There is a difference between perfect and not polished I'm not disputing that. My point is that having expectations for elemental's polish a week after release based on what galciv's polish was several years after release is... unreasonable.
It's in no worse shape than Empire: Total War, Hearts of Iron III, Star Trek Online, Age of Empires III, or Operation Flashpoint when they were released. " I disagree with him on that. Some of those games (Empire: TW) were more polished at release, particularly in how they delivered themselves to the player. Star Trek Online is a joke ... I will add something. Most people will agree the game is not as polished as it could be ATM. There is no reason to BUY it now, honestly. If you want to play a game - and this game was not out what would you do? Do that. Hold off. If and when the game gets better purchase it. Unless the money burns a hole in your pocket... is there a reason to throw it at an underdeveloped game that has mega potential but is not likely to shine for another month or two
oh boy no wonder I was having some problems with cities too close to the enemy.
In fact, you aren't better off keeping it for 30 days. You are better off getting a refund (if you don't like the game, of course) and then if you feel the game has improved, buy it 30 days later. True, but when you have a company sending out major patches this often you really might be better of keeping it and just seeing whats changed or not. You know this game wont be in the bargain bin for atleast a yea
No, but I'd think that given their pretty long experience with 4x games they'd have a pretty solid handle on the base mechanics and how to mesh them together. Elemental shows none of that. Just because you made a successful 4x game before does not mean all 4x games you make from there on will be perfect on the first try.
For the most part, can we assume ... logic would tell us they should be similar in polish and playability and AI ? So why is it not? You think it logical that a game freshly released a week ago should be similar in polish to a game which was polished over two installments, several expansions, and countless patches?
Yes I do. I dont expect it to be perfect,
For the record, I bought the game last night and played several hours of it. NO CRASHES. NONE. Of course, i heard not to ALT-TAB and I have not ALT-TAB ... so no crashes for E: WoM (yet).
This is what I do not understand ... from Elemental. (This is straight from the WIKI:) Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords (commonly GalCiv II or GalCiv2 ) is a 4X turn-based strategy <a class="mw" title="Computer gam
I'm seeing a trend here... I bet this is going to be #1 on the FAQ for new players. I appreciate trying something different but it's really counter-intuitive to people who've played CIV games.
I think we're beginning to take the forum's permissiveness too far. The reviews Elemental is getting are C's--not F's. The forums is allowing negative feedback and criticism, but this is starting to devolve into a slamfest. We shouldn't be abusing Stardock's grace on their own board. I have played MoM, MOO, MOO II, Civs, Apha Centauri, ... etc... Is Elemental: War of Magic a Spiritual Heir to the Master of Magic lineage? The simple answer is... NOT YET. It probably will be when it gets polished up some and new features and techs and spells added in. Or when they do more patches.
SD is doing a good job post release, that has always been their very best focus area. Great ideas in the article as well arstal.
I will give SD credit for not giving up. However, why am I paying for a beta? Why was the game released this early. I have heard reports that SD rushed the release of the game by.... um... 2 days... because retailers broke the street date. So, it has been 4 c
By the time Multiplayer opens up, there will be three people playing it?
Its a toss up. I have not decided yet if its a loss or not. Its fun but not. It is not hard but it can be. It has problems and problems. I have made many noob mistakes, I was expecting, for instance, that I needed to research a technology to build on the fertile land and did not understand why at level 3, I still could not do it while the enemy cities were all level 3 or 4 or 5 and all mine were stuck at 1 with fertile lands. Personally, I was shocked... there ar
How to get the people back: Get the game more polish. Have longer build queues. More options, more technologies. Make more magic... magical. Fix the AI. The most important thing to do is.... Fire people at Stardock and hire gamers that like to MOD and know what they are doing.
OMG i LOL and soiled my pants.
LOL play on extreme. Maybe I should be playing on Novice. How many turns did this happen to you? Were you able to grow yor city into level 2? Did you start your starting city near a fertile land?
Quoting Bodea, reply 8 hmmm unfortunate. I just created a sovereign with no magical spellbooks. I had a plan to comncertrate on this sovereign as a physical hero, who later develops a magical affinity. Guess I better scrap that idea then. Unless there are other spellbooks you can unlock? Yup, you can open up the summon, combat and restoration spell books by researching the magic tree
Magic research seems to have significantly fewer tech levels than warfare for instance. Why not just add them in?
My thought of the matter, is they are not needed. I would simply add more technologies to the list than add something that people may already have. If you can simply train and research your books, why spend valuable points early on in getting them when you will get them soon enough?
I am hoping that we can have either technologies (or something) that unlocks them or maybe achievements. At the very least a paid DLC that gives us these items?
So if we had a large map and 1 faction it can take forever to find someone... if we had a small map with all the factions we find them faster? (whisltes) However, large map with everyone on it, how long does it take on average?
I think the downside to city sprawl is having units around to defend them all. Having to build the defense boosting buildings in each one does cost, and i think walls cost upkeep. atm the monster AI isn't aggressive enough to warrant worrying about this, but it will be, and i think that should solve this.
I would imagine if you are smart you have the outer cities more protected than inner cities.&nbs
