Hey guys and gals, sorry its taken me so long to introduce myself here, been busy working on 1.1 content for you all. I am the 'less-exciting-than-Derek-Paxton' new Associate Producer on Elemental, Toby Sarnelle. :) For a little quick background on me: I have been at Stardock for a year now, however, I was just recently moved over to the games team. Those of you who have been around here for the last year may have seen my posts in the Elemental Army fo

I played Battleforge for a couple months off and on and I really enjoyed it, particularly the co-op/PvE content. If you like Magic cards (or other CCG's) and RTS's then I would say its worth trying out for sure.

also keep in mind that there are multiple people awarding points, not everyone sees every submission so they are not always judged based on each other. Plus the scoring rubric is subjective and will change from person to person. We are trying to make it fair but it can be tough :)

Also, quick question: I suck at drawing (though I plan on doing some fanart myself), so is it ok to commission art for the contest, like say, from a friend who isn't interested themselves but are willing to help me out?
yes this is fine so long as your friend is ok with it. if you watch the videos they were edited and commentated videos of him explaining a bunch of the game as it stands in beta 2. A ton of content/work went into it and thus he got a lot of points. Yes, if you make an hour long tutorial/walkthrough of Beta 2 with tons of information you will get a lot of points too :)

I would say you are probably maxing out (or getting close to at least) the top end of what you could expect to get from a forum post on our own forums with this... which is a way of saying: great job! :) Up to you if you want to post more of it, its probably not going to peak at much higher point wise then this got you though. Its more of a category (on our own forums esp) limit then quality/quantity of work.
(I will say that another concern about doing this now is that it puts pressure on them for an August release that didn't exist before. If it turns out they're wrong and the game isn't ready for that release, do they have to push it anyway because the hype created by the army has forced the issue?)
No, this will not happen. The game will come out when Brad decides its ready. Period.

Worth noting that things that are old and dugg will not get points as the way Digg works its only relevant for articles that are new (its kind of like a 'news' site so no one will ever see anything older unless digging through archives). Also we will try and go through and double check old wishlists if there are errors. If you notice something feel free to mention it and we can fix it. Plus the how to play scoring rules are updated as we change stuf

Oh and don't even try to submit your Diggs, cause they'll get rejected out of hand, even if you only do exactly as they say. Which is digg an article by Island Dog. Why am I p

there isn't a way to un-sign up, however, the Army will only be going until release and then the icons will be removed (we could find a way to keep them on there I'm sure for those that want them to stick around as just an image, but for the most part they will be removed).
I think people should get points for Forums Activity as well. Even if it's only 1 point per post. Not to mention I was plugging Elemental on Gamespot and a few other sites way before the "Elemental Army" started, and I don't seem to be able to go back and get "retroactive points" for things I did months ago. Honestly, I'm concerned with "Winning". I already bought and paid for my copy and the upgrade to limited edition. Having a spare wo

Depends on what you mean by "win" Do I want to be in the top ten and get one of the grand prizes? Yes, very much so Does it matter what place I am in the top ten? No, not really. First, tenth, seventh, I don't care. Although I will tell you that I am quite shocked I'm doing so well. I know it's still very early in the competition

I think that if you look at the submissions so far they haven't been just baseless talking up of an unknown product. They have been forwarding of information put out already about Elemental to people that may not have otherwise seen it. Also because of what the prizes entail (copies of the game you are talking about) I think it implicitly shows that the people saying good things about Elemental for the Army are behind what they say as they are doing it to get copies of Elemental.<

we are looking into past entries that dont fit our new Digg requirements (to keep everyone on even footing going forward) along with online videos specifically. We have adjusted the points you can get from online videos as well so that we don't have to just negate all those types of submissions out right but can instead adjust their values. Our initial idea with online videos were people would make their own video not repost videos others made so we have had to adjust scoring.

well the big thing I would say to combat a lot of the negative feelings you have is that what's done is not done. The mod tool improvements were made expressly so we can go back and check up on some submissions that we may feel are not valid. Look for point totals to come down for people who have inflated them soon. also as a side note the fan art thing is probably in the wrong category but I'm pretty sure its a model being made for a Lord of the Rings based mod of Element
Kestral, would it be possible to tie that back into the Elemental forum, so that we can access it from folk's icons here?
yep, that is planned for today :) you will still have to login to see their profile stuff though still looking into why some emails seem to be eaten by the server :(

71 Replies 172,995 Views

pre ordering will get you into the beta in the next wave. Buying the game for a friend will get your friend a copy of Elemental :D no prizes or anything. I'm working on more mod tools to make it less likely for repeat posts to be accepted. Also we can always go back and change scores if we notice something being reported more than once.

to reiterate what Island Dog said, if people actually sign up for the army there is no difference from signing up for Impulse, you will not be added to spam lists or anything. You could opt in for Impulse mailers but that's about it. For the referral emails those emails are all throw away. The only place they will ever be used in our system is to verify who referred whom. I'm trying to say, don't worry about referring friends and having them get spammed, their
