I'd just ignore OMG Spooky, some people aren't worth the effort
"The game doesn't change if the name changes" Again, fallacious argument Strawman
They're not strawmen, since that's exactly what he said - if the game had been called something else, he "would have had no issues with it and probably would of purchased [it]". To me that suggests that had the name been something else he wouldn't have disliked it. Issues with false expectations/marketing wouldn't af
The only problem I see is, how many roughly equal dollar amount spending bills come up at any given time?
I still think it'd be feasible to have plenty of them within a similar range (they wouldn't need to be exactly equal, but could be in bands of reasonably similar sizes), and some things wouldn't have to be cut completely either, but only proportionately. Also, not every option would need to be clear cut waste - for example you could have a $1m cut to some niche p
public opinion will limit European governments’ ability to create or participate in these institutions. Remember, building a super state requires one of two things: a war to determine who is in charge or political unanimity to forge a treaty
Or in the case of Europe, neither! They've adopted a gradual process of giving the EU (European governm

A good idea but it would've been nice to see them set up a separate website not obviously linked to any one political party. It'd also help make the results of it carry much more weight (although either way they'd probably be ignored). Still a good idea how they've done it though. My main criticism (which isn't that big of one) is that the voting options ought to be similar in value - having a 1m cut alongside a 1bn cut isn't that helpful in terms of choice - I might feel that proportionately

I can vaguely recall Brad referencing some figures wrt whether it was impulse or D2D that was 2nd behind steam - maybe if you can dig up that post in these forums it might have something in it? (I don't think it had an actual document, but it was based on something I seem to recall). It was quite a while ago though (maybe 1-2 years) so the situation will likely have changed a bit since then.

Can't see it working very well in the UK - their broadband network is patchy at best, meaning this service would be limited to only a fairly small number of households. Even if it was to dramatically improve, I still don't see people paying a monthly subscription for OnLive ontop of a monthly subscription to BT for internet, on top of payments to 'purchase' games on the service (unless they just have a monthly subscription with access to all games)
I think they should have hid the statistics until close though. It affects behaviour seeing the averages like that, shaming people into paying a more reasonable amount
Isn't that exactly why they shouldn't have hidden then? Afterall the aim was to get as much money from people as possible, not to just give the bundle away.
Valve is a US company- US law would apply
No, because Valve sells its products around the world. If Valve was a US company, with it's servers in the US, selling products only to people in the US, then US law would apply. As it is though, other countries laws apply as well as the US's.
You can't actually believe that? I mean really.... People pirate because they can, and people complain about DRM because it makes the perfect scapegoat.
I complain about DRM because it is stupid and punishes me. I've never pirated a single game, but it drives me mad that I get punished for buying a game legally with an inferior product while the pirates get to play a far superior version for free. It's insane, and will only

This is very worrying for me. I like steam, and I've bought plenty of games on it, but it's quickly becoming clear that they're intent on forcing their competitors out of the market with exclusivity deals. The end result of this will be less choice and higher prices for us - the key turning point (which may already have been reached) will be when instead of steam having to offer things to developers/publishers to get their titles on to steam, the roles are reversed and steam are offered thing
Is microsoft really a monopoly?
Yes, by all but the strictest definitions.
where is the innovation?
They spend a fortune on innovation/R&D every year. Their products have improved significantly over the years, as mentioned by others. Innovation can be improving an existing product, it doesn't have to mean creating a completely new one.
I'd argue that if you're spending hours each day playing on WoW, there's already something wrong with you *before* you buy the glowing pony. People who are willing to shell out the extra cash get an advantage. It forces you to buy something (on top of the game, the expansions, and the mon

What's the issue? If you're spending hours each day playing on WoW, then $25 for something that will enhance your experience may well be decent value. I personally wouldn't pay it (unless I had huge amounts of money to spend) but I can see why others might. I don't get all the WoW hate though. It's a great game - just because you might not like that sort of a game doesn't mean you should hate the game. There are plenty of worthier candidates for hate such as the various DRM schemes us

For a while I'd use 3 review sites, gamespy, ign and gamespot. After a while I realised they weren't very reliable and switched to an average of critics (while reading a few of the reviews in more detail). I've now become even more disillusioned with reviews and I rely on user ratings as much as the professional ones. As to the rating system to use, you need to be able to distinguish between decent-very good games, and a 3 star system doesn't allow that. To get around the '0-59% = don

Although the main $5 offer has ended it's being offered by impulse for $5 if you buy the expansion warband. I haven't played warband but mount and blade has proved one of the best purchases I've made in terms of value of money. So long as you're not put off by the lack of a story (i.e. you make your own story rather than having a specific path laid out for you) it'll prove a very entertaining game. The combat system in it is IMO amazing, and it's open to lots of different styles of play. The
What would happen if Elemental came out on OnLive and on OnLive only? We wouldn't be able to make Mods because we wouldn't have any of the game's files on our systems. No Files = No Way to Change those Files. Of course it also means no way to copy those files and pass them around on the internet for free, which is the companies goal, but the side effect kills Modding and a bunch of other things too. If only the company needs to purchase amazing hardware rather than every single consumer in order to enjoy the game then it's possible to have much more advanced hardware while still being cost effective, since the cost of that hardware will be spread out over many consumers. Meanwhile the competition among different service providers ensures that they're always looking to improve their hardware so they can offer even better gaming experiences and pull in users. Ultimately if it

I dread cloud gaming. All it seems to be is an excuse for ridiculously draconian DRM with virtually no benefit. It's a minor inconvenience for me to copy save game files from one machine to another, and at the moment that seems to be the only actual benefit of cloud gaming.
I think one of the best examples of avoiding taxes was recently displayed in Great Britain. There they are going to slap a large tax increase on everyone making over 200,000 pounds a year who also works in banking (I do not pretend to understand the British system). The banks have offered to move all its top execs outside the country. So not only will GB not get the revenue from the new tax, but they will lose a lot of revenue those rich guys are pumping into t
The point is though, as an American, you should have the right to chose whether you wnat insurance or not. The consequences are your responisibility
But that's not the case if you then get shielded from the consequences of not having insurance by being guaranteed (emergency) healthcare even if you can't pay for it. In such a situation someone who chooses not to be insured is effectively choosing to have other people pay for their healthcare, which in principle seem
