I've even encountered a neutral colony with several vasari capital ships and a titan! There are lots of maps with neutral colonies, so I guess it's a bug after all and it'll be fixed when they fix the Artefact planet bug. (And if you didn't think about this yet, take note of it Stardock!).
The neutral colony with the Vasari fleet, Titan and Starbase is the Artefact Planet. Just saying.

What the hell? They have extractors and everything. That's definitely a bug, though I'm not sure of the cause, since I've never encountered this problem. You could try sending a copy of the savefile in to the developers for them to take a look.

Local militia don't have colonies you need to bomb, the planets are unclaimed. So just send a colony frigate or colony capital and bam, free planet with a free militia defense force. The one exception is the Artefact Planet, whose occupants need to be made immune to Truce Amongst Rogues.

Well first of all, those are two seperate abilities. "Truce Amongst Rogues" forms an alliance with all neutral factions, including the Pirates. There are already several complaints about this, and recently it has been moved up to a fourth (or fifth?) tier tech with several prequesites. Though making you neutral with the pirates isn't really the problem with this ability. "Pirate Mercenaries" makes the pirates send ships to you to fill up your fleet capacity, this abi
I also like both Zealots and Fundamentalists for the Advent, but I think that Fundamentalists would go better with the Loyalists because they are keeping to the Advent fundamentals, whereas the Zealots could go for both sub-factions, and so I think it is a little less awesome. I also hear the word "zealots" a lot more than the word "fundamentalists", so I think that it is a bit too overused to be a sub-faction name. Great suggestions th

Personally I find myself sticking with the old "race that lived exclusively in phase space until the Vasari accidently let them out" theory.

Hang on, which research? The one that allows you to give them missions, or Pirate Mercenaries? If the former, you have to open the pirate menu in the black market and click the offer mission button and go from there. If the latter, they send you ships every now and then if you have available fleet capacity.
I, for one, am against this idea. Already the races have a rock-paper-scissors feel to them, and the faction split gives paper the option to come down harder on rock or make it easier to fight scissors, based on your choice..
Not really sure I can agree with rock / paper / scissors. The only reace that has an inherent advantage over another is the Vasari over the Advent due to their phase missiles.

TEC Loyalists / Rebels Advent Fundamentalists / Apostates Vasari I have no idea. It depends on whether you want to focus on their old empire and go with something like Imperialist, or their current nomadic ways.
so you can ally with Pirates, right? What does that exactly mean? That they will periodically attack from the moment you research the tech only the enemy players?
They completely ignore you. You could have 50,000 bounty on you and they'd go for the guy with 100. They don't attack your ships, so you can coordinate joint strikes with them. Additionally, they send you whispers and alerts if they're under attack lik

Blair also mentions putting the clues in during this interview, I'm fairly sure they're not in yet;

Agreed with AtF, this will be worse: Tell me how I might serve! Tell me how I might serve! Tell me how I might serve! Tell me how I might serve! Tell me how I might serve! Tell me how I might serve! Tell me how I might serve! Someone mod Noble Sacrifice onto the Advent Corvette for me. Edit - On another note, the Vasari C
I was a bit disappointed with the voices for the Advent Titans. IMO multiple voices would sound like an entire Coalescence has descended upon a system to enforce its collective will - think Advent equivalent of "We are the Borg"
I like this. Have some karma.
