Hrm - so I have a blog now... what of it? I know I have my own opinions, I post them often enough to be sure of that - but... why a blog? What exactly am I going to put in here? I don't, personally, believe in ranting, I'm not undergoing any particular projects at the moment, and right now py personal life (while really nobody else's business,) isn't exactly anything to scream about either (Today: Did more job hunting. Yay. Tomorrow: Sent out resumes, spoke with connections. Yay.

I can't say I agree Theo. Apple moving out of the hardware business and then rewriting ('port' tends to imply lack of quality to me. ^.^) OSX over to the x86/Intel platform would only be the death of it. That's just it. They hit mainstream popularity, they changed their sound to be just like all the other pseudo-metal bands out there. But who really knows why? Maybe they -really- wanted to change like this? Pressure from the record labels? Actually, though I rarely care, I think those numbers are going to be interesting to watch in the future. Mostly I'm interested in the server numbers. While it's still a largely insignificant percentage, I think Apple's going to find its share in the server market rising more and more. Will it surpass Windows or Linux? No, probably not - but I could forsee it surpassing say, the various flavours of BSD.

While the article's well written - and reasonably impartial, the primary thing I get from Byron's article posted on ActiveWin is his ignorance in many areas of XP. Drag & Drop for instance.. XP works just fine (in both Firebird and MSIE,) for dragging and dropping images onto your desktop. Assuming you want to save that image - he doesn't bother saying if he's saving it or making it his background. If he means setting that image as your background, well, we /do/ have RMBs in Windows.

I would imagine it's simply Apples' lack of experience doing a skinning engine/skinned app in Windows, and knowing how to optimize it the best. It /is/ much quicker than the Quicktime player - so, give 'em time! Or, incentive to write more Win apps, and they'll get better! (But on the bright side - if you look at iTunes.exe in Resource Hacker, you see Apple was kind enough to supply us with icons all the way up to 128x128! Personally, I find simply bringing I want to check up to the front to be easier and far more effective (no having to try to peer through a transparent window,) anyway. I hope you're right about WinFS - because from what little I've read about it so far, there's little call for any sort of enthusiasm on my part about it. Thanks for the lowdown on WinFX though - it's nice to know there's another aspect of Longhorn (the biggest is the god-awful unusable interface,) that's going to wind up causing me to most likely keep away from it. :/

A great concept - and I'd really like to see a usable version of it. 0.2.0.0 crashes on both of my systems upon excecution, with a .NET framework error message. The older 0.1.4 beta will load - but when you bring the menu up, the screen goes black (aside from the menu.) If I turn on transparency it freezes the entire system when it tries to draw the menu. Oddly, at the default sizes, the first ring of the menu takes up nearly 3/4 of my notebook's 1024x768 screen. Oy.
