I think for your first cap you could pick just about anything but maybe Dunov and get away with it. Akkan is indeed a great colonizer, though I do just as well with a Kol to kill stuff and Protev to come along and colonize (also of note, Protev can capture extractors at roid belts, Akkan can't). It's kind of up to you what support you want for your capitals, but if you're not using Kol's flak ability you might want some flak frigs for dealing with fighters. Generally speakin

I don't consider myself a DRM idealogue, but like a lot of people I've been burned by defective DRM schemes basically giving me a glorified rental, or worse yet an unplayable game. Why buy it if I can't use it? It seems anymore I have to do Internet research to find out if the game I'm interested in playing is something that I could, in fact, actually be able to play. I do think there's a light at the end of the tunnel though. At the risk of starting a political disc

GG for telling it how it is, particularly point 3. It's refreshing to come across a company that 'gets it' when it comes to piracy--Bethesda is about the only other one that comes to mind. It's a shame so many publishers are run by manage-by-numbers MBAs who have no clue how anything actually works, but I have a feeling a lot of them will be getting their comeuppance before long. Poor economies have a habit of cleaning out bad ideas...

I'm still realtively new to Sins so can't speak for Vasari and Advent, but my thoughts on the TEC specials: Flak is actually fairly good if youre getting mobbed by fighters, though maybe it could use slightly more range and a bit more intelligent autocast (seems to shoot it off as soon as one squadron is in range even if there's 20 more right behind them). It might make more sense to put it on one of the other ships though (swap Magnetize and Flak maybe?) so Kol can focus on DDi

As I alluded to in another thread, how will support be handled if one of the DDs goes out of business? Say for example I go out and buy a GOO game on Steam. If I have a problem, chances are I'll send my gripes to Steam's support system--they might send me to the developer or publisher, but all too often people just go with whomever they bought the same from. Now say Steam--my DD of choice in this example--goes out of business and their website just directs people t

Generally speaking I like the idea of moving DRM away from the one-way street, but like other internet activation schemes I have some serious concerns about what might happen if one of the participants goes belly up. Are buyers SOL if the server gets unplugged? What happens if a third-party developer bails and people blame Stardock/Impluse for their games no longer being supported? What about if something really bad happens to the internet somed

The Impulse thing worries me too. I finally got around to picking Sins up the other day, and one of the reasons I went with it is so I don't have to worry about getting shut out by phone-home DRM (I learned my lesson from the Gears PC port, never pay full price for a glorified rental...). I agree with dolynick, Ironclad should offer manual patch downloads to registered users who want an alternative to Impulse.
