Anyone who's played this oldschool game will know its a classic top down scrolling shooter. I'm guessing some of you (like me :/ ) didn't realize it was now freeware aswell, so revisit the old days when games focused more on fun than profit! http://members.iinet.net.au/~vannevar/tyrian/downloads.html
Piracy is just another word for stealing.

PS Consumer sampling can be done by...borrowing from friends.
Piracy involves the sharing of items between "friends" as opposed to making profit from it (hence why its file-sharing). You're contradicting yourself. Large publishers and distributors have by and large controlled the market. A demo by default doesn't give an accurate representation of the game you are going to be purchasing (otherwise

I was the same Annatar, could never get into MC2, the UI and controls were poor. MC1 was just superb in every respect. Stardock, i petition you to get the MC1 code from the now defunkt Microprose...and mod it for Impulse gaming play!

At first glance i might say yes, however the symptoms arn't the same. I noticed in your thread your upload was 13KB/s, the game itself can use between 17 and 20 so i think your consistently high ping is due to simply not having enough bandwidth. This issue is specifically when everything is fine, then suddenly freezes (spikes), then returns to normal. I'd suggest you download a bandwidth monitor (such as www.bwmonitor.com ), run demigod in

These are the voyages of the starship USS PC, its mission, to seek out new possibilities and problems, to boldly go where no PC has gone before... *Insert theme tune* Forget all the crap and effort i've been through and lets get down to results, good old fashioned data! This is an issue with Demigod -and- Dawn of War 2, as soon as you reach a "critical mass" of players (usually 6, so a 3v3) the spiking occurs. I've run around in circles trying to identify the cause, the game, the connections, the players, the PC, the ISP etc etc. My current avenue of approach is that because the game is p2p and uses TCP/UDP as soon as you transfer to 5 other people, your ISP is flagging you as a filesharer and hitting you with a DoS attack (which then prevents you from sendi

Update time... I have advanced in my network troubleshooting level (believe i am at GODLIKE now :P ), using Wireshark to packetsniff all traffic. Only problem is i don't know what any of this means :/ Anyone with prior network brain experience care to look it over?

40KB/s. I've discovered the problem, my ISP (Thats virgin media remember) seems to block all TCP traffic that isn't over port 80. www.pingplotter.com Search for WinPcap, a something or other thats required to run traceroutes using TCP rather than ICMP or UDP. Run a trace to google using TCP packets, result returns fine. Change the port to anything other than port 80...

Are you braindead? I clearly stated prior to the spiking, the connection is perfect, low ping, zero packet loss. The packet loss is a RESULT of the upload saturation (signal cannot get through, thus signal cannot get back, thus packet loss). The error occurs for approximately 4 seconds....too short a time to run either ping or tracert through the command prompt and gain any useful results. Go and watch this. http://www.youtu

Bittorrent is just one form of p2p protocol used under the umbrella "p2p". Riddle me this noodle, why do i experience the -exact- same issue (upload saturation, resulting in lag/drop) in both Demigod -AND- Dawn of War 2? The only similarity between both games....p2p utilization. If you didn't tl;dr you'd realize i said "IF" you experience these issues. I never claimed they blocked the game (the simple fact i get into the game...only to see it flounder around prove

I've had an engineer out today (totally un-needed, but thats what you get from incompetent Tech Support), he said they had a Memo sometime back concerning VM and p2p...which they DO NOT support (what that means exactly, i am not sure...he wouldn't go into details). Needless to say, if you are experiencing the "lag spikes" as seen in other posts you have two options...change provider, or get a refund for the game.

Won't accomplish much i'm afraid, during normal (non-gaming) ping/tracert's will return standard results. During the spikes they will return nothing (or fails) for the first 2 hops maybe 3 before the connection stabilizes again and the rest will appear normal. It happens so quickly that they arn't capable of giving a proper readout. Luckily pingplotter can overcome that with constant pings/tracerts (which is pretty much all it is, just graphical). These are the last 4 traces done (fir

Life steal and (perhaps) criticals don't stack, it randomly selects one or the other to use. For example, having an 8% and 12% life steal items will result in you stealing either 8 OR 12, not 20 (assuming health of 100). I've never seen a critical stack either, though the percentage chance as opposed to the persistence of life steal means its harder to verify.
Are you all using Vista and a wireless connection? There's a known issue where Vista polls for new wireless networks at a certain interval causing lag spikes in online games. There's a little app called Vista Anti Lag that corrects the issue while it's running. It's free, might be worth a whirl... http://vista-anti-lag.software.informer.com/
Hisss! Boo! You mentioned in your post that socket handling was a primary cause of "flakey connections". When you said that were you referring simply to people dropping, or the "persistent saturation/lag spikes" people like myself are experiencing?

Must say there doesn't appear to be anything strange there, obviously its hard to tell because you where having packet loss issues before and after the game which makes it harder to examine. Did you have any "stuttering" during that game? (what was the game size, number of players etc). If you did, right click the chart at the bottom, set it to the lowest time interval and scroll to when you started the game. Try double clicking on the graph whenever you see the red bars. If there&nbs

Loderunner, Boulderdash oh the memories. Whatever happened to games that just went on and on random level after random level. Until you died of course! On Dawn of War 2 (another p2p game), a lot people with this exact same problem are also...dun dun DUN! Virgin Media customers. I'm using the Standard Ambit Modem, no router. I've done all i can from my end with monitoring the connection...Virgin profess they don't use any sort of NAT/TCP filtering, but i've no way to verify that. I'll be crossing my fingers that its a problem specifically with Demigod (thus fixable), because if it is the ISP at fault...its a refund time as i

Its a specific and reproducable error with connections that use Peer 2 Peer technology in games. Situation is as follows.... Game Loads (all fine). Join the Room with other players (all fine). Game Begins (consistent packet loss and ping spikes). Quit Game (connection fine again). This picture illustrates what i mean.... http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e101/
In this time, the game freezes (for everyone) and usually the players quit the game in anger, not before asking me not so politely to stop downloading p0rn. And it's not my connection, because i play a lot of other games online, and don't have this weird problem. I'm waiting for the proxies to be set up, maybe it will work then. If not, i don't know what i'll do...
Ah the old pr0n
