Well just to chime in with my overly ridiculous method of beating this mission. First try I only colonized 4 planets, but DL's took an AI planet, so I restarted with another idea in mind. Second time, I colonized every planet I could, and traded my AI allies for theirs (except their homeworld) if I could. Since the DL's have no defenses initially, I made only Tiny-hulled ships with 1 attack, and with only 1 maintence cost. Pretty soon, every planet could make a ship every 1 or
In Twilight I've gone over to a mixed method where I build both labs and factories, often specialize planets based on bonus production squares or colonization event bonuses, and tend to optimize the sliders each turn.
I do the same thing in ToA as well, except in the very beginning. I change it during early-mid colony rush, then I always have the social production slider at 0, with the military and research slider set at 50/50 (or w/e, usually tech dependent to make sur
Probably not a bug but the level was impossibly difficult and if it wasn't for the fact that the Dread lords were not actively trying to annihilate all other civs, there was no chance to beat them. Even as I conquered their last planet, they had probably 10 times my military power
I agree that level is crazy hard, your AI friends help you not 1 single bit, I finally colonized almost every planet myself, and started spitting out cheap little 1 attack star fury's by the h

Another thing to keep in mind, when playing on tougher difficulties, is to trade your influence points to the AI for gold, techs, ships, whatever you want. I usually do for the first couple years, then stop after that, once my economy is up and running. But the magic number for influence points is 999 or lower. You can easily get many many many techs the first couple years for incredibly cheap amount of IP's. Same with gold, you can take almost all the AI's BC for influence points, and reap i

Also, an actual warship of any type (tiny, small, medium, large, huge) will only have 1 hp if you upgrade it as well (for the duration of the time it takes for the upgrade to be complete). So it's a good idea to make sure no enemies are nearby before you do it. Of course, the AI LOVES to upgrade all their ships no matter where they are. I often see AI upgrades that take over 150 turns to complete. Even if you are at war with them, they will upgrade their ships right next to your fleet

After completing that mission, the game skipped missions 4 and 5, and threw me straight to mission 6 'Apocalypse'. I didn't even realize it did it until I checke
7. New ship classes? Tiny - Scout class; Small - Fighter class; Medium - Cruiser class; Large - Destroyer class, Huge - Battleship class.
If they brought classes into the mix, they would have to assign each class with specific strengths and weaknesses. Many other games have this concept, and I hope they add it in. For example, spearman get a defensive bonus again
The other factor is kinda stupid, it's the aesthetics For some reasons, I don't like the looks of missiles, I prefer beam weapons or mass drivers, though I'm probably the only one to do it like that...
Beam weapons, imo, are the coolest looking. Plus, depending on how many actual weapons are on a ship, it shows that many beams being fired. For mass drivers and for missle weapons, it may do the same thing, but it is not as noticable. What I really want to see is a Time Travel Ship... say you are getting pounded and are about to be defeated near the end game (after 8 years of playing 'game time'), just in time you are able to research the 'time travel' tech. You pump out an 'UBER time-travel capable mega battle cruiser' just in time before your last planet is about to be taken. Then you have it go 5 years back in time, have to replay more than half the game again, and you destroy everyone with that single ship, and

When playing the Alterians (which I usually do) and going the 'good' route, they get some great 'special' defenses, such as dynamic shields, arnorian armor, and a similar one before point defense, which give some good overall defense values. Sticking 1 of each on your ships is usually enough to counter almost anything in mid game. Going evil, as I did with the Terrans in my current game, they don't have anything of the sort, so I'm pretty much stacking all of 1 armor type on. Although
Slightly more than a dozen units for each race rather than "design your own."
They have about a dozen pre-designed ships anyone can use. But the Design your Own ship feature has to be one of the coolest damn things I've ever seen. It's almost more fun than playing the game itself, making some big bad boy ship and then watch it in action obliterate everything in it's path! That's the real reason why the AI usually sucks in combat, because the 'predesigned ships'

Well the point I was thinking of was in the hopes that for GC3 they might implement the tech tree in a slightly different way to make sure the AI's actually research weapons and defenses. Or just implement a better AI researching code. Because now, in my suicidal game, the Thalans have not researched a single weapon or defense tech, and the game is 2.5 years in. I gave them laser 1 and some cheap armor piece just to help them out, but they still aren't researching anything higher, so I had th
I've been toying with the idea of doing some kind of mod around this idea, since you can specify more than one prerequisite for a tech (or a component, and I believe even for an improvement).
I must say, that would be a mega-mod, and would require a ton of balancing... since all the tech trees are mostly somewhat different in ToA. The way the tree is, I don't think it would show 'lines' going from certain tech's to other tech's, but if it did show what the prerequisite

Well, in reference to influence, influence should be based upon your empire as a whole, including population, trade, military might, manufacturing might, research ability, diplomatic ability, economic power, and even galactic 'wonders' should add a very small portion to influence. After all, these combined things are where a Civ's 'influence' comes from. This way, the Drengin won't planet flip from you setting up one embassy. There military might will keep their influence at a reasona
Thousands of ships are not entirely out of the question, but really they ought to be dead by that point in time.
It was one of those strange situations where the Drengin were in the very bottom right corner of the map, and there was a huge expanse of space in between them and everyone else, So they hung around until pretty much the end of the game.

I really hope they change the way the whole tech tree works, so that way you must research certain 'basic' techs before being able to get other very advanced techs (even if they are in a completely different category). Because if you research only weapons the whole game, you will eventually have Black Hole Eruptors, now the thing is, you understand how black holes work so well, you can make a weapon out of them, but you still don't know how to make a farm. They should add some

I was at war with the Drengin at the time, but there was either hundreds if not a thousand of those 2 attack corvettes. 1 in almost every single sector on the map. Of course, that just ends up being target practice really, but I did lose a several transports and constructors that I

Trade your influence points for all the AI Civ's cash. Unless you have more than 50% of total influence to make sure your vote wins the UP, otherwise IP's are pretty worthless. On my suicidal game, I raked in over 30000 BC in 1 turn from trading IP, of course, I don't do that too often, as it's quite time consuming.

My question is, what is 'popularity'? It is on the stats screen that shows the bar graphs. It can't be approval, but may include approval indirectly. Not that it matters to me much, just curious. The AI always seems to have a high approval, and mine is always so-so. Unless popularity is the same as happiness, just worded different.

They should get rid of the superpowerful weapons at the end of the tree, those do unbalance the game. Or they may have added them in since that is really end-game, and they figure it makes it easier to just smoke everyone left on the map.
