@Sel - we forgot our very own forumite Candido...as well as Doci and Slackah (just remembered), probably many more. Perhaps needs its own topic elsewhere although I'm not sure to what end. Predictions on 1.04 at this point? Beta is a promising sign. I'm hoping it will re-vivify things. Still, isn't the peak players on ICO still held by Rebellion?

Ah, sorry in the lobby - well yes, but that's not really an indicator of much in itself - there's not much point in being in the lobby anyway other than afking until a game comes up you want to join. To add to your list, I've seen the following off the top of my head play semi-regularly: Shadow86 King-Kaing Higgy Zoomers Jezeus Nayru Player Slayer So around 50 active skilled players is probably about right. Then there's us
The thing I don't like at the moment is that there aren't many options. There is pretty much one optimal way of playing and only playing with AR, TR, or VL (VR would be included if they weren't banned online). I sometimes see players try a little innovation but it's really slight. It's kind of disappointing more really top players don't try experimenting more with some of the underpowered races and underused techs - maybe we'll se
At the time of writing this there were: 2 people in the lobby (i was one) 0 game available The majority of games seem to be friends only ones!
Chris, regardless of your concerns about balance (and I also think balance needs work), you're totally exaggerating the state of online play. I've never seen it drop below 50-60 people and peaks
Here is an entertaining one showing that you can still win even if one of your allies scuttles his HW at the start of the game by mistake(lol??) and showing that a level 5 Eradica, while a really tough motha, isn't invincible and really shouldn't be sent in alone as a one man army. http://www.2shared.com/file/uGqTqqQd/AutoRecord-08181655.html

I definitely have to learn when to retreat, but it’s hard as I have difficulty evaluating if I will win a battle by looking at the pieces on the battefield.
In case Greg wasn't clear, the reason it is better is solely because you can mass them quickly all at once without any need to jump th
Finally watched this - kind of silly 1v1 map really - literally a race to farm pirates for Titan levels with an hour of trade ports beforehand. It's hard to say if some of Aquia's research tech choices had much serious strategic purpose or not since when you have such a massive economy in a long stalemate like that you can pretty much afford to buy anything (eg. the searching for artifacts, divination, etc.). The fast expansion in the early game was good to watch though. Be interested
I agree balance isn't that bad relative to many RTS releases and titles I've played. There is also general consensus on what needs to be fixed. The only downsides are pretty minimal communication between devs and playerbase right now and that patches have been a little slow in coming lately. Doing a beta for the next patch starting week is a great idea though, and hopefully they'll be open to tweaking values as well as possible bugs depending on the feedback. I agree this is an im
I was waiting for someone to ask that actually. And no, what I saw him doing could be done by AR just the same as well (just the 1800 odd credits for the temple research and structure). The difference is just that Advent Loyalists have a few culture specific techs to encourage going the culture route a little earlier - nothing amazing though. AR are even the ones who get cheaper temples down the tech tree. AL need to be buffed somewhere along the culture tree more - whether it's the deliv
It takes 7 civ/culture (can't remember Advent exact name atm) labs to get Wail of the Sacrificed and really it's only full pop Ice, Terran, and Desert planets you need to worry about. In a normal game, unless the Advent player is in eco spot, he is not likely to be able to get it until late game. This is because he will've needed a fleet and at least 4 mil labs + Titan in order to compete and stay in the game up to that point. So by late game, frigate heavy fleets are already beco
The replays save automatically if you have that checked in your options. You can find them in your Documents-IronClad Games-Sins-Autorecord Multiplayer by default. But no worries if you don't. By the way, in my post above I meant time for 1 mentee, not time for just 1 game lol. We can try a 2v2 vs. Hard AI to start maybe. Then a 1v1. Eco and ship composition should easily show up in those...
Well, if anyone from that game is reading this and you didn't have a mini-dump after our game yesterday and you would be so kind as to upload it, would be awesome: Quar, Higgy, Dwish, Dino, Red Ruby, ? Replays are the only time I relax and zoom in and watch the pretty lightshows and space-tastic explosions, especially good during epic, dramatic games like this was...
I've added ExFleet and will try and get some games with him - probably 1 is all I have time for at the moment. Hopefully more mentors will step forward? Exfleet - do you have any saved games you'd be able to upload and link? Just so I can see what you're doing in games at the moment? I'll have time this Friday night and on the weekend to play - and you're PST too so should be easy to meet up.
So I haven't had any MDs in game for ages but I've had a few where it MDs right at the Victory screen when you press continue. The game registers as a win but the replay is fubared and won't load. Except one time it did load but nothing happened - everyone just sat not building anything with credits increasing. Anyone else have any luck ever saving a replay from this kind of MD? Was an epic game so I'm kinda sad...
Whichever you prefer - sign up is in the Multiplayer section though - there's only 2 mentors and 1 mentee so far.
Exfleet - please add how you'd rate your skill level and what you're interested in learning from a mentor. Opening game? All races? Economy? All of the above? Cheers.
Mentor/Mentee Multiplayer Matches (MMMM...) So I had this idea. Which I totally stole from other MP game communities. But it's a good idea worth stealing. The MP community in Sins is like that grass you see pushing up out of the concrete. It wasn't really supposed to be there, but it's kind of stubbornly persisted and waxed and waned, sometimes sprayed with weed killer of bad balance or neglect and sometimes bouyed up
I'm creating a thread in the MP section on this but since not everyone visits there as often, wanted to post this little announcement here to check it out if you are interested in this idea at all.
Thanks for the upload and for the game summary - will watch later. I think 1v1 is a really underappreciated game mode in Sins (to state the obvious), whereas it is usually the standard for balance and skill on most other RTS.
All of that having been said, if your goal is to make a map that will be played in online multiplayer PvP ("real Sins games"), don't bother. Most people who play PvP would prefer to play on single star maps and/or wouldn't take the effort required to add your map to their Sins game and custom maps (made in Galaxy Forge) do not auto-download.
So ironic that most will happily waste 15 minutes squabbling, afk-ing, or troll
Quoting DirtySanchezz, reply 3 To an extent, it's kind of like a chicken-and-the-egg situation or a Catch-22. More like self-fulfilling prophecy... Bottomline: devs don't care about MP...if you want to improve MP, ask for balance changes, that's the most you can ever hope for.... The time to make changes to MP like automatch was with the development of Rebellion. It was marketed with some vague bullet points about improved multi-player features so naturally many people were asking if it would have automatch. The fact that it didn't turned some people off from buying the game. There were 500+ playing online at release - if it had automatch, there was the chance that more would've stayed and more come and it could've got rolling more from there. That was its
Out eco any other eco spot and feed resources to your teammates in need. This is the point of it - to buff your teammates and enable them to win their fights. Letting your teammates fend for themselves is not a good idea because they may be in a 2v1 situation and will likely be knocked out before you get a chance to build up a fleet yourself. Later on, once you have a healthy economy running, start building your own fleet. You're in a unique position to build whatever fleet com
