I suggest changing the light depending on the time of day. Not the time of day in game, but the time of the playing user. During the day when people are awake and it is bright outside, the game should appear brighter and light should be whiter. After sunset the in game lighting should change to use more warmer colors (like the soft warm light from an incandescent lamp). Dynamically changing the light will provid
2. Fixed the custom faction tech granting abilities so they work correctly regardless of the factions allegience. Yay! Can you make it so all gear works for everyone next? I know, demand, demand, lol. Quest gear, and rare gear, like the Ilyan's pressed iron armor, that kind of stuff. Pretty please?
Mmmm...Quest gear and rare gear. :) Do mean l
I have faith that FE will be amazing. I really do... I have faith in Stardock as a lot is riding on the line for them including their reputation. They'll make good. I have faith in the FE team. Derek will whip them into shape and his creativity will make for a drastically better product. I have faith that Jon will make EWOM/FE much more mod friendly. I have faith that Toby will continue to be the real power behind the throne. I have faith in the communi
I like number 3 the best. (I'm Canadian BTW) Number 2 would be alright if they toned down the yellow. However, for a post apocalyptic world, I think bright colors wouldn't be the best choice. Perhaps if there was a pre-apocalypse expansion pack. Nice to see that these small details that'll make the game great are being taken care of. :)
Totally agree. They need a quest log or something like that that you can check up on if you can't remember where to go or what to do.
Yeah I agree completely with Anglophile as well. I just hope that in Fallen Enchantress they ditch the lore straight jacket they put themselves into, and just adopt standard fantasy style races to give the factions some interesting gameplay elements to them. Also, a land "devastated by magic" will by its very nature be boring to look at, *unless* you do two things: 1) Show the devastation. Eg destroyed ci
Awww...I was hoping this was a thread about Fallen Enchantress' ramped up hostile environment. :P More savage Elementals reeking havok on your frontier towns, pillaging and destroying all in their wake. Fire elementals burning down farms! Water Elementals sinking fishing vessels! Earth Elementals collapsing mines! Muhhaaaa! [e digicons][/e] Anyway, these forums are cool and I agree with the assertion that Brad comes off as human rather then a cold, uncaring
Glsd to hear the problem has been found. It's doing these "little things" that'll make this an awesome game one day.
I still would prefer Galciv2-style random events and mega events instead of quests...
I'd like all three. Random events really spice things up. They worked really well in cIV and Fall from Heaven/Master of Mana, etc. Anyway, these quests are really, really good. I'd like to see them all get added somehow if possible. There certainly are some really talen
I like the fact that these forums aren't totally populated by fanbois who shout down critics of the game. As mentioned, too many yes men is a dangerous thing. That being said, people should aim to be civil and constructive in their criticisms on both sides.
Quoting Wintersong, reply 12Your.... wording about Elemental expansion packs is about to make some people explode (again). Just saying. Elemental: RPG. Now. Please? Who must I kill? Which country must I conquer? Knowing about it has been the best news I have had in the last weeks! (weeks in which the best thing has been to learn some Python 3.1.3 during breaks in the office so go figure) The Mod Layer sounds very interes
I'm having the same problems too. :(
Quoting RisingLegend, reply 14So basically what you're saying Derek is that there is a limited amount of features that can go into a game? How do you feel about games like Dwarf Fortress that just have so many features and make such a living world out of their design. I mean with anything I've ever played, it seems that complexity makes the game more real and immersive. Now granted, I understand how too much complexity and not good imple
I've never been happy with the way forests were treated in the Civ series. For example, in Civ I, not cutting down your forests led to much more pollution as forests were a good means of ramping up your production. :P In later versions cutting down all your forests was considered a good idea. I am hoping that forests will play an important role in Elemental somehow. At least much more so then they are now. Being described as a nuisance rig
Quoting Lord Xia, reply 48That's right, my avatar is that of an ancient Chinese hero, clearly Western society embraces people of all types. So you think you can out sarcasm me eh? Well of course you can, because it is just so easy, anyone can do it! As for the game quote that impressed me "Those who are willing to give up a little freedom for a little security, wind up with neither freedom, nor security"
Naming features and areas in the game would be very cool. I am a big fan of reading AARs and I think that would make them that much better. :)
Thanks for the update and for giving more information on game design. This is a very nice thing that Stardock is doing to make the gaming community as a whole better. By helping out aspiring game designers and just generally educating people on what happens in a game design process, we all benefit. Keep up the good work and of course don't fly to close to the sun. It tends to melt the wax. :P
Agreed. I admire the fact that they went off on a different path by making their own factions and monsters but since there is no place to read up on these new creatures in a monster manual type style or get any background on them at all is a bit underwhelming for me. Just to point out the obvious here. Brad wrote an entire novel of back story. While this is not the same as a monster manual, it should give a fairly decent amount of story
Trying to turn the whole world into a giant ice cube with the Illians. [e digicons][/e] Pretty impressed so far.
Last night we had a fair amount of snow, enough for me to call into work, so I busted out AoW:Shadow Magic to see if it holds up to to the infamous rose colored nostalgia glasses...and it does. It had such beautiful maps, city sieges were a different type of battle all together, and the magic spells are sweeping, the differnt races, neutral cities, recruiting camps, game changing things that made the world more than a pretty map. Glad to hear about rivers. They will definitely make the map look more natural interesting. Some scattered roads at the beginning that have been largely destroyed would be welcome as well. Also making terrain matter more and city placement would make the game more fun for me. Thanks for the update. :)
Thanks for all the info. Since I have crappy internet at the moment, the download is going agonizingly slow. :P It looks extremely promising though as I loved FFH2 and this seems to build on it.
Quoting Thormodr, reply 4 Oh and I definitely agree about Treants. I've always loved the green nature faction in any games I've played. I'd love to see a nature faction with Druids, Dryads, Treants, Unicorns etc. Lots of cool summons like Dire Boars, Faerie Dragons etc. like in AOW II:SM. Unfortunately the powers-that-be decided to ignore/avoid/eschew/whatever the common fantasy that we all know and share a
This is the only thing holding the game back for me at the moment. If you look at every other turn based game there is always something that is keeping you from actually beating the computer even when you are capable of winning at the time. And its always things like researching enough to get that Mega unit who takes a lot of dmg to take down and can do some cool moves. Like in AOW i almost never win a scenario until i have maxed just about everything in atl
