Quoting Scoutdog, reply 26 That's what I'm here for. AI is a big field, and there's still a lot of stuff I have no clue about, but I try to do my part the best I can to counter a lot of the public ignorance about it. Unfortunately, a lot of the information is tied up intimately with some complex math and doesn't simplify well, but I'll try my best. It does not help either that what you are attempting to create or

Banned because the years may come and go, but an embarrassingly awkward forum conversation is forever.
Banned for whatever. I don't think either of us has any idea what this conversation is actually about. [e digicons];P[/e]
I read a bit on the wikipedia pages for the 'Dijkstras algorithm', 'gradient descent' and 'neural networks' and that level of math made my head hurt. I thought you were in junior high a few years back when you said you were 14 but it seems you're in university. True?
Yup. Trying for a Phd in computer science. Banned because there is nothing complex about it. Rather, I am alarmed by your degree of single and/or simple mindedness.
Banned because you can take that one to the bank. "Banned for that [the 3 pieces I had] went over your head, didn't it?" You, too are banned because, while I first learned that particular expression from some detective novel in 8th grade, I could also easily have deduced that by "pieces" you were referring to women because you never refer to anything but (well, OK, I think you mentioned bankers/politicians at some point).
There is not, actually, a computer in existence that can completely "solve" chess- that is, tree out every possible move both it and the human make. This does not, however, mean that the computers are bad at playing the game- just that they don't play PERFECTLY. However, my money is on chess being solved in the next 10 years. Yes, a TBS game is much more complicated, and that ten-year mark considers computers a tiny bit bigger than what you could feasibly put in your house, but with the exceptio
Banned for expecting the battery, battery cover, and phone to work when completely compartmentalized.
Banned for my father. His constant refrain is "I dropped my phone, and it broke into three pieces, so now it won't work." I'm always willing to talk him through putting the pieces (battery, battery cover, and phone) back together, but I don't get what he thinks is so magical about that particular number.
Banned because this (Algebraic numbers on the complex plane colored by degree. (red=1, green=2, blue=3, yellow=4) is why I love mathematics.
Banned for kicking the knickers.
Banned for a zip-up suit. That actually sounds like a very good idea, especially since the tie will cover up whatever is holding it together anyway. Might make a hideous, hideous garment almost... comfortable.
Banned for filing suit.
Banned because gender identity means sexual orientation, not biological sex. Not offended, common mistake.
Banned for being an anagram of... well, nothing much, really. Good username selection, I have to say.
Banned because I thought lacking a clearly-defined gender identity stopped being a crime in the 1950s. Although the incessant boob jokes are getting kind of old.
Mostly I was curious about what technology you meant by "the technology is very new" and is being used in ad recommenders, etc. Have there been recent strides in machine learning? Banned for pictorial perfection.
Well, I'm not quite sure what you mean by purpose-written versus general, mainly. All AIs are purpose-written in the sense that they are created to solve a problem with certain parameters (usually, we describe an AI problem in the form of what the goal is, what actions the computer can take, what information is available to it, and a few special features of the environment), but game AIs as a general rule cannot learn, and do not conduct exhaustive searches of state spaces to find their g
As opposed to a game-strategy AI? Well, as I said the technology is still very new, but it's already being used very effectively in a lot of large-database applications: ad recommenders, voice recognition, self-driving vehicles, and so forth. I imagine that we'll start seeing true AI first in MMOs and other online-based games- there, they have a truly massive number of training samples to learn from.
As a Computer Science Phd-track, I've gotten into similar conversations with fellow students, professors, and postgrads a fair number of times, and we've actually come up with a few tentative answers. The first item to note is that, while they are called the same thing, game AIs and actual artificial intelligence are really only loosely related to each other. Game AIs are a lot more deterministic, and are usually supplied with all of the instructions they are ex

Banned for one pun and the ban is done does not equate to "galore".
