I'm looking for some internet resource that has comprehensive info on this game. You know, how to design ships, how to run your economy, all that jazz. Really anything and everything about the game. I'm not a beginner, I'm interested in the information so I have a larger base of knowledge and a better understanding of game mechanics to work from. The wiki is kinda sparse, and GameFAQS has one faq, so I'm kinda stuck. Any help would be appreciated.

[quote who="Korialstrasz" reply="116" id="3125004"]How does increasing the resources and rebuild time based upon level do nothing to address the issue? The issue is fielding a high-level titan nearly immediately after it dies. If you increase it's build time and resource cost per level the titan has, it's alot worse of a blow to a high-level titan, and not so much for a low-level one. The point is to make a titan dying mean something, and making it cost more and take longer would "pun
[quote who="Korialstrasz" reply="110" id="3124846"]Could always go with the WarCraft 3 approach to heroes. Every time the hero levels up, it costs more resources (I believe 10-20% more) and increases the time to bring it back. So if you have a level 5 titan it costs 50% more of the basic cost and take 50% longer to build. Along with the "taking time to activate the weapon systems on a Titan and bring them online". I think this would be a fair break for the "lost my titan, lost the game" and "
[quote who="User45701" reply="107" id="3124832"]I have two idea's i think would work. 1. Have titans cost 8 cap ship points. Increase cap ship points to 24. This means you still have your 16 cap ships and a titan or 24 caps ships. Simple to do the game can handle it as we have palyed a 4 v 4 lan game with i think it was 48 cap ships per player and the game ran fine so the engine can handle it. 2. Limit them to travel only without y
Anything that can get rid of the horror of LRF spam that has existed since as long as I've been playing, I'm for it. However, that being said, I'd prefer if we had a situation where every ship was useful, and we had these things that I like to call balanced fleets. I'm a big fan.
Long range frigates yet? It needed to be done ages ago. I want to start playing again, but the fact that the battles always hinged on who brought more LRF's to the table just soured me on the game. What is the point of having Capital Ships in the game if they don't actually do anything? There should be a large enough divide in power between the frigates and cruisers, and cruisers and capital ships that LRF's can't overwhelm a properly constructed fleet on their own. &n
Topic title says it all. I'm curious, because I'm just wondering how much money I'm going to have to shell out for expansions for this game, if there are any. Not that spending money on games is a bad thing. In fact, it's a much better use of money than many.
What's the chance we're getting one? And are we going to get multiplayer this time? My biggest problem with GalCiv 2 was that there was no multiplayer. My friend and I kept wanting to go head to head vs each other, but no dice. Can we at least get 2 player lan? Playing the ai is only so fun for so long. And it's not that onerous a burden, SMAC had almost all the features GalCiv2 has, over 10 years ago, and had PBEM, LAN, and internet multiplayer to boot.
Topic title says it all.
This might be the SMAC player in me, but I also prefer to get my economy rolling first over going hard on the military, because whatever inroads you make into econ in the early game will have a ripple effect later in the game, which will give you a much bigger military advantage in the middle and late game than you could have gotten with the same amount of resources in military units in the early stage. That does not necessarily mean that you neglect your military, but you merely go with the
My best friend and I play lan games quite often, and we both get frustrated because of the same thing, but for different reasons. The thing is, he doesn't expand quickly enough, and it gets him penned in, whether by me, or the AI, and it annoys him because he doesn't get a chance to expand, and it annoys me because he's slow off the mark and it's no fun beating him. I need help explaining the strategy of expanding to him, because I can't come up with a way to do it myself. He's just o
[quote who="Darvin3" reply="71" id="2526850"] My usual counter to long range frigate spamming is to have a gaurdian use shield projection to tank for a radiance battleship using animosity. the entire fleet targets my battleship while my flet pound theirs into space junk Then the opponent doesn't have enough long range frigates. If you didn't have a Progenitor restoring its shields, long range frigates should have minced your lone radiance before you could react.<br
In my limited multiplayer experience(ive played less than 10 games, and two of the were lan games against my best friend) id have to say that there are almost no similarities between sp and mp. it the same game but it requires two different play styles. I tend to be a passive player, but i find in mp i have to be far more agressive just to be competitive. also, toasters just don't have the adaptivity that humans have, and they definitly dont rush you in the first five minutes.(i had this
@origial poster. I have a technique that i use that takes advantage of to underused abilities, and that is often unexpected and very devestating. Gaurdians shield projetion soaking damage for a radiance using animosity. loads of fun. it counters just about everything, except a really large fleet with say, two or more capital ships. and i think this is the third or fourth thread ive suggested this tactic in, i think ill have to come up with a new one.
@original poster, I can't speak for TEC, because I play advent exclusively, but i do have a suggestion. Don't bother with build orders. just build a couple of scouts, then learn to feel your way through the game. Take the zen approach to gaming. do what feels right, and you'll win a lot more than you lose. at least i do.
My usual counter to long range frigate spamming is to have a gaurdian use shield projection to tank for a radiance battleship using animosity. the entire fleet targets my battleship while my flet pound theirs into space junk. Granted a sufficiently skilled player( and ive come across plenty, but not as many as ive expected) will have a counter handy(which is to say he will have some ships in reserve that aren't lrf's.). But still, i find myself annoyed by the one dimensional fleets in this ga
I use guardians as part of a combo with radiance battleships. I use shield projection to tank the damage from animosity while the rest of my fleet pounds on theirs with impunity. Then I follow up with cleansing briliance. Combined arms will trump a one dimensional army 9 times out of 10. ;)
I dont really follow the logic of this thread at all. I just feel my way through the game, note that i am including the start up phase in this as well. I just don't see the need to lock myself into a set play style, even though I always play advent.
THE UNITY WILL CONQUER ALL! No, seriously, the advent rock. Their cap ships are more effective, as well as more supportive for their lesser ships. The TEC are too plain and the Vasasi are too, well their just too not feeling right for me. And if you need to know why else I like them see the picture. :)
