http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahTehhLD5ec
This pretty well sums up what I like about this game, nice find.

First off, let me tell you that no one will be able to truly answer this for you. As you've seen on the forums, the experiences vary wildly. here's my OPINION based on having this game since launch day +1 (and starting my first game with the 0-day patch).
1. Is the game entertaining and fun?
Hells. Yeah. This game has kept me up way too late the last 2 nights. Will tonight too, I bet, since I'll be firing it up after pos
That's not what a fantasy game is about, that is not why I pre-ordered this game. I was promised heroes, I want heroes, not the same crap I could get in Civ 4.
Fair enough. That can be largely fixed with a mod right now, if you don't feel like waiting, where shop prices/weapon stats (I think I saw stats are tweakable, but i dunno) are tweaked to stack on the power. Or the infinate blin
I wasn't that player, but that happened to me. Resave and reload fixed thee issues. A moot point now, I guess. I haven't tried the last update, since I heard about the "saves disabled" bit from a dev in chat prior to it going live. Edit: "I wasn't that player" was meant in reference to the SD post about save/reload.
Why can't spells be an int-int calc, instead of int-def? def seems more like a physical charateristic. I wouldn't expect dex or armor to help much against mind power type things (magic), but it would make sense to me that magic would hurt stupid creatures more than it would other sharp (high int) wizards.
worked for me. my sov had all the stones. every old battlefireld i came across game me one, so I had about 7 by the time i took the quest at the inn. I just walked over to the blacksmith and he took 3-4 stones and game me some sword I never did use. :)
I beleive tehre's a later game speel ("teleport friends" or soemthing) that uses 15 mana and is for non-sovs. I have it but haven't bothered with it yet. I wish SD would remove the button to teleport for 5 mana on units who can't use it, I burned 15 mana thinking I misclicked something.
Agreed with Ichirou989 . Mod it in (ias much as you can) or request it as an option/expansion if you want more complex rules, I like it as it is now. As the OP said, for folks like us we enjoy it as is. I'm tired of people saying "make it like this game" or "game x has this awesome feature so you should put it i
... Is it the game to blame if the player insists on doing something dull and repetitive?
Dull and repetitive moves games. ever heard of Farmville? :P
Good news though... a Stardock rep has posted a couple times in this thread and it's become clear that part of the problem is that shards are *NOT* being factored in at all during tactical combat. He/she also hinted at a fairly major potential overhaul of how magic damage is dealt with.
This. Also, in the thread (titled "magic shards aren't working" or soemthing like that) the devs hinted to the damage calcu
beware that those techs will make the baddies that wander the lands extremly baddie.
none I can see. your city only has to be somewhat close to link, btw, it doesn't have to touch.
with your prev thread I could take it or leave it with most changes you mentioned, but this one I am totally on board with. There's gotta be a way to slow a steamrolling enemy. Good analysis OP.
it's by design, they found some bug or another that made games incompatible so they just minor updated to make old saves impossible to load. bummer, but you'll see the devs say it was on purpose on the forums, as they said in the chat room earlier too.
Not sure I'm a fan of hit rolls on spells. Spells consume MP which currently regenerates at 1 mp a turn, so the actual cost of a single damaging spell is very high in comparison to a simple attack by any constructed unit in the game. Spells need to be 'imbalanced' for them to be worth using, and missing with your MP investment of 2-10 turns to deal damage in comparison to the ability to summon up a new troop or teleport across the entire
Yes. Shards only seem to increase mana replenishment slightly. ... 2) They could be required for strategic spell-casting (the overpowered summoning for instance) ... 4) They could give access to new more powerful spells (at the same levels). ...
I'm currently researching a spell that creates a volcano (lvl 10 or 11 spell), and it has shards listed as requirements next to mana and the other stats.
first game in a while to keep me up till the wee hours of the morning multiple days in a row, and yet I don't hate it the next day. :D
someone should dig up that pic of Mr. T posted on the forums earlier, count how many rings/amulets he's wearing, and base the limits off of that. I think it's safe to assume he found the max (IRL) limit. :P
Gonna throw this out there because I just learned it tonight: mana regen is crap at first, but once you hit a lvl 5 Kingdom city (all I've played thus far), you can build a +2 mana regen building. Then every unit with mana regens at +3. If you can muster another lvl 5 city (I haven't, still mastering food prod), then you can presumably build another +2 mana tower (they're listed as 1/settlement, not 1/kingdom or 1/game). I've been having a ball with masses of archers, summ
champs are pretty tough. the one thing I haven't seen mentioned is the ongoing cost of soldiers + build price vs champions. seems over time that they are a better investment, doubly so if you imbue them. And all stats appear to go up during a lvl up, the only thing you are changing is the base multiplier when you add the +1. Tho I know most other games allow you to make gods, it makes more sense to me that if a human goes 1 on 1 vs a monster troll, he gets spattered
the way I see it, people who can play the game are addicted and playing, and people who can't play are complaining. :) It has some bugs e.g. shards not appearing to work in tactical combat and a lowdown that doesn't hit either proc or ram caps after playing several hours on a large map are almost all I've seen. I'm sure that with different setups there's some compatibility issues. I just recently gutted my system so I could play SC2, and I haven't had probs.
I noticed the shards not working, but since I hate autocombat I didn't know that they worked there. this and the need to restart the game every hour or two are my only real complaints right now. Good catch OP. :)
As best I can tell from my time last night, if a unit dies in combat it doesn't come back. There appears to be a unit count on the portrit as well. And I couldn't find a way to train a single unit and add it or the like.
