awesome, I have been looking for this all day, my game just arrived today. I can't install impulse, it says I need internet explorer :( I am not going to put microsoft garbage on my pc just to update a game. Kudos to releasing direct patches, I just hope this works on the english version. Well, it didnt work. Can I download a patch on a different pc through impulse and copy it over? Otherwise this game is going straight back.

I really hope you are upgrading your fleet cap. A lot of new players upgrade their cap way too late. They prefer the increased income because there is no 'noticable' need for a big fleet. 100 cap is pretty crappy especially since your cap ship takes 50 of that. The more ships you have the less losses you will take.

I prefer to go with the main battleship first. That is just because I like big beefy cap ships and spend a couple extra resources on a small colonyship rather than have 50 fleetcap taken up by an oversized coloniser. But it depends on the race, some of the colonyships have really nice abilities.

[quote who="WJC3688" reply="23" id="1896508"] Except that metal extractors provide more and more benefit the longer they exist. This is not the case with research, or combat research atleast. 1 level of Hull Reinforcement always gives +6% max hull points and +3% repair rate, no matter when you research it. You do not receive additional benefit for researching it earlier. If you're 45 minutes into the game, and you only researched Hull Reinforcement 5 minutes ago,

Yup, upgrades are permanent, that 1 extra ship you just got only helps you until it explodes. Basically a 10% increase in hull will make your ships last longer which will ultimately mean less resources spent replacing them and the further you go into the game the less difference a couple of ships will make. It all depends on your playstle, your opponents playstyle and the way the game is going. I am not suggesting dumping everything into upgrading 5 cobolts or anything but taking the

I just played my first game as Vasari and decided to try the returning armada strategy. It was a 1v1 small random map vs hard agressor who turned out to be vasari as well. I built 1 war lab to get my missile frigate thingy and then rushed straight to 8 other labs for RA. I was getting my ass handed to me for quite a while because I had very little resources left for ship building. I think I actually got lucky as I managed to keep JUST enough planets to have 9 logistics slots. Once I had retur

From what I can tell the trade income is subject to your allegiance % just like tax and asteroid income. This means that the further away from your home planet you are the less trade ports will do for you. I normally move as much of my factories/labs and culture stuff as far forward as I can and stuff my other planets with trade ports and refineries.

It may be just me but smaller maps with fewer AI seems harder than massive 10player FFA maps. You are forced to fight contiously instead of letting the AI bash the shit out of each other while you turtle to bits, research all your stuff and then just rampage later on. I have lost a few 1v1 vs hard AI in my time because of crap positioning and bad luck but I have yet to lose a huge FFA against the AI. So I suppose my tip would be to just keep playing small random maps until you get better at i

Yeah, i normally just shove a few into my fleet if I have the cap, they only take 4 cap i believe so having some wont significantly cripple your fleet even if their effect is minimal. As for the Hoshiko I do tend to keep a good few of those with my fleets although I use them mainly for repairing rather than demobots. I had a large fleet once supported by 15 hoshiko, 15 flakfrigates and 5 or so cielos and I was amazed at how much the overall effectiveness of my fleet increased.

You paid for their game, you are a legitimate customer. Although it is your fault you lost the cd key I do not think you should have to pay again just because of some copyprotection. Someone suggested using a keygen. That is what I would do.

Exactly, you start off by buying games but as they become more and more troublesome just to be able to utilise their product and the companies seem to become more reluctant to believe you are a customer and not just a pirate you will lose faith in them. Hmm, edit not working. Anyway. Would just like to point out that Radiohead released their new album for free on their website. There were more 'illegal' downloads from filesharing websites than their website indicating that pirates are not motivated by their greed or refusal to pay for something. They are doing it out of principle or to make a statement. If the entire world pirated a DRM game and they ended up selling nothing do you really think EA would just up the severity of their protecti

Any of those checks that REFUSE to install the game because it doesnt meet minimum specs are terrible. I remember a friend tried to install black and white which needed 256mb I think, his windows read his memory as 254mb for some reason and the game refused to install. I am pretty sure the game would have ran with the 2mb less ram. They should just have a warning or something like every other game and let you install and play the game anyway.
