Bug help in Galactic Civilizations II GalCiv2 Forums

The game ran smoothly, until yesterday... Every time now, when I start a new sandbox (no metaverse) game in TA (ultimate edition, kalypso dist. euro.), I either win on the very first turn (alliance victory), or everybody is in team with me. I have just finished my second GalCiv II real sandbox playthrough. I played on small and medium universe as Terrans against four and nine opponents and with the normal and tough difficulty setting, repectively. I have just obtained the Ultimate Edition, and I have never played GalCiv before, though I am familiar with turn based strategy games. Where should I start in order to learn the basics? Sandbox game on DL, DA or TA? Thanks
