Mason, you crack me up! Is "C" religious? I'd be interested to know if she was. She seems like she might be. "its a piece of cloth" ~ It makes me wonder who thought of tieing that stupid piece of cloth around your neck like that.
Alright, fine, I'll concede the point. You've got some good arguments for the word "religion" being applicable to atheists. However, that's using the word so broadly that... well, what's the point? What does it even mean anymore? To create a completely fictionalized (I think?) example, what if the word "apple" could be broadly interpreted to mean any sort of fruit? Sure, most people would use it for the original purpose,

Leauki, I liked your Sim City analogy. That's a good game. Interesting yet it couldn't hold my attention for long hours. I liked Sim City 2000, but there was only so much I could take (for 2000 the scenarios were really good) then it was the eventual dooms day of disasters break out. It would be nice if they added a zombie disasters (grant it you couldn't see it break out) or 4 horseman of the Apocalpyse disaster. Sorry this has nothing to do the current

On a final note, why is it necessary for the entire population to be insured? If people in the U.S would realize is that what is more important than everyone getting insured is that if we had a better system of preventive medicine/health. This would drastically cut down cost because usually illnesses/diseases ect ect tend to get more expensive to treat in the later stages as that they go undetected compared to if they are caught earlier.<a class="l" onmousedown="return rwt(this,'','','r
I haven't had much interaction with the health care system in the US yet (and would like to keep it that way!), so I can't really make any meaningful comparison between a "government" run healthcare system and a private insurance system. The one system I have experience with is the French one (not really a perfect example of how to run things, but an useful source of data nonetheless). It's kind of an hybrid system: basic healthcare is pro
Yeah, it's in Webster, but Webster covers all the bases, and that isn't the usage that the word "religion" usually recieves in regular discourse, meaning that when applied to atheistic philosophies it's carrying rhetorical baggage that no longer applies with such a broad definition.
Take it up with webster's if you feel that they have incorrectly defined a word. Mason, let us know if you get any of that pig roast and how the cowboy church goes/is like tomorrow. Sounds interesting. How many times do you go across the States? In one year, about how many miles do you cover? "No way to cross over from one side to the other. And yet, even with this, it was a head-on collision." This shows how feeble we are and how short life can be. I haven't checked out your youtube videos. I have in my head how you 'should' s

I'll look at definition 2 a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices. Does Atheism have a set belief? Yes (oh wait are you going to try to be all sly and say aren't they disbelieving in believing the

Atheism can be a religion as I stated in the above post. It would be defined better as a system of beliefs. Then what is a system of beliefs essentially a religion. I may have my belief set, but that is defined by my upbringing, culture , etc. We perceive things to be universally true due to our perception of things, albeit limited. I still ask though...are they true? Are what we see and observe, etc...really true, or is it...merely what we perceive to be true. T

It's all relative to a person's perception.Granted, there may be a general view/perception of the world that is common with people, but when I look around and observe and see that what WE as a culture and/or country view as truth and right and so on....is viewed as wrong. I agree with what Mason said. We act surprised by the fact that politicians are spending out of control.
