One more point I'd like to make. In 1995 it would be a testement to the greatness of living in America that even an unskilled worker can support themselves, and put a little bit of money in the bank. In 2007, living in America means that an unskilled worker *might* be able to get by, but would likely sink further and further as they become unable to renew their license and registration, and save $0.

I will raise some SERIOUS question to your numbers!!!! First of all, an appartment up where you live might be $470....where I live, you'd be hard pressed to find an apparement in someone's house for less than $650! $120 car payment???? If you managed to find a reliable car for $10,000, and you took a FIVE YEAR loan with ZERO % interest...your payment would be $166! You have included none of the maintenance included in owning a car. (if you did the oi
Yea, so imagine if your background is a series of "bolts of electricity", like the orange one in the video. As your computer becomes idle, the bolts begin to meld with the windows on the screen....or on top of them...or between them. I thought about doing something like this with DesktopX a WHILE back, and now this rekindles that thought....however I can't help but think that vbScript would be completely inefficient, CPU-wise, for such a thing. It's also difficult, with scr
You know, I always thought that the animated wallpaper is a dumb idea. But I just came up with something that would make it good. I know that I personally never see my wallpaper, and if I do, it's only a little bit of wallpaper on the edges of the screen. If you could make the "engine" recognize when the computer is idle, and begin to move the items in the wall paper "above" the windows on your screen, now THAT would be cool.....a screen saver that is part of your desktop!
Maxthon drank the google-juice and ruined their product. http://www.betanews.com/article/Google_Investing_in_Maxthon_Browser/1176236856 They made their "Favorites" system incompatible with base IE and in turn lost most of their loyal users.
I'm in. I think I'm going to make a new character though, which I cannot do since I'm at work. I will post the character info tonight.
OK so if not submitting a game is worth 0 points, and submitting a game failure is -1 points, then nobody will submit a failed game.
- I personally think that by making a SEPERATE character, that is not in an empire, shows that you're making a commitmnet to the league-type game style, and not just goofing around. I think that's essential for a league based on honor and trust that people are following the rules. - I like the scoring system. Using just the built-in point system, favors people who can drag their game out extra hours just to score more points. - What is the scoring if someone doesnt post a
If this drags on for more than another day or two then I will lay out a couple different rules scenarios and get a "vote".
the Samsung i730 is a much better phone than the iPhone or Treo. I'm surprised it's never gotten the press it deserves. 5 years with AT&T? WOW! In 2 years Windows Mobile phones will all be running 800x480 resolution and use broadband internet. Then there's the other little features called "thousands of applications by 3rd parties". 3rd party apps are the best thing to happen to a mobile phone. Want to track your bowling average, manage your diet plan, read your RSS feeds,
I think it's obvious that Neilo and Mumblefratz are the most passionate about this endevour. So I nominate them as commissioner and co-commissioner. Do you think you two could communicate together private (on IM or voice or somethign) and flush out a set of rules? You could give a couple days for comments/revisions as well, but I think everyone here is 'ready to go' with whatever you come up with....even if it goes through changes over time. Again, I have web-space/fo
I will say something else on this matter: Democracies dont work well online. Ghostwes, if you decide to do this, it should be you and one or two other people who make the rules. Taking feedback is fine as long as it's not 10 people trying to always say "i dont like xyz rule, change it". I offer full admin access to a forum I made for my AAR contest (that didnt take off) for this legaue if you need it. https://www.galciv.geekstorm.com/forum
I think that people are over-thinking this. Keep it simple, you can easily get lost in the details, especially when something is starting up. Here's how I see it: First decide if the legaue will be point-based or win-based...or a combination of both. Going strictly on points isnt nessecarily good as it would favor someone who could devote 10 hours to drag out the game-play as long as possible. For my description I will use win-based: ----------------------
Not to sound like a kook, but if we let the archaic media types and other organizations, diminish the growing abilities and legitimacy of the Internet, then we have lost. Every time the media paradigm shifts the previous media moguls try to marginalize the up and coming front runner. Ifyou DONT want the media types and other organization embrace the medium....you might as well get into Ham Radio as a hobby.
I think the reason it's such an issue is because it's so easily exploited. People can record it with ease. Thats why the RIAA wants money. Without attaching a fee to it, its kind of a way to legalize copying music to other people. I could setup an "internet radio station" and stream exactly the songs my friends want to rip to MP3. "No i'm not sharing music....I'm....running and internet radio station!" When you think about it, there's nothing stopping someone fr
Wow I guess no one read the part of the post where Frogboy asked for comments on why people change their theme infrequently.
The reason I almost never change my skin is because of several reasons. 1. There arent many good ones 2. Once I get things to look a way I like....why waste time changing it over and over to something I probably wont like? 3. Now that i'm using vista, who needs skins? none of them look as good (smooth, natural and un-obstrusive) as Aero. (written from work PC....XP Windows Classic skin)
Do you generally go into a game knowing what kind of victory you're aiming for or do you wait and see how it plays out? If an unfortunate series of events or bad decisions happens early on, do you restart or try to recover? What does a research or economic treaty do? If I want my military starbases to shoot back when they get hit do I research weapons or space mining? How on earth do you have time to research enough to keep up with the AI? They always seem to
I'd love to see a humanoid rogue-type set. Could be actually human. Think rouge-trader....unshaven...tough-looking....always looking to make a profit...keeping good relations with all races (unless sosmone pays them to do otherwise) Thats how I generally play the game, so would be cool to have pictures to match.
That's certainly a good list of games, Becephalus (though I have never heard of Deadlock 2) Deadlock 2 was a VERY cool game!!! Anyone who played it will know this line: "please peruse the following...."
- Customizable key-controls. You cant change the CTRL functions, or change the keys used to scroll the screen, etc - Simplified Ship building. While i LOVE th ship-building capabilities, eventually it gets combersome and confusing to look at DOZENS of available ships. Most "classic" game, are more simple. and i have no ideas on how tofix it while keeping the great flexibility.
I'd like to hear if anyone has had success with a slash-and-burn strategy. I've only destroyed a colony once, when I knew I couldn't hold it at all and wanted to do some significant damage to an opponent. There have been many times i've destroyed colonies. A couple times it was because I conqured a planet in the borders of an AI. My influence level was very high and I didnt want to piss him off. (I also didnt want to trade him the planet, cause I
oops, I didnt read your post fully. You said it excludes betas. Usually when I'm looking for information on an update, its for a newly released beta. However it links to the list of production histroy, which does me no good.
Just FYI, the history button in SDC almost never works for me. It always links to a dev journal that is many months old.
oh but I should say it only ENHANCES the attack or defense. If your resource starbase has Zero missle defense, it will still have zero. but if you add +5 missle defense, and then put a military starbase with a +1 bonus, then the resource starbase will have 6 missle defense.
