To respond to the black hole issue, there are a lot of things 'wrong' with the game. A black hole would not have planets around it. Nebulae would not appear within a star system (quite the opposite, really), Pulsars wouldn't have anything habitable around them, random maps would have to make all ice planets farther than volcanic planets, etc., etc., etc. It all really comes down to game mechanics and playability. No arguement. Especially if it's shown on Prime Time or on certain Cable Channels, it's not like it can't be predicted and thus children navigated away from it. Btw, thinking about it, I can see why Gunships should be only starbase/carrier units. If you have them available for everything, then regular fighters would be pretty pointless. One source of offensive and one source of defensive gunships works.
