I generally tailor my defenses to my opponents. I might not be the best person for advice since I usually play pretty peaceful games and when I do war, I generally only war with 1 or 2 opponents at a time. So I build my ships with about half of it's payload being used for the most damaging weapons I can, and I load up on defenses for that enemy's ships with the other half. The only exception is if the enemy's ship defenses are primarily against my weapons. Then I put a lot of defenses

Here's how I do it. I'll have to start with how I manage my planets. Its diferrent than you but maybe it will give you some ideas. Firstly, the only planets I usually specialize are my main planet and the ones with the Capitol buildings. - Main planet becomes focused on production, and usually one research building so that I can get some techs reasonably early. - The first larger planet i colonize (size 11-15) usually becomes focused on technology, and eventually t

I'm reading this stuff about Research capitols with THOUSANDS of research points. Maybe I don't understand, but if I have a plaent with 10,000 RP's, i would have a technological victory in no time.

I notice a lot more random good/neutral/evil events when I enable creativity. A lot more of the choices where I can get improved planet quality or starship bonus etc. I also tend to get more of the "you've discovered a ranger class ship" type events. I can't say this for sure, it MIGHT be a coincidence. I used to play with Creativity point allocated for EVERY game. Ever since I've been trying some different strategies and point allotments, I notice less of those events.

I think that your argument is coming from the perspective that you had to work really hard to get the knowledge you have and it's not fair that someone else can get it for free. I feel the same way sometimes. I think now though that people shouldn't have to know how their car works to drive it. They should know its functions and it's maintenance, and just drive. It's the same with PCs. If TweakVista can improve performance without having to pop the hood and dig

I've looked at it. Turns out that I already have this program. It's called Start --> Control Panel. This program is very.....simpleton. All the stuff like "I use my computer mostly for games", as a means of tweaking system settings is just silly. It does not encourage user knowledge at all. It's mostly just duplicating a lot of stuff already built into Vista to make it "easy" to find stuff, when the users should really be LEARNING where those features are and adapting to the n

This trend is EXTREMELY bad in the MMO genre. They build up an MMORPG for 2 or 3 years before it comes out. What happens by then is that players EXPECT all the features that have been hyped. Then when things dont work right (balance issues, bugs, useless skills, etc) people get pissed off. The other thing is that when you hype something for so long, other games can creep in and steal your thunder (and your customers) even if the quality of the product is not as good. "Surpr

I wasnt going to reply to this cause I dont actually upload much. But not many people responded so..... There's a feature I'd like to see, might be implemented on the upload page (or could be done after upload). It would be nice to mark a "parent style" somehow. So that if I find a skin that I like, I cant find all the others that were done with the same "style".

2008? I'd rather if the newsletter contained updated information about the Vista/2007 timeline: https://www.stardock.com/newsitem.asp?id=942 Or maybe a timeline for finnishing the ThinkDesk programs that I paid for two years ago. I know its more fun to talk about what i'm "going to pay for this coming year", but ... you know.

I agree that deep down, we realize that wearing Gap clothes doesnt make you pretty. But that's deep down. Subliminally, and on the surface we DO believe it...which is why advertising works. If the girl who did the Fat Rant video was on a commercial for Levi's ..... a lot less people would buy their jeans.

My answer is that you will never know if someone on JoeUser (or any internet site) is good or bad.....because you don't actually know them. Online people only present one persona of themselves. No matter how much they SAY they are no different online than in real life (or how much they believe it is true), it's not at all the same thing, and you cannot judge someone online.

Whatever, this has always been done, just with airbrushing instead of computers. Advertising is about being visually pleasing to the largest number of people possible. Now to do so you could spend lots of time and money auditioning girls (the actual girls who throw up and starve themselves) until you find someone who has the exact type of beauty that you want, or you can edit someone up. Your article seems to say that it's a BAD THING for women to strive to take be

While I don't have anything against performing sports leagues in school....... I think the money would be better spent teaching a more lowest-common-denominator physical education. I think that the whold focus of PE becomes the sports program.....people who do not participate in sports are usually allowed to "skate by" doing minimal phsyical activity, which they shy away from anyway for not being as athletic as another. It would be a better idea to teach about the body...

This is a pretty interesting idea. Trucker-life always seems to have a certain romantic quality to people who dont do it: open road...new things every day, etc. (If you're not married it's probably a whole different level!) If you own that rig, maybe put some kind of swivel-mount on the dashboard. You could feed the video out to a laptop to see where you're filming. Could even have a "notch" that you know is pointed right at your face. W

I think some things would be far too complicated, even for a wiki. It would turn into a monster very quickly. Imagine how big the DesktopX section would get when it comes to writing code....parsing HTML...etc etc If you do create one it should be a very limited set of publishers to begin with.

A few points of interest from me: 1.) Restrict access to view techs, ships and planets from the diplomacy screen - making them visible only through spies and/or good relations. Never offer techs the AI determine are strategic regardless of relations. 2.) Don't provide help during negotiations by turning your offer green/red. Provide two or three tries before having the AI break off negotiations. Offer the color coding to be enabled once 'high' level of inf

yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes I desperately want to turn UAC back on but I do NOT want a warning to stop my whole system just because I go into display settings. I dont know my microsoft did not add a "dont prompt me for this again" option....even if only for administrator accounts.

Yea I kind of doubt it to. Also given the market of people who DO presentations, they are likely not the type who want to bother with any peformance issue. Another interesting thing is: WHERE do you do most presentations? Well...in conference rooms.....not all of which have internet access. Even still, I dont think many people would want to risk a $20,000 sale because the Techie-Guy at the Ramada Inn tripped over the DSL cable. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/wc/smiles/Smile.g

For a moment i thought that if SD included "spyware" in their apps that reported back the skin in user that you could really indicate a true popularity. But then I thought of all the Theme/Skins I use that are hacked-up versions. For example my Icon Theme contains icons from at least 4 IPThemes.
