I'll assume you're playing single-player only at this point. Start by playing on a small map; either a random generated one or something like Point Blank. Play as TEC. On a small map you will only have one or two computer opponets. Set them to Easy or whatever the lowest difficulty setting is. Opening strat generally, for me anyways is: 1) Build Crystal extractors 2) Build Capital Ship factory 3) Queue up a capital ship (usually a Kol or

I originally heard a lot of buzz about Sins and went and bought it; fell in love with it. It's easy to get into even without reading the manual. The tooltips are great and it's not hard to figure stuff out after a little trial and error and a few games. I had been an exclusively World of Warcraft player for three years and hardly played anything else, but when I finally left WoW and picked up Sins it filled the void. I was impressed with the design, lack of micro-management, zoom capabilities
The problem with your argument is that the online multiplayer "pros" and many of the online multiplayer players who are merely above average would steamroll over the single player "pros" if they ever played against each other.
On the other hand there was Myth (it's sequel was even more amazing), a slow paced, no resources, purely commanding your units game. There was micromanagement but your forces only consisted of about 30 units at best. You commanded them as an army, having your archers nowhere near your thralls or soldiers was crazy, each had their role. The game didn't have build orders, it didn't need shortcut keys to switch to different base buildings, rushing was unli

I'm pretty new to this game but really loving it and starting to get the hang of things and strategies. Currently I'm playing the campaign through the Twilight interface. I'm on the Achilles' Heel mission of the Dread Lords campaign and I'm having some difficulties with it. Hoping someone can help. I've tried it about 3 times now and can't figure out how to win. I've tried the mission on Cakewalk and Normal (I put it to Normal thinking my teammates would come alive and do something in the gam
Egon, thanks a ton for the information. Very helpful stuff! Galacticdoom, I also finished the 1st through the 4th missions without any skipping. I'm now on the 5th mission: Achilles' Heel.
Thanks for the info guys!
2) What combat simulator???
Perhaps I'm naming it wrong. I'm thinking of the screen where you can watch the space battles between your ships and the enemies. And you can replay, go forward, backward...
Couple of questions: 1) What do I need to build starbases? Seems like I was able to do it once in a sandbox game (but don't remember how) but in the Dread Lords campaign I cannot figure out how to do it. 2) How do you enter the combat simulator during a battle? Thanks
I just bought the game plus the expansions as well and have been playing for a week or so. My advice would be to play a Cakewalk game in the Dread Lords interface first; or at least part of one to get the feel of things. Then start playing from the Twilight interface; and yes you can play the full campaign from the Twilight interface. A good starter place is the Beginner's Guide that can be found here: https://forums.galciv2.com/104908
Hi there, newbie here with a few questions. I have read the Beginner's Strategy guide and some AARs (with pictures; the one at Galciv2Guide.com is good). However, I can't find anything on the campaigns except the through Wiki site and that only gives the same info that you get in the game. By the way, I'm playing the campaign through the Twilight of the Arnor interface and I'm on the first mission 'An Unexpected Visitor'. The mission objectives state that we need to take the 3 planets
Thanks folks for all the input. I think I'm pretty well convinced I'll get the game along with its expansions. I've been looking for a package deal and I see that Stardock has all three downloadable for about $60. However, I see that Amazon.com has a release date of an 'Ultimate Edition' that will be released mid-February that they have listed for $39.99. Of course, I never trust Amazon's release dates but hopefully it'll be out soon. Thanks again for all the comments. Also, I tried t
Hey there, got a question for Sins and GalCivII owners. Currently I own and play Sins and Civilization 4 (with Beyond the Sword expansion). Civ4 sort of takes care of the turn based empire building, trade and diplomatic strategy gaming while Sins gives me that real-time strategy only on a much larger scale gaming type of fix. I've heard and read a lot about GalCivII and its expansions and have seen them win many awards and so on (and I have some extra Best Buy gift cards from Christmas that a

This is the game that brought me back to Real Time Strategy (I've played almost nothing but World of Warcraft the last 3 years). 1)Fantastically easy resource management 2)No need to micromanage anything but I have the option to do so if I want 3)Graphically very pleasing 4)Many civil elements involved away from warmongering 5)Moves at a slow enough pace that I can manage my empire without feeling pressured 6)The camera maneuvering is outstandin

And every single one of them would be playable at the very same time. This is not possible with EA games. Furthermore, you can install and uninstall SoaSE on the same computer over and over again until you die, without using the CD key once. And of course it's playable every single
