Still possible to update fresh retail DVD install of Galactic Civilizations 2 Ultimate Edition? in Galactic Civilizations II Stardock Forums

I'm currently re-installing games on a new PC, and having some trouble with Galactic Civilizations II Ultimate Edition. I have the retail DVD, and after installing from that, I am unable to login to my Stardock account for the purpose of downloading updates. This game's update process is the only thing that's having this problem; other ways of accessing my Stardock account (e.g. using my web browser to post this message) work fine. Newbie question - Farm strategy in Game Talk GalCiv2 Forums

I ran into severe approval rating trouble when the populations of some planets reached ~20b, so I'm assuming that I should be aiming for a lower population cap (15b - 16b); which means: Never build a farm on the homeworld. On a colony, build the highest level of farm on one normal cell, or the lowest level of farm on one +300% food cell. Never build a farm on a +100% food cell, because no upgrade level will hit the population cap that I'm aiming for.

Planet surface images shouldn't be chosen from a limited library of about 5 images per planet type. For each planet, procedurally generate some terrain and render it into a texture. Improve the correlation between what the terrain of a cell looks like on the map, the close up view of the terrain, the terrain type name, and the usability of the cell.
