I tried a new game and developed cedar long bows - I still get the red circle indicating i cannot fire - but then it does fire and does damage if it hits, as normal. anyone else getting this?

Talking of maybe bugs in the new patch. Does anyone else get the -- can't fire symbol on Longbow Units at range (red circle with line through it over the bow icon) - then when you hit attack - they attack normally anyway. It maybe because I am using units created in a prior patch since the last one did update the archers, going to start a new game to test it.
ah - thanks -- for some reason the idea of guarding with a boat didn't enter my head :) having one of those days - thanks for the reply
Thanks for that - i'll give it a go :)
Is there a way to put a unit to sleep. like civ 4? i noticed that I keep being drawn back to units (the boat in the campaign was the first) before i can end the turn, I can manually hit end turn. it's not big deal - but thought I would ask if there was a way to take the unit out of the unit action que each turn until i "awake" it. Civ players will know what i mean.
Thanks for that I was stuck too. :)
Thanks - downoading now then i'm off to play :)
Here is a simple tip on overheating some people miss - if you computer case is on carpet you can lose all the air flow from under your case. put it on a board etc and it keeps the case much more cool. Other than that - have you checked your case fans to see if they are working? Also the graphics card fans - but that is much less likely. I'm running on the same model card with no problem. Vista though not xp.
Wanted to add my thanks - the game runs very smoothly and is a lot of fun.
Thanks for that - I trie the glow behind me yesterday - i'll try the sides next time one of my NPC's gets attacked on the way to a city.
On getting more Mana - have your Sovereign add points to his/her essence as that increases the characters mana pool. Intelligence for damage - Essence for mana. you can make other heroes into spell casters with a spell. I haven't tried that yet. :)
Yes i noticed that an AI built a "one per game" i think it was the mint - in 3 cities the other day. So I assume if you start them all at the same time it doesn't cancel the ones that are being built after the first one is built. as the glorious awuffleablehedgie says - until they fix the bug - just don't cheat.
I had this problem. it isn't marked. if you go back towards the pass into the northen desert area. then while north of the pass move to the right and just go square to square you will eventually find it. from memory it is almost all the way to the right as you come out of the pass. There should be a ruin marked on the map.
If it is I haven't worked out how. So i'd have to say no. but i'm not 100% on that
you must have added your reply while i was writting mine. Have a good one.
Hi – I assume that you mean the small shield on the bottom of the sovereigns character picture? If you click on the shield on the bottom of the character portrait - you should see all the items that can be used open in a window… a single click on the item should turn the area around the item green. When it is green it is equipped - click it again and it's not green then it is not equipped. If there are more than 1 item that could go into that character s
So Far i'm enjoying it. I also found the change in the way you build farms and mines a bit of a surprise. But once I worked it out I think it's actually better. Might be a few minor SPOILERS for the story below. I'm having some weird game play issues at the moment in the campaign. I have 5 towns, and the NPC towns haven't grown at all. I couldn't build pioneers so no new towns at first. after I had to build a town for the story I assumed that was
Hi I've played all the betas and mostly love the game. That said I, like everyone else, haven't played the final release version. It would be nice if those of us who have pre ordered could play the final release as soon as it is ready. But i understand that companies don't do that usually because of the potential for loss of sales if a few people out of thousands of pre-orders get on the forums and run the game down before the game is on sale for the general public. Pe
I didn't know that they would be forcing steam on us for CIV 5 = love CIV - still have the original (civ 1) in the box and manual somewhere :) - Magic too. I brought the disk of Call of Duty modern warfare 2 and that installed steam. I don't mind to any great extent but find it annoying to be treated like a thief when i payed good money for a game. I brought the disk rather than down load because so many down loads are like 3 installs ever - and
Hi - sounds very good on the subject of different difficulty levels having random bad data - would it be possible to create a kind of "secrete service" option in the game? so you research different levels of secret service or spy skills - with the higher level of the skills the information about other kingdoms and Empires gets more accurate... so less bad data from higher level spy skills. then to change the difficulty of the game at an AI level. yo
[quote who="taltamir" reply="187" id="2604074"]There seems to be some misconceptions about DRM here... mainly people are repeating the lies of its supporters... please don't do that. I wrote this about DRM a long time ago: DRM as a whole is not meant to stop piracy; no form of DRM has ever been effective in stopping piracy, nor has any of it ever been designed in a way that could be effective in stopping piracy. DRM is nothing but a trick to force customers to purchase the same pro
I still have the original disks and manual - I have an install on my c: drive and use dosbox to play it. it's been perfectly stable and a lot of fun. Let us all know if it has been patched or modded to run on newer systems though as that would be worthwhile edit to add note - I run a vista 32bit system
I agree with you - from a pencil pusher point of view it might make sense but it really makes no sense at all - i've written off Atari for other reasons than DRM but for copy protection reasons. I think companies need to understand that by making honest people's lives more difficult they lose customers. I buy almost every game I own from Impulse, Steam or Gamers Gate, I occasionally buy actual disks through cd wow as they are Asian English disks (but genuine not
I accept that when a person steals a game or other intellectual property there is no physical object being stolen. So why do i call it theft? because the law says it's theft. Why does the law call it theft then? Because something that someone owns is being taken and used without payment or permission given... why is that important? Why? Because without law - there is no society (I'll come back to that) -- but in terms of games - does it do any harm? </
At a purely game level - build a temple - please the people. Build the right temple, please your neighbors a little. if your neighbors build the wrong temple - you have an excuse to kill all the non believers in a neighboring kingdom. How can you tell the believers from the non believers? no idea? - kill them all and let the gods decide :) some buildings and skills would also be cool.
