throws more and more spaceships at me, and the ones I'm force

Best guess deciphering your coded message: You have to set your game resolution ridiculously high, until everything is sized kinda goofy looking, and then you can read it? Who cares, once you know what it says you can ignore it.

Forced to play what my idea of the game is? Don't be a dummy. I'm asking for a TOGGLE so people aren't forced into anything. There's plenty of other people around here that liked the old espionage better. Like I've said before, using the sliders, intel should decay with time and there should be a counter-intel slider to make enemy intel decay faster (or even prevent them from getting it in the first place). Working upgrade for the old system, and you can 'defend' against it. As for an a
