1) For example, the initial betas of Elemental are going to require the user to be on the Internet to play. The reason is that the computer AI won't be inside the game itself but instead be implemented as AI players on the Impulse game cloud that we're building. The AI work won't just be in how they play the game but how they behave -- in the lobby and elsewhere with the goal to make them feel l
I don't think we will need to add AI as a friend. I mean, I don't think the server based AI will be in the final... Maybe we will in beta 2 (the networking beta where things like friends and such I imagine might be introduced) but I'm pretty sure until then they are just going to join every game that is created.
there will be sever based in the final brad says so
I, without a doubt, avoid online play (against "strangers") for just this reason. For me, this appears to be a symptom of most/all RTS-type games. There becomes an obvious "best strategy" that early players learn that can maximize their situations to the wonderment of any newbie player. As others have stated, there's not much fun when you've spent 10 minutes setting up your little empire and exploring only to find a fleet of 100

It's inevitable. Just a mana cost and cooldown hit would've been fine, with a duration added to Mist instead of more emphasis on Bite.
thing is without hard figures, how can any us say if it is harsh or not

there are no such things as nukes, however all factions can seige planets and TEC have a superweapon called the novalith cannon that can bombard planets from across the solar system it just needs 7 weapons labs to build

I haven't been playing against locked teams, but I 've seen some fairly agressive ai attacks (mixed hard and mormal ai) in my rescent single star huge game. After i managed to wipe out one faction early on with a starbase rush as vasari, I had to defend off the combined fleets of four other factions at similar time intervals, however fully upgraded starbases wiped them out and now im in the process of mopping up with kostura cannons

Have you got castling working? oops see you are thinking bout that edit: keep at it, looks good you could try to make it so the citadels are only vulnerable when they are in check
This is exactly the backstabbing I don’t want to see. When you are having Friendly/Peaceful/Neutral status with player B, you can declare your “Conflict” by attacking B’s unit or the Diplomatic screen, anytime you want. This will give player B, 5 to 10 turns to prevent his towns from being captured. Whether 5-10 turn is enough or too long is debatable or subject to play testing, but it
What is that called in MMO's, Rez sickness? Where if you get ganked after reviving, the player killing you receives 0 Exp and 0 Gold. That is the only kind of system I could see being implemented... where a timer is put on you from the killing player, or some similiar kind of system. Perhaps something more progressive... such as when a player kills you a 2nd time, they get less Exp and less gold from the kill... 3rd time, even
